Nervous Donkey receives her first professional trim at Longhopes.

Tyra arrived to Longhopes just a week ago. She was surrendered by previous owners due to financial distress. Tyra is very sweet but is not used to having people handle her hooves as she reacted nervously when we tried working with her. Upon her arrival to Longhopes, we did an unofficial trim just to provide her some comfort but she was in desperate need of a professional hoof trim. Joining us for this incredible video is Davide Cazzola from Splendor Hooves.
You can observe his love and patience with Tyra throughout the entire trim. It took our team 95 minutes to get Tyra comfortable and trimmed. Davide Cazzola was extremely gentle and allowed Tyra to express herself. He listened to her and watched her body language to ensure he was not pushing the limits of her comfort. At the same time he provided excellent service that will allow Tyra's hooves to grow better and healthier. Tyra was able to walk much better after her trim and we are hopeful that she is in the right direction to a full recovery and rehabilitation. We continue to work with Tyra every single day and she continues to surprise us with her intelligence and sweet charachter. She is smart, gentle, and an amazing donkey. We feel so fortunate to have her and we are so incredibly grateful for Davide Cazzola from Splendor Hooves that took the time to help Tyra through her first trim.
Getting a hoof trim can be very scary for donkeys that aren't used to them. The first trim has to always be a good and positive experience. That is what Davide Cazzola and Longhopes worked for and succeeded in doing. Tyra is now trusting of humans and allows us to continue picking up her hooves.
A total success! Thank you for watching!

what an exciting video, so much patience and respect on both sides. this gentleman is showing excellence, isn't he? Tyra must be so much better already, and this is just the start. without sycophancy, it is people like you who comfort me about the human species. Thank you. (I hope the translation from French to English is not incorrect.)

This was the hardest part of having donkeys for me until I learned how to do it myself. At the beginning we also had professionals trim their hooves, but on two occasions they injured my Jennies and they still have a trust problem and don't like to get me near they hooves. Now I only need 3 things for trimming. Sharp fruit tree scissors, a bucket of oat, and patience. If donkey does not want to do it anymore, I stop and try later, or another day. The most important thing for me is making a good experience for the donkey. I go around their hooves as I do around my finger nails. A lot of small cuts and never too deep. If the problem is bigger, I never go ahead and try to solve it at once. I cut until I reach the pink part and then let it be for another week or two until it becomes harder /less sensitive. Then we proceed. Also, this type of work is best done after the rain when the hooves are softer. Just keep in mind and compare it to your finger nails, and your donkey will be fine. Never too deep.

In my opinion, the hoofs are in good condition, and no need to trim for at least 5 to 6 more months.
