The "crunchy" sound is a ratchet, and it usually stops the bolt action from sliding back when you prime the blaster, quite useful for kids if they only pull it part way.

The Eaglepoint is good, but the X Shot Berserko does the same things and more for better value, and you can throw an Aeon Pro spring in it and hit 150 FPS no problem. Twice the Eaglepoint. The Stryker works great with an adjustable spring spacer and a 14.5" Worker Harrier barrel swapped in, just bore out the muzzle cap to 21/32". If an N Strike stock or barrel is wobbly and rattling around, put a wrap of electrical tape on the lug, it'll fit tight. The ratcheting sound is freaking nails on chalkboard. Fortunately it can be removed.

Put a plastic scar on that stryker instead of that useless fake silencer and you will never miss on that distance, regardless if you use long or short darts.
