Wonderful to see these images of Kathmandu as it looked when I first arrived in December of '77, as a belated hippie on the trail from Amsterdam.

Got it recommended by KZread, really happy that it was, the Nepal back then was like an heaven for many people to live in peace ❤ , but during current times the opposing coutries who try to down Nepal within without others knowing secretly and the political instability has caused it to ruin 😢

In 1978 I was a kid living in Kathmandu. My brothers and I would rent bicycles and ride from Chettrapati to Swayambhunath temple. The road traversed paddy field and cluster of trees like a mini jungle. On the way was the Bishnumati river where we would catch various colorful fishes with our fishing net made from a mosquito net. The last time I visited Kathmandu was 1994. I don't have any inkling to visit the modern day city.

THIS VIDEO IS GEM 💎❤ THANK YOU 🙏 KATHMANDU AFTER 50 YEARS 👇 Not a single piece of paddy field left in Kathmandu area now 😢 , full of cars, bikes and buses , city size is getting massive it's becoming a crowded concrete jungle, super messy , but roads are bigger now, very few streets vendors are seen on the street, 1950s, 60s, 70s era Tibetan refugees and migrants are richer than Nepali now and many of them becomes a Nepali citizen too. festivals are still going wild and crazy, not a single cow, buffalo or ox on the street, but few stray dogs are around tho, foreign tourist came to visit Nepal all year around, so many international chains luxurious hotels are opened including thousand of super nice cafés, bars and clubs, infrastructures are improving rapidly, living standard of Nepali people are now pretty higher and educated too. 38% population of Nepali people are now living and working abroad, for example there are more than 5000 Nepalese restaurant in Japan alone owned by Nepali .Famous Trekking routes could be Jeopardy because of highways and rural roads has been connected, ABC circuit trek route is in danger because of motorable roads are connected through the whole circuit routes . Pollution level is very higher in the city ,can't see any Himalaya from Kathmandu

@@Lyaaaamlyaaaam in the late 50s, 60s following the 1959 Tibetan uprising and exile of Dalai lama , over 27,000 Tibetans migrated to Nepal. Nepal is home to over 30,000 refugees officially recognized by the United nation in the 1990. Late King Mahendra allowed Tibetans to settle in the various parts of the country and sets up 6 different huge refugees camp , 3 in Pokhara, 2 in Kathmandu valley which is still there plus some parts of the rural mountain villages. in the 70s and the 80s so many Tibetans refugees were seen in streets of Kathmandu and Pokhara selling organic goods, jewelleries, medicines etc.

yes it is! but the problem is not those outsider, the problem was incompetent government that they were compelled to come to valley for better education, better civil and legal issues, better health services. if there was decentralized government it would still be heaven here in ktm valley. and also the capital city of nepal should be somewhere in Terai regions of nepal and not just one but should have been 3 /5 capitals coz our country geography is not round, square for central point. its longitudinal and for this at least 3 capitals in terai regions would have been excellent. one in far west terai, one far east terai and one in middle. that would have also protected our lands from neighbour invasions and strict border regulation would have been great too so criminals wont flee india and come to nepal like a peice of cake as they have been doing. kathmandu should have left alone as hippiee paradise and city of gods! it would have been a bliss. but now here we are who stays in ruined country not just ktm but everything is ruined coz of lack of smart people on govt sector who have no understanding of geopolitical situations, problem solving tactics. only now 1 i see is Balen Shah!
