Yes, you make a very good point. Hopefully, if they do get to the advance stages of the construction, they figure out how to make it sustainable. It will also contribute to the economy.

nothing wrong with dreaming big. and the Saudis definitely have the money to do it. but come on, some of these designs are shit bat nuts.

“Major Human Rights Concerns” jumps out at me… Who is going to actually Live in The Line? How is the prince going to find 7 million people who want to live there…? Would that be voluntary, or would Saudi Arabia’s dictatorship force people to live there? My guess would be: More than likely, with a more than 80% chance. Why?? The prince will do Absolutely Everything in his power, and that includes quite a Lot, to prevent The Line from becoming the world’s Most Expensive mistake in city design……

All valid points. The line itself will have enough space to accommodate 9 million residents. I imagine that some type of incentive will be given to prospective residents. One of my main concerns is where all the workers will live. The line will have to include a “not so nice” area where all the workers would live.

@@ifyouwonder considering Saudi Arabia has a population of 36 million (in 2021), a Quarter of the population, that’s One in Every 4 Saudis, will live in The Line. Unless that happens by brutal force, or as you call it, “incentives”, I really can’t see that happening voluntarily…

This architect dream of designing an entire city is just a dangerous one. This idea of a city in a line is stupid as its core. There are many good reasons why since the beginning of civilization we have been building cities in round shape. The cost of building and maintaining such a monstrosity will make it unsustainable from the start, people will not move to it and it will fail, we will just visit the ruins of it as a Babel tower whose pretentious goal were doomed to failure from the start.

@@ifyouwonderI think that permaculturing the entire peninsula would have far more reaching economic benefits in the long and short term and would benefit the nomadic people most and would not have the risk of being a money pit.

Soooo, only the rich & elite can live here(?) I suppose if enough humans & animals aren't on the earth, the carbon production won't be an issue(??)

Given that we are already using way more resources than the earth can sustainably supply us with, these projects are just so incredibly inappropriate. I feel sick watching this, it should just stay a nice 3D rendering and the resources be spent on things we need, not WINTER SPORTS IN THE DESERT...
