A lesson on ethics on applying the same principles fairly to all - “for anybody who changes their principles depending on whom he is dealing, that is not a man who can lead a nation” - Nelson Mandela, 1990.
This was Mandela’s first visit to the US after release from 27 years in prison part of a longer interview discussing various topics including the Israel/Palestine conflict that this quote specifically refers to. He noted “one of the mistakes that political analysts make, is to think that their enemies should be our enemies”.
Mandela’s words sum up the hypocrisy and double-standards we still see right now from western powers dealing with Israel vs. any other nation, and the arrogant assumption that all are with Israel no matter the legality of action - including all people of the Jewish faith - clearly not correct with multiple Jewish pro-Palestine organisations #notinmyname.
