Nelson Mandela & Fidel Castro: A Video You Won't See on the Evening News

www.democracynow.org - In 1991, Nelson Mandela traveled to Cuba to meet with then president Fidel Castro on one of his first international trips after being freed from prison. Mandela called the Cuban Revolution, "a source of inspiration to all freedom-loving people" and thanked Cuba for supporting the African National Congress at a time when it was banned in South Africa and condemned by the United States. "Who trained our people, who gave us resources, who helped so many of our soldiers, our doctors?" Mandela said to Castro. "You have not come to our country -- when are you coming?"
Earlier today, Cuban President Raúl Castro spoke at the Mandela memorial in South Africa. Watch part of his speech at www.democracynow.org/2013/12/1...

His highness Mr. Fidel Castro calls South Africa his homeland for a good and valid reason, remember that Cubans are made out of Africans who were enslaved by the Spanish, Spanish and indigenous peoples. So, he has the right to claim Africa as a home land for him because the likelihood of his grandfather or grandmother being from Africa is extremely high, which is why the fight against apartheid was very person for his highness Mr Fidel Castro.

Cuba, an African odyssey. probably the only documentary out there where the hole Cuban participation in Africa is detailed, from Che in the Congo in 1965 until the battle of cuito cuanavale and the liberation of Namibia in 1990. The evidence is irrefutable, because of the testimony of the major players from the Cuban, US, Angola factions and South Africans apartheid politicians and soldiers.

Nothing has changed about this country and the Western world. The US is only showing interest in Africa now because Russia and China is way ahead in taking resources. (although all of the world needs to get the f*** out). Also, because many Africa countries refuse to condemn Russia or China - no way when Russia or China is the source of many funds coming into the country.

Those who are the leaders of South Africa today should learn from what our elder Madiba portrayed in this video with the honourable Fidel Castro. It's a great shame if they do not. Cuba is a socialist country that fought against the colonialist/imperialist America successfully and helped other suffering countries including South Africa to do the same. The irony is our elder is gone and the question is who of our present leaders is capable of learning and doing this for our new so-called democratic South Africa, when whites are still enjoying the legacy of their ancestors who stole our lands and resources, and our people are still suffering more than the post-colonial or apartheid era. the new generation of the ANC is corrupt and had long forgotten about the suffering of the black people of South Africa; what a shame...where is your conscience you so-called leaders of the new South Africa...what do you think Cuba thinks of you at the absence of their dear friend, one the great sons of the black South Africa? The colours of the rainbow must all be balanced, not favouring those who were the instruments of privilege for the few. Aluta Continua!!!

Abdi Ismail you guys are crazy. There is no medication, basic medical equipment. No bandages. Cuba is a third world country at best. People have no electric or running water. How can doctors learn when there is no medical equipment. Cancer treatment is 20 years behind the rest of the world. Communism sucks

It is a historical fact that no country gave greater support to South Africa's struggle against Apartheid than Cuba. And it doesn't end just in South Africa. For decades, Cuba sent its doctors to help Angola and other African countries. It has been said by multiple African leaders than Cuba was the first white country to send its military overseas to fight to liberate black Africans. Cuba will never be forgotten by the African continent.

This is a part of history. It was a beautiful thing that Castro helped South Africa and allowed them in the medical field....Africans were and are a huge part of Cuba. They were brought to Cuba as slaves and they influenced the music, food, etc....So they are tied in a beautiful way....
