Recorded at Broken Arrow Ranch on 11/29/1975, "Like a Hurricane" showcases the raw talent of Neil Young on guitar and vocals, Frank Sampedro's unique touch on the Stringman, Billy Talbot's driving bass, and Ralph Molina's thunderous drums. I find it interesting how many people can clearly remember what They were doing when they heard a specific Neil Young song. Whether it is this one , Cinnamon Girl, Powderfinger, etc. The song was so immediately impactful that the moment was seared into memory. I have a hard time thinking of another artist that does this to people so consistently. Love his style of songwriting. The lyrics are the gem, the guitar playing, for all of its dirt and distortion, is the polish that provides the clarity.

Not Neil. Metaphorically he turned into Dr Jekyll working high in castle tower on a craggy outcrop. Feverishly striving against the lightening, thunder and strafing rain to produce that twisted prototype grunge that kept us crowd entranced. I'm sure no-one felt the rain. One of Uncle Neil's BEST. Reminds me of an illogical ridiculous fling I had with a slightly older woman after I had my near-death motorcycle accident in 1990 here in New Zealand aged 26. Ultimately I lost my entire left leg as high up as my hip and pelvis, a massive traumatic amputation that I was v fortunate to survive. Met this woman and it was insane from the start. One of my most twisted relationships...it reflected the state I was in...confused...and I remember hearing Like A Hurricane as she spun it on her turntable...it was a perfect description of our so-called 'relationship'...we were so not. The only important thing I learned from this person is the poison apple on the tree in the garden of eden is not fiction...one day we, us, you, like me will wake up...to the truth. Thank you Neil Young & Crazy Horse for showing me the way to the Light.

Lyrics: Once I thought I saw you in a crowded hazy bar Dancing on the light from star to star Far across the moonbeam I know that's who you are I saw your brown eyes turning once to fire You are like a hurricane There's calm in your eye And I'm gettin' blown away To somewhere safer where the feeling stays I want to love you but I'm getting blown away I am just a dreamer but you are just a dream And you could have been anyone to me Before that moment you touched my lips That perfect feeling when time just slips Away between us on our foggy trip You are like a hurricane There's calm in your eye And I'm gettin' blown away To somewhere safer where the feeling stays I want to love you but I'm getting blown away Blown away You are just a dreamer and I am just a dream You could have been anyone to me Before that moment you touched my lips That perfect feeling when time just slips Away between us on our foggy trip You are like a hurricane There's calm in your eye And I'm gettin' blown away To somewhere safer where the feeling stays I want to love you but I'm getting blown away

Still love this track even though it takes me back to when I was 16 and I missed out of a relationship with a woman I worked with at the time

This song and Too Far Gone hit really different when they're back to back on Chrome Dreams. As a pair, they're devastating.

A classic worthy of same recognition as the best time tested musicians, I m talking Beethoven, Mozart. It's the lyrics, the harmonies, the artist,,,doesn't get much better than this.

I thought I saw you in a crowded hazy bar Dancing on the light from star to star Far across the moonbeam I know that's who you are I saw your brown eyes turning once to fire You are like a hurricane There's calm in your eye And I'm gettin' blown away To somewhere safer where the feeling stays I want to love you but I'm getting blown away I am just a dreamer but you are just a dream And you could have been anyone to me Before that moment you touched my lips That perfect feeling when time just slips Away between us on our foggy trip You are like a hurricane There's calm in your eye And I'm gettin' blown away To somewhere safer where the feeling stays I want to love you but I'm getting blown away Blown away You are just a dreamer and I am just a dream You could have been anyone to me Before that moment you touched my lips That perfect feeling when time just slips Away between us on our foggy trip You are like a hurricane There's calm in your eye And I'm gettin' blown away To somewhere safer where the feeling stays I want to love you but I'm getting blown away

Happened to stumble on this song and it made me think of Second Harvest Food Bank in Silicon Valley. I volunteer there a couple of days a week driving deliveries who are unable to get down to the food bank. Second Harvest is in a really dire strait right now... I pulled this from their website: "Each year, Californians send nearly six million tons of food waste to the landfill, while 1 in 4 people in Silicon Valley is at risk of food insecurity. Donating food redirects edible food that would otherwise go to waste to the thousands of local families in our neighborhoods who don’t have enough to eat." Things apparently got really bad during Covid, like twice the number of needy families, and the numbers of needy families never dropped. There's staggering number of hungry people. Perhaps we could start a viral campaign? Would Neil Young fans be willing to pass this the message where Neil Young's Harvest benefits Second Harvest. Also, maybe send it to your Jewish friends: Second Harvest is recognizing Yom Kippur (September 24 - 25). I know I'm just barely under the wire, but perhaps we can make this go viral?
