The 97 lions would never have won the series without these 2!

I agree, but the real class of that tour was that the Lions would have been weaker without any two of the test team. Who would have thought Paul Wallace and Tom Smith would make the team and when that 1st scrum penalty went against us, I remember thinking the Boks had pulled a fast one on us, but how wrong was I. People talk of the class of Martin Johnson and they are right but Jeremy Davidson was a cut above. Scott Gibbs will always be a favourite of mine, but I would have loved to have seen Allan Bateman have a go in those 1st two matches alongside him. Alan Tait was top quality and showed in the following 5 nations that he could have slotted in at centre and of course Will Greenwood was injured so some brilliant players.... but the Ginger Monster must have given the Boks nightmares for months.... MAGIC

Neil Jenkins never quite got the recognition he deserved for the series win in 97. Nerves of steel.

Springboks dominated the lions in 97 except the had no kickers… lions of 09 and 21 gave the boks a bigger challenge

They dominated so much that they lost the series.
