Sums up the interview really. Lets work Feminism and Brexit into this.
I started a job in 2014 that involved an hour long commute to and fro. It’s 2022 now and I’m running out of Gaiman audiobooks that I haven’t listened to. I’m not exactly sure why I dig his books so much but his voice is endearing. He is the benevolent narrator, even when things get bad.
Everything Neil Gaiman writes turns to pure gold...

Neil Gaiman is one of my all-time favs, along with Ursula K. Le Guin, Diana Wyne Jones, Harlan Ellison or Terry Pratchett... Has such a bright Mind... Such a beautiful touch of Magic... mixed with a little bit of darkness... American Gods, Sandman (omg), Neverhere... Love all he does. And I highly recommend his comics.

it would be nice to have an interviewer who at least has some basic understanding of the gods.
Peak selfishness, as he said. This is a society that looks at masses of penniless, powerless people fleeing war and famine and gets angry about the prospect that their misery is going to cost us. That's textbook malignant narcissism.

I'm interested in the oral/troubadour background of, say, The Matter of Britain (King Arthur) etc. that lasted. TH White's Once and Future King to me is a good comparison. The idea of the Trickster is perennial. Watch Tom Petty's narrator in Don't Come around here no more. I really dislike closed minds. There seems to be too many out there and I understand why Stephen Fry never reads comments.

Its a fad, people who worship politics, politicians and political movements are just moving with the times. In the 30's it was 'cool' to be a fascist or a communist. In the 60's and 70's there were left wing militant groups popping up all over the place and it was cool to follow them. Now its cool to be an extremist again, a kind of mix of anarcho-fascism and extreme capitalism. The very moment they seized power from the 'liberal elite' and parroted endless tirades about reclaiming 'freedom of speech' they talked about 'shutting down this', and 'shutting down that'. People will get bored of them eventually, either that or it will all climax into something horrific as it did with WW2. Ever since Kings & Queens started losing control the pendulum of politics has swung between a calm, slow burn of middle of the road policy and a violent, angry one. Left and right are just words, neither of which is fit to govern the human race.

However, I didn't need any of these sources to come to this conclusion. I determined that he was a racists based on his numerous generalising speeches, verbal and twitter attacks on entire populaces and countries and based on his past actions before he was even considering becoming a candidate for the Republican party. I did that by thinking for myself, without being influenced by wealthy elitists (of which Trump himself is one) or KZread nutjob tinfoil hat conspiracy theorists like Alex Jones.

Also, in the UK where I'm from, where presumably Neil Gaiman is speaking in this interview, people are allowed to express their views without being told to shut up by people whining on the internet. We have something in the UK called freedom of speech, you can say what you like provided it isn't a personal threat and it won't land you in prison (though most of the time it won't land you in jail anyway even if you did threaten someone). I was told that this was once the case in the US prior to Trump, you didn't have to adjust your beliefs to one extremist right wing view, you could say what you wanted and criticise who you want. It was a feature of the US back when it was a democracy instead of a fallacy, you can go back as far as 2016 to know this was once true.
@lloroshastar6347

I'm fed up of seeing racism first hand on a regular basis all because there is this push to the far right everywhere, I hate that it has spread to the UK and now I see productive citizens who have done nothing but contribute all their lives suddenly being targeted because their are bad people who share the same religion or background as them. I'm also yet to see how things like multiculturalism effects me and my life, despite the fact that I've been working class all my life and I'm told immigrants are taking my jobs. I'm fed up of being lied to by the biased right wing media and I'm fed up of conspiracy theorists online telling one absurd lie after another to divide people. I don't want people to be divided, I can't say without a doubt that liberal politicians weren't partly responsible for the election of Trump, Obama was far from perfect, by and large he continued with foreign policies which certainly contributed to the rise of the Islamic State, he took a different direction from Bush who also contributed to the problem but neither of them came up with a more permanent solution to the issue of fundamentalism. In a way, I think the Islamic State themselves have done the worst damage to extremist Islamic views because they attack other Muslims, even those that largely support them. They bombed a sufi Mosque in Egypt recently which has really helped unite the Islamic world against them. However, I think this problem is going to persist for a while sadly, and I fail to see how blaming the entire muslim community is going to help defeat it. But now there is another problem, we spent decades dealing with the problem of Communist extremists during the Cold War, now we have militant right wingers on the rise. What we need is a means to come together, people like you and I who disagree on so many issues need to find common ground, I'm tired of this divide, but seeing Trump's latest twitter rant on a daily basis isn't helping, it's pushing people apart. I understand that people felt betrayed by the system, that they think Trump is a response to that, but I've yet to see any evidence that doesn't suggest he isn't just part of the problem. If people are going to get along again, if the divide can be broken down, Trump has to go.

Propaganda works both ways, there are delusions everywhere. Accusing all media as 'Orwellian propaganda' is a delusion in of itself. You haven't become disillusioned my friend, you have simply swapped one delusional narrative with another. Everyone has an agenda, and Trump's is most certainly a corporate globalist one, just his own version of it. Everyone's agenda is different. The real enemy is ideology, it always has been, it brings benefits but it also brings division and a deep hatred of anything that diverts from ideology. We can all play the blame game but ultimately the Universe doesn't care what we think, when you come to realise that all ideologies are human made you see how fickle they really are, because humans are fickle, imperfect. We try to make sense of the vast unknowable and then when we decide what is right we start punishing those who don't follow our version of that so called philosophy. There is no such thing as a utopia and there never will be, Trump's policies will ultimately fail, he will be remembered for what he is, yet another opportunist trying to get his name into the history books. The day I stopped taking so much credence into people, their beliefs and their methods was the day I was enlightened. We are all in this shitstorm together and we have to look out for one another where we can, those who wish to divide us further and lay blame on an entire group of people because of the actions of a smaller group are not helping seal that divide. Do yourself a favour, drop all narratives, don't assume that one persons agenda is greater than another, the truth is that these things you look at and view as your 'great enemy' don't really amount to much. You can look at any ideology, libertarian, capitalist, communist, religious, fascist, socialist etc. and if you look beyond the surface you come to realise that they are all the victims of mob mentality, a desperate search for human beings trying to make their lives better, make themselves richer, and if they can hurt other people to do it they will do. That is what Trump represents, basic natural human exploitation, at its very core his beliefs are not much different to any other extremist group, they all want better lives at the suffering and expense of someone else.
