So very beautiful.....In working through enormous grief over the tragic loss of my youngest son, I listened to "Don't Dream It's Over" thousands of times...Sad, pensive, comforting, torturous, memorial...every emotion hits hard yet beckons and softly tugs at the heartstrings to listen just one more time...the endless looping of grief.

I had the very same thought just before reading your comment. He's still creating magic 45 years later. It's healing to see that some distinct happinesses from my youth are still here & in Mr Finn's case, flourishing. His genius is humbling and.I'm very, very grateful to him.
To those giving this a thumbs down, give your heads a wobble.
Dear Neil We played this beautiful version of your masterpiece at my late mother's funeral this week. She used to sing it and the words really did resonate with her journey. Thanks for sharing your musical gifts with us. I will always remember her fondly when I hear this song. Thankyou.

Neil Finn is among the greatest singer/songwriters of his era. He belongs with McCartney/ Lennon, Paul Simon and the other greats of rock/pop. He is profoundly underrated and has written some of the most beautiful contemporary music of the last 30 years. Thank you Neil. Thank you.

It is 2024 and still super like this song. 80's indeed have great songs and singers!
Such a sad/sweet song. Certain pieces of music create a 'lump in your throat' nostalgia that inexplicable - kind of a longing for something you've had and lost, or something you've never had at all. Does anyone else identify with what I'm saying?

A sort of collective, loving memory ~ shared into hours ahead, though gently glancing back with longing, tearful grace. With high notes reaching for something hopeful, yet lost..
Even years later, he's still got that beautiful voice🤘
What a beautiful song that's lasted for decades! Thanks Neil!
Just ran across this and wow does this song bring back memories! The vocal and the strings sound better than when it first hit the airwaves in the U.S.
This is one of my favorite pop songs from decades ago, and to realize it is actually a beautiful piece of music.
That may be more beautiful than the original.
Two hemispheres meet when many thought the world is flat. I don't think so anymore.
Best version of his own song I've ever heard... Absolutely stunning...will done Sir..
Decades after I first heard this, I still admire the sheer poetry of the lyrics like it's really a poem in its first incarnation before meeting the notes to set it into a song. The mood is also a blend of melancholy and catharsis. It's a poem, not a pop song. That it hit as high as it did in the charts is a testament to the fact that there is still room for songs that do not have to be boxed in into the usual pop mold. This song lives on in my iPod and iPhone playlists. Hats off to Neil for this pure poetry of a song
Awwww. My youth in this beautiful song. Thank you!
As our world changes this song takes a deeper meaning to my life and my conscious. Thank you guys Love toy and your music ❤

But I have to say that I was literally 'stunned' by the beauty of this version of this song by Neil Finn , ' Don't Dream It's Over Now' . His voice and performance is angelic if there ever was such a thing. Neil Finn is an amazing talent that; hopefully, we can hold on to. So many great artists are leaving us way too soon (recently). Yes, we surely do miss Paul esp w/Crowded House too, esp his singing, sound & his beautiful smile :-), and i think he's still with them #neverforgotten. But its only right that folks know Paul's depression did not take swing until early 2002, after a relationship he had long term generated much heartache & his mom passed away in 2003 #FACTS. Paul played many times with neil & nick afterwards & they were all still very close until his passing.. Paul was not a trouble soul, but quite the opposite. He was a ray of light that many people love tremendously.. Paul was pure life & bundle of beautiful joy & was the foundation of Crowded House & Still Loved.. He was in the end at his passing, just sad & heartbroken as any person would be if they had relationship issues & then lost a parent #overload of hurt #FACTS.. It bothers me when people think Paul was depressed during his times with Crowded House from 1984-1996, he love Crowded House with all his heart #truefact. Being sad at times & depressed is two different things. He was not depressed, he was just as normal as any person with a bundle of joy, who was sad a times, because he was experiencing & had frustrations of career demands on him as any person would & has had, with no immediate support from your surrounding to aid you, you'd be upset too. He was in no way depressed, but in turn just tugging with his heart alot & the love he had for the ones he love wholeheartedly more than himself during that time.. His depression did not come about somewhat until 2002 when his mom became ill & his issue with love just took a toll #FACTS.. Paul was as beautiful a person as they come, not much trouble about him except he truly love those he love from his heart with all his might! Great & beautiful soul of a person.. He is loved always & always will be!! Couldn't find a better person in a crowd of 20 right now, that's just how awesome he was!! :-)) So glad you loved him too, thank you for your beautiful heart & words & love for him.. Just wanted to clarify a few facts. Stay beautiful you beautiful person... :-))
Every time i hear this i think of my late parents my late brother and my two sisters 🎶❤️😓

I lived in Wellington in 1987 for a year (I worked on the Air New Zealand Airport Terminal Expansion Project) and this is also when I discovered Neil & Crowded House. I'm back in California now, but every-time I hear them on the radio triggers fond memories. I was also introduced to an aussie band "Hunters & Collectors" which I personally liked even better than Midnight Oil. I must be getting old as it amazes be "the crap" that's playede on the radio here in America these days.
I saw Crowded House in 1987 in Massachusetts, at the Cape Cod Melody Tent. A Great venue for concerts. A friend invited me. I'd never even heard of them. But I've been listening to them ever since. All there music was good but this song stood out. Neil Finn hasn't lost a thing. He still sound's fantastic.
I believe Neil only sings where he wants or needs to. Good man.
Lovely ! In the UK 🇬🇧, the greatest hits album was marketed with the tag line, you probably know more Crowded House songs than you realise. The first time I put it on in the car, my wife sang the first three songs , almost word perfectly, without knowing the bands name!
Mr. Finn...I think you absolutely nailed this performance for the hometown crowd. Bravo, Bravo!!!
