Neil Diamond wrote and sang great songs and music. But Jonathan Livingstone Seagull's songs are, for me his master piece.

For me, both Dear Father and Be are inspired, sacred even. They speak of the soul's experience, the profundity multi-dimensional expanse and miraculous texture of the human experience, love, desire, learning, feeling, joy, sadness, pleasure, pain and sorrow and loss. "While we may" acknowledges that our time here is finite. He uses the words "may" and "if" in Be, with the subtle knowing that life's experiences are different for each, AND we share "universal" commonalities as mortal beings. All this regularly touches me when I hear these masterpieces and my soul swells and cries in some sort of tender empathy for myself and the world; for any and all who might be similarly moved and understand and have compassion for others. And Neil Diamond does it with a brevity I don't have, but with a profound and resonant voice that reaches deeply and touches my SOUL.💞

I love this song. It talks about a believer's journey and being humbled by the splendor of God as he waits upon Him. Very moving.

My father gave me this book to read when I was about 9 years old. At the time, I just thought it was a cute book about a "talking" seagull. I've since re-read it about 100 times and I get something different from it every time. The author, Richard Bach, was a pilot....and several years after my dad passed away, I studied and flew to become a pilot myself! I walked myself down the aisle to my own wedding to this song, in honour of my dad. Ironically, my husband dumped me for another lady pilot. Stiff shit. This song means the world to me. Thanks for sharing!!

My father also gave me this book to read at about same age...I’ve re-read also...and have passed it on to my children and grandchildren🙏 such a beautiful parable...so much meaning behind the story...my father passed a year ago in October, 2018...this is a beautiful tribute to remind us...that we are capable of anything we wish to be, do, or have...If we “Believe it” then...So It Is! Thank you for this...warmed me like a hug from my Dad...from the inside out! 🙏 May Joy, Love and Peace be yours! 🌟💞☮️

Your story is so touching, my father made me listen to this song and a will never forget that moment, i share your feelings.

The movie "Johnathan Livingston Seagull" is a film of rare beauty, felt by people with special culture qualities; to this is added the soundtrack of the movie that is a "sonorous jewel" made by one of the most "big voices" in the world ... NEIL DIAMOND ... after listening to the gorgeous pieces of fim you have to stay for a while hours alone living the ecstasy you feel .... I do not have superlatives to congratulate this movie with his dream music ...

After work at 4am you seat at the back of the ship, crossing the ocean and listen to the music of Neil Diamond on a Cassette Recorder and watch the sunrise it touch you deep and feel you're just a small piece on this wonderful planet earth. Nowaday a lot of people have forgotten our creator of this planet. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece of music

It is a book and a song that has had deep meaning to many persons...the words of the song repeatly come...at the oddest of moments...to this day. Read early in my youth...it only made complete sense...after l experienced a flight from Paris to Shanghai. 'We'...all...matter.

It's my pleasure. This song is one of those compositions and performances that is inspirational. To forge the genius of Jonathan Livingstone and Neil Diamond together after the book was released was something of a unique blessing. Both are perfectly suited. Jonathan would have approved. I do not know why these pieces are not greater known, or talked about, they are less commercial but by far his best, and some of the the most profound pieces of music ever written. Let's just call us the lucky ones.

This song like a lot of Neil's songs are so beautiful!!! It makes me cry because it makes me think of my dad and I's relationship. I wish he was more in my life. He's not a bad person he just made stupid decisions. I don't even know if my dad is alive or not :((((. I last heard from him in 2014.
