Interstellar is my favorite movie, I’ve seen it hundreds of times but one scene that always makes me emotional is when Murph asks her Father if her left her there to die because I know every child’s worst fear is to be abandoned by their parents, it doesn’t matter how old they are.

As a science teacher myself, somehow this movie slipped under my radar, and I never saw it until about a year ago. My mother had recorded it, and insisted I watch it since that's my field. In particular, she asked me to pay attention and see if I could understand the ending, because she was completely confused by it. So, I sat down and watched it with her, and I was impressed that I guessed what was going to happen at the end about an hour before the movie ended. I'll admit I was a bit confused at the start, but soon caught on to the main idea. She couldn't believe it, LOL. She was like, "There's no way you can know how it's going to end." Anyway, I thought it was a phenomenal film, from multiple points of view. All of the actors did an amazing job, the story was powerful and compelling, and the special effects, wow, absolutely mind blowing. I need to watch it again. Have a good one.

This is literally my favorite interview with Neil deGrasse Tyson. The woman is obviously enamored and into him, but in some ways we all are. I love her emotions and glances and arm movements. She is flirting with him, but he keeps it cool and scientific throughout the interview. I just like seeing it. This is what life is all about. Enjoy life everyone.

to me, it seemed like Neil was flirting with some of his touches, those might have been touches of an unconscious man while he is talking about his interest ( I do this mostly, yes, to females, a lot ) but nonetheless, maybe it just seemed to me this way.

I love how he's always enthusiastic talking about space. And loved how he gave the answer to her Black hole question, when it just swept away in conversation.

Lesson 1: If a woman is attractive a man will always want to dive into that hole (as long as she isn't related to him) Lesson 2: Attractives to a man is purely physical/chemical. It is like a fundamental constant of our species (or all speceis on this planet). It's like a sliding scale - the body needs what it needs. Think of food - when you are not huingry you don't want anything to eat. When you are a little hungry you are still fussy. When you are absolutely starving you can smell food from a mile away and will devour anyting. Women need mental stimulation I(man with more money than her to be preciws) whereas men only desire pysical qualities. A well proportioned body and reasonably symetrical face. Take this as a futue lesson for when you get married - deprive a man of sex and he will naturally look elsewhere. Dont become spiteful when he does. Lesson 4: The longer you have been married the less sex you probably get. Neil de grasse probably isnt getting any so yh he definitly wants to explore that hole. Lastly wanting to and doing are two different ttings.

I wish I could spend a year learning from this man. He is one of my role models.

What a lovely interviewer. By that, I do not mean her looks but she actually let her guest speak. No fake laughing, no irritating interruptions. She was clearly a match for him.

We need more films like Interstellar and people like NDT. Interstellar is mindbending af but has so much amazing stuff in it. And Neil is just so damn good at explaining some of the craziest (astro)physic themes with enthusiasm in an understandable manner for someone with basic education.

This is pure gold. I am freakin out right now. Stunning! His way to explain is incredible. And the pure possibility that we could "visit" a black hole some day/minute/second/etc...

Can you imagine you being at the same theatre as Neil when watching Interstellar, and everybody asking him to explain the movie in the end

David Benner Is it an argument from authority or asking people to show they possess the necessary skills to make a valid and informed argument against the points being made here? Argument from authority would be: Dr Tyson said it so you are all wrong. Whereas many here are calling the points made by a person who possesses the necessary skills wrong. The name of the person as you say is irrelevant, however many try to make it relevant. Here is can be argued it is, as the person involved obviously has the skills to make informed statements. Rebuttals to these points could be incorrect or not, but if the dissenters do not possess the skill sets to make informed statements about a VERY deep subject, the likelihood they are correct is quite low. It is a fair question to ask others to prove they possess the skills, which could be demonstrated by having a degree. I know for one I do not have them. I do the same boiled down reading like the rest of us do. The two seem similar, but they are not.

David Benner is there a fallacy defined by the act of someone identifying fallacies as the sole means of diminishing an argument? i see this all the time from kids who just took philosophy 101. science is filled with assumptions. they are humanities best assumptions from people who know more about a subject than anyone who doesn't study professionally.. but they are still assumptions. the fact that scientists assume things doesn't mean your 5 year old nephew's ideas hold equal weight to the leading scientists in a subject. people who dedicate their lives to intensively studying a physical science are going to be able to avoid the initial logical pitfalls that every layman will make. tl;dr you're nephew is a dumbass child while tyson is pretty smart

However, he is correct that the OP used an argument from authority. Yes, tyson is a very knowledgeable person about the subject but that doesn't mean he doesn't make mistakes and people can't correct him.

It would be like me debating operating procedures with a neurosurgeon. Your chances of being right do exist, but they are vanishingly small.

+chillhomie7 ye that is scientifically correct but that wount be you... and even if someone tells you about your life in lower dimension you wont be interested in it .. that life will look so limited to you.. example your are three dimensional creature .. and hypothetical two dimentional life seems crude to you right? ... like in 2d plane you can only move forward backward right lef...not up down ...so you will start to love 4 dimentions i 4d ..and forget old 3d ....

She is an excellent interviewer! And ofcourse Neil is the best person for the interview.

My first experience of the effect of gravity on time was the graphic novel "The ballad of Halo Jones" where the protagonist fought in a guerilla style war on the planet Moab where the intense gravity slowed time to a crawl. In all the sci fi movies I've watched over the years I can't think of one that has explored gravitational time dilation

If I understood the movie correctly, It's not aliens it's the future humans who built the wormhole.

msul78 he did not sayd that. he sayd an alien inteligent species could make, as a posibility, a warmhole. remember Cooper sayd 5th dimentional humans did that. as that IS possible in a long, long, long term future, there could be another alien species far more advanced THAN ours so they could be in a 5th dimentional life

This is a good example of how the degrasse performs his mating dance and hypnotize his prey.

This is a cool interview. Sweet how the interviewer being fangirl; nervous, focus on Neil, wanting to hug at the end.

Girl: I'm so awestruck, nice to see you. Can you survive falling into a black hole? Neil: No, you'd be split in part, probably starting at the base of your spine, then in half until you're just atoms. Girl: Nevermind.

sorin bunea I liked it, but had a lot of issues with the inconsistencies of technology, particularly when they are leaving Earth they use a traditional rocketship, but when they get out of the Endurance to the other planets they are using very sleek science-fiction spaceships. And this is from Earth about 50 years from now when technology has totally declined.

Excellent analysis. Dramatic licence is essential for good movie storytelling. As long as the drama doesn't take it too far to destroy credibility then it's the right way to go to convince an audience (and keep the hardcore scientists happy).

I love how Neil deGrasse Tyson explains complicated matters to such a degree that anyone can understand them and adds a bit of humor into the mix. I could listen to this guy talk all day long without getting tired.

Harry Nguyen Not sure why everyone thinks this is a hard science movie? Lol this is PURE science-fiction. A Sci-Fi movie based off of real theories and laws. If you take that into consideration you'll find this movie to be more enjoyable. Like really, this movie is just expanding on the idea of what a black hole could be. It delves into the imaginative mind and makes us think about it while also not ascertaining any law that says "this is non-fiction"

I liked how he was able to answer every question using the 7 basic soul train dance moves...if he didn't end up balls deep after that performance, she's just an ice queen

As far as entertainment interviews goes she is amazing. I hate when the interviewer trys to be the entertainment when the fact is the interviewee and their work is the real entertainment. For politics and news interviews I expect the opposite but this is AMAZING for what it is trying to do. Get more people like this pls

Great video. The lady was a great interviewer, asking the questions and then listening instead of interrupting. Neil was great answering and explaining. Imagine if Conan O'Brien were the interviewer. He would be constantly talking over Neil and I would have probably switched off after 5 minutes. As it was, I watched this video from beginning to end.

I like how open his mind is and how he combines science with theories
