Neil DeGrasse Tyson Is The WORST Kind Of Elon Musk Fanboy
Neil DeGrasse Tyson spoke out in defense of Elon Musk on Twitter a few days ago: "While casting shade on @elonmusk for what he's done, is doing, or will do, try to pause & remember that he made electric cars a normal thing in society and he commercialized space-for cargo, satellites, & people. Count him among those who are inventing civilization's future."

The fact that Elon Musk , Jeff Bezos , and Richard Branson have taken Capitalism to the Stars really bothers me . This goes against everything Space Exploration was supposed to be about . Who Killed the Electric Car was a very good yet sobering documentary. Those who were given the cars to test them out all loved them and were upset that they were taken back and basically destroyed because of Big Oil. (Prefacory note: sorry, I am not familiar enough yet to recall the newest staff’s name who mentions the Iron Man anecdote) I think the story in Iron Man one was that, Stark was nearly killed by his own weapon, as used by the government he sold it to, which was targeting the terrorists he was captured by. Even more, ‘ironical!’ To Brandon’s analysis; we can now see that, while DeGrasse Tyson is a great mathematician, scientist and astrophysicist, he is not necessarily a great thinker or philosopher. P. S. Right on; if Musk is such a great ‘businessman,’ why is Tesla and his new venture Twitter, both multi-billion dollar companies, tanking recently, causing investors and board members to revolt against Musk?
Someone teach this man what a cognitive dissonance is
Loved all the takes on Elon in this. I do want to mention one really nerdy weird thing about Iron Man...historically, while the character has mostly been a billionaire, his comics have been written by mostly working class people that recognize most of society's problems. The comic book version of the character ends up sometimes becoming very self-conscious - maybe too self-conscious, for what a billionaire could possibly be (and this does sometimes carry into the MCU version). You end up with a character that's simply not realistic, further adding to Brandon's point at the end on this isn't how the world works
we've made the worst possible society out of all the good the internet could have done...
Elon is Icarus. His incessant need to be liked and praised making him fly too close the sun. And in flying so close, he illuminated himself and put himself on display, which gave us an opportunity to really see him for who he truly is, a thin skinned petulant man baby who when closely examined isn’t the revolutionary savior of mankind he believes himself to be, and now the sun is melting his wings and he’s in a free fall downward spiral. Suits him well, since he clearly wishes to be a larger than life mythical figure

No he is the kind of guy calling it a dessert because it is a fruit salad.
Always thought Neil was a tool.
I get Daily Mail ads while watching this lol
Elon Musk did to NASA what Merck does to university science departments

Exellent point.
This definitely isn't the first time Neil DeGrasse Tyson has stuck his foot in his mouth mindlessly defending awful capitalists. I remember years ago he jumped in and pooh-pooh'd the very legitimate concerns around GMOs with a very simplistic analysis which unfortunately many people bought hook, line, and sinker due to his image. To this day I see people arrogantly parroting his nonsense on that subject, it's pretty annoying.
Intelligent people sometimes say stupid things.
This is the kind of thing that drives me crazy. Just because Elon is involved in companies that do cool things does not make him above reproach.

Or mean that he actually created everything (or anything beyond his image)
I’m as much of an Elon Musk hater as the next fella, but don’t be too hard on Neil. He’s one of the few people out there who are well known and pushing for better education and making topics most people don’t ever care to think about a little more interesting. He’s not always right, and he’s certainly said things that I’ve disagreed with too. I just think that he’s genuinely a force for good in the US, and that’s something I wish we had more of. I think the commercialization of space comment was more about making space a little more accessible for everyone (more people talk about, getting excited about, or thinking about “space”). Most of the actual “space” science is still being done through government funding. Think JWST, or even the recent Artemis I mission.

but why does he have to be an insufferable ass?
NDT is the worst kind of person in a lot of ways. The guy has quite a reputation for arrogance and rudeness, plenty of first hand stories of people who organized him to come to speaking events (aka raised hundreds of dollars a head to PAY HIM to come speak to an audience), and even if you want to dismiss all of those accounts, the fact that he tried to present himself as Carl Sagan's hand picked protege is just disgusting. Sagan not only did decades of work as a Science Communicator, he did it with humility and kindness, he didn't belittle people who weren't as smart as him, he tried his best to lift people up and teach them what he knows... while doing that still continued his work as a scientist has his name on hundreds of published scientific works, meanwhile since his doctoral thesis, Tyson has barely published half a dozen scholarly works since. Hes more interested in being a rock star than a scientist or a communicator of science. Sagan would be disgusted with him. No wonder he thinks Musk is a visionary and not a hustler, Tyson is cut from the same cloth.

Well put and smh
Interesting to notice that rich out of touch with society people all seem to fan boy on Musk. Tyson, Chappell, Rogan just to name a few.
No shocker here, if Bill Nye said this, I'd probably die inside. But this token is a known ass tic imo
Commercialization of space is a good thing. It has allowed NASA to concentrate on the stuff they are good at, which is the pure science missions and big cutting edge stuff while handing off the drudge work of getting humans and cargo to low earth orbit to somebody else. NASA was definitely not good at that. We went to the moon not for the science or for the good of humanity but over a political dick measuring contest with Russia. We stopped going back because once the political will disappeared there was no reason to keep going. If we're going to get off this planet then there needs to be a commercial reason to do it. That's reality.

Also, NASA employed Nazis. Sorry but I can’t stress this enough.
Still can't afford a Tesla as most people can't.
Neil could only agree with Thumderf00t and Common Sense Skeptic on their thorough debunking of Elon. Peace/JT
We all hoped Elon would be a real Tony Stark. Instead he turned out to be Hugo Drax.

Not only did he make electric vehicles a luxury brand, he made it a poorly constructed luxury brand.
wow elon musk has two black friends.
Neil, you're a brilliant Astrophysicist. And Elon is a brilliant idea man and salesman. Stay in your lanes.
Neil TheAss Tyson 😂 Brandon is great on here I’m loving Emma & the Boys! 🔥🔥🔥
I’m Neil deGrasse Tyson. I know a lot about cosmology, not so much about barber shops.
The Model A - The first Honda car - The Volkswagen Beetle. Small, cheap, simple. They sold a gajillion of them.
He made a luxury vehicle. They aren't affordable for normal people.
Niel DeGrasse Tyson is drunk on the neoliberal kool-aid. The series of "Alien" movies show us the potential for free enterprise in space.

their egos are the same size tho.
I hate seeing a guy I used to love and admire make such an ass of himself. The assault and harrassment accusations, and now the simping for fascists and capitalists, make this guy an absolute embarrassment
If Elon really cared, he would invest in electric trains from LA to SF to LV..

He'll never do that.
Reminder that Neil DeGrasse Tyson's big debunking of alien abductions not being real is "somebody would have taken selfies or streamed it live." 😂
The government is not going to fund space as much as a private company will. Space is much lower in priority than health care, infrastructure etc. commercialization is the only way
Oh it's comericalize, let me get my ticket..... oh wait :(
That NDT tweet is basically the rick and morty copypasta but real
Oh, no. Neal. Say it ain't so! He's lost soooooo many cool points.
Haha cat's out of the bag. What a dingus!
Probably the stupidest take I've heard is that Tesla is afraid of major car companies going electric. I like their take on many topics but they have no clue on electric cars. It sounded like they said the Honda Insight existed (hybrid, not and ev). Saying Tesla copied technology from the Ev1 is like saying GM copied technology from the 1910 Baker electric.

They're flailing, tryna fast talk their arguments against Elon's tech. They don't know crap.
"Commercializing" space is certainly something that Neil Armstrong would disagree with. Space exploration is a scientific leap for humanity but the way billionaires are approaching it is concerning.
Degrasse Tyson is a Davos celebrity. It's in no way surprising that he would rush to Elon Musk's defense. The two are both convenient icons for extreme wealth.
the sales of SUVs alone wiped out all the energy savings from EVs, wind and solar
NDT is also a proponent of the Space Force. So commercialization and militarization of space. He's like a Space NeoLiberal.
It seems Neil is spending too much time hobnobbing with politicians and rich people trying to get funding for places like NASA and he's losing sight of the common person perspective. So sad.
