Neil is so good at pairing songs together to create a wholly unique new experience. To me, this piece represents the struggles of the young working class. The Bullet section is charged up and angry at the system using him, but also somewhat self-mocking because he feels he doesn't have any real power to change it. He's aware of his dehumanization and resigned to it. Then Working enters with a melancholy longing to be free to spend time doing fun fulfilling things with the people they care about. It's desperately trying to resist hopelessness and says that we deserve better than this, that we deserve genuine connection and agency. It's a call to action for the other singer, who sadly still can't seem to liberate himself. Is that reading a little pretentious? Maybe. But that's the feeling I always get out of it.

For some reason, this comment popped in my head as I was relistening to Team Dark's theme. The lead singer of Julien-K also sounds like an emo SpongeBob. And then THAT got me thinking about how people think David Humphrey looks like Stephen Hillenburg. Someone show this to David. Please.

What a rollercoaster this song is
It took 6 years, but I finally listened to all the sources of this song and I still can't stop mixing up which lyrics belong on which backing.
The first two minutes of this song are the best thing to ever happen to music.

The fact that the second half of the song is better than the first part proves that Corgan was always the weak link in the Pumpkins.
