Such a great man and a wonderful role model for the young, sorely missed for his warmth, grace and humility. By contrast, the moronic comments from the delusional hoaxnuts (below) illustrate how low humans can sink.

Rob Stuart, I agree completely, I had the pleasure of meeting him several times. He always remembered my and my wives name, and all the details of our family. Later in life I worked for a company that built dozens of parts used by NASA. It was an honor to know him.

@@johnnymcg4596 Thanks for that. Truly a great man. I've just seen the film First Man and am also reading the book. There was something about Neil that made him very special. I saw that even as a boy of 11. One of my greatest heroes.

This guy was one of the best, forget the movies,he was born with it,totally natural to him, maybe he got lucky with the timing, but it annoys me that people slag him off,of all the Apollo guys, him & Lovell were in the top class,it still amazes me that people knock this guy,he,s a very special human, probably never wanted the fame, did his job & did it good.. RIP Neil maybe in a few hundred years, you,ll get the respect you deserve.

Gaz Tinsley "...he could not even seeing any stars..." Of course he could you little idiot. Why do you people insist on repeating the same lies, over and over? When the viewing conditions were right, Neil and his crew saw many, many stars, just as would be expected. There is no record of him anywhere saying that he could not recall seeing stars during the entire course of the Apollo 11 mission. He only uses those words when referring to one short, specific event, but unscrupulous and dishonest individuals have continued to misrepresent that quote.

There are hero's ... and then there are those like Neil Armstrong ... though he stood on the shoulders of many others associated with and who built the space program (which he routinely acknowledges), he was probably the most perfect choice for the first human to walk on another celestial object on behalf of the human race.

s r: Actually, only redundant backup tapes of the live TV broadcast of the Apollo 11 moonwalk and some telemetry data were mislaid. The live TV broadcast was relayed all over the world and recorded in numerous locations. All photos, videos and films shot by the 12 NASA astronauts who walked on the lunar surface are still in existence, along with the total of 382 kg of Moon rock and regolith they brought to Earth. Numerous multidisciplinary teams of scientists from various countries have analysed samples of that rock and regolith and found it to be authentically of lunar origin. Bang goes your infantile non-theory.

That's because you don't know how to do fact-checking and are unwilling to objectively consider all the available photographic, material and scientific evidence. Be frank: you're emotionally attached to your delusion. It takes considerable effort and intelligence to study and understand the research done on the Apollo lunar samples. The vast majority of the Apollo hoaxnuts are far too stupid and lazy-minded to even begin to do so. Nobody cares about your attitude. The global scientific community does not contest the veracity of the Apollo lunar landings and surface explorations because there's no reason to. The scientific consensus matters. Your thoughts do not.
