As a black person myself I respectfully disagree and don't believe this is the solution. 'Keep your apology and distance', further separation will only create a larger rift. Using it as a teachable moment and setting examples for the young is the best way to go about it. We won't be able to change the minds of the ones who are older and set in their ways but the new generation can see that we're no different. Separation prevents interaction with the young and will only continue the situation as is.

If you apply logic, you might understand why they asked for ID - take race out of it. They had a report that people were in a house where they didn't belong.. they need verification of who lives in the house in order to determine if there was a problem. Most people have an ID with their home address on it. Or would you prefer law enforcement does no investigation whatsoever, and just take people's word at face value? The issue here is the woman making up stories because she saw a black man in her rich neighborhood (even though he's lived there 13 years!). The police would have asked anyone to provide some kind of evidence that they own the house.. they wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't investigate.

I have a cleaning company. I have a contract with a predominantly white chuch in Brentwood. The police have been "called" on me three times. There is no alarm to mistakenly shut off and I have the key on my person and I go directly in so I dont draw attention. I've literally seen cars either slow down and watch me. One lady pulled in the parking lot and asked if she could help me. I told her I was only paying 8 bucks an hour and this is a one hour building. Then I unlocked the Church and went to work.

That statement the cop's have is basically foul and hateful, towards people outside of that police department, and the woman who called the cops is just racist, the man had been living in the house for 13 years and she doesn't know nothing about him being there, ( that's some real B.S.) if I've ever heard any at all. And she didn't mean that apology or nothing else on that piece of paper, if she was sincere about it she would have just went to him when she saw him, and then apologized in person.

At least she did apologise. As the gentleman said, it is an opportunity for teaching. I'm more concerned with his statement 'if you call 911 on a black person, the chances are he wont survive.' That to me is far more alarming than a lady with insecurity issues.

When is it appropriate to arrest someone for making false statements to police... after their victims are deceased? He has been in his home 13 years and she claimed that she knew for a fact that the home was vacant. How about pull up the address on the city assessor's website and see who owns it. How about ask her to provide proof that the home is vacant. No one, not even the police, has the authority to knock on your door and REQUIRE YOU TO prove that you live there. This is infuriating. 13 YEARS! HER ACTIONS WERE UNREASONABLE.
