Negotiating Across Cultures | Mr. Mathieu Jouve-Villard | TEDxMahindraUniversity

TEDxMahindraUniversity is an independently organized TED event by Mahindra University with the aim of bringing inspiring and insightful stories to everyone. This years event was organized on April 11, 2021 with the theme “Alt+F4”.
The need for negotiation is an important tool that decides the success of a relationship. However, people from different cultures have different styles of negotiating. Mathieu Jouve-Villard (India Head of Crédit Mutuel/ Author of “Pratique de la Négociation en Inde”) elaborates on the difference in style of negotiation between Europeans and Indians. He elaborates on the points of understanding as well as shortcomings amongst both the cultures and emphasizes on re-learning and taking a step back to understand each culture appropriately to foster a healthier and smoother negotiation process. Mathieu Jouve-Villard is the India head of the French banking group Credit Mutuel and managing partner at Wedge Consulting. He has over 20 years of experience in consulting for talks and negotiations between Indian and foreign companies and has experience in negotiation, project development and implementation.
He is the author of the book, "Pratique de la Négociation en Inde", or “The Practice of Negotiation in India”, in which he deconstructs the process of negotiations in India and contrasts it to negotiations held in other European countries.
