Angela, I love, love, love your Midnight Quilt Show. I tell everyone I can about them. I have been piecing quilts , and hand quilting for about 35 years, but only machine quilting for about a year. Your videos are my biggest inspiration. I am always repeating your mantra, "Finished is better than perfect." It's because of your videos that I have become obsessed with machine quilting. I'm also borrowing your husband's family tradition of making a quilt for someone in the family each Christmas. This year it's my stepson and his partner. Thanks again for your fabulous, inspiring videos.

What an eye-opener! Usually one sees the finished quilt and it is easy to be overwhelmed by the entire loveliness of it - but this close up really helped me see that each quilted section is actually not truly perfect - still beautiful but done by a real person!

Patty A I just love this quilt. It spoke to me the first time I saw it so I went to my stash and there was some basic colors to chose from. I made the top but have not yet done the sandwish so I can get quilting. It will get done. I have been learning a lot about quilting from you and although I have been quilting a while I have just so many new ideas to work with. You are very good about showing us how. I need to get some quilting rulers, but have not been able to get the right foot for my machine. I am stuck for now. Don't worry I will figure it out some time. Love what you do. I have watched you many times over and I still enjoy each session. Tha nks for the free pattern. I got it.

I started watching this video and became mesmerized as always. About a third of the way through it I realized I had forgotten all about my lemon and orange peels simmering away in their sugar syrup out in my kitchen! I actually had to pause the video so I could go and check on them. I gave them a stir and decided they were fine, so I got to watch the rest of the video. I need to make this quilt AND practice my machine quilting. But first I need to get those candied peels tossed in sugar, dried and used in some German Lebkuchen. Merry Christmas to you and your family, Angela!

Brain Freeze my first sewing machine had huge tension issues, mainly it was because I kept trying to use the low quality thread that was given to me with the machine. Better quality thread and increase the thread length should help. And a through de-linting of your machine can’t hurt either.

Tensionproblems, breaking thread, skipping stitches etc. and the problems doesn't go away after new needle, new thread, rethreading the machine and those kind of fixes. You make it look so easy and I think you are kind of brilliant at what you do so perhaps you have an answer for me.

helena wiloboken I recently read that a bad scratch on the bobbin can cause thread problems. Maybe you should check? I have no clue how that would happen but maybe the needle was bent and scratched it? Try a bigger needle maybe. I’ve found that my machine likes glide for top thread but not bottom thread. Also if you’re using cotton, try polyester thread and see if that changes anything. Good luck

For people scared of starting quilting- don't feel like you have to start out with crazy free motion designs. You can start out with simple straight line quilting with a walking foot. As you get comfortable with that, you can progress to slightly more complicated designs. There's SO MUCH you can do with a walking foot. Check out Jacquie Gering and her book WALK. She's also got several Craftsy videos (BluPrint, now) where she walks you through straight line quilting designs.

Do you have a video about how to probably start and stop with machine quilting? Like how do you secure your quilting when you start and then secure it when you break thread? Thanks!

If you're doing edge-to-edge designs, you don't need to secure your thread. When you bind your quilt it'll lock in those other thread ends. If you stop in the middle of the quilt, you can knot your threads and bury the tails. There's tons of videos on burying your tails if you search for them. I'd recommend not starting/stopping in the middle if you can help it but obviously some designs call for it.

I don't think Angela actually buries her threads (I don't either). When starting a new line of quilting (like if you have to change bobbins in the middle), I just pull the bobbin thread to the top, stitch in place a few times to secure the threads and cut those ends right off. It works fine! If you are into quilting to be judged or something (I am not!), then you will want to bury those tails, but I just don't want to take that time. :)
