    The writers wanted us (the audience) to be traumatized. They worked with a psychologist who specializes in PTSD while doing the writing. Andrew undeniably deserved huge awards after his performances in TWD, especially for this particular episode. The main reason Negan is such an intimidating villain, is because of Andrew. His insanely amazing performance as Rick was what made Negan a believable, real threat. Andrew showed a huge range of emotions, sometimes just with his eyes. He deserves so much more attention and love than what he got, it genuinely depresses me sometimes at how overlooked he is 😞

    The first time I saw Glenn on screen, I remember my 9 year old self pointing at the screen and saying he's my favorite. And since then, he's been my favorite. I waited a whole year for season 7, anxiously, and seeing Glenn die like that, not only in a cruel way but seeing Negan LAUGHING and MOCKING him while he fought for his life, ruined it for me, every time I see that scene even after all these years, I still cry. And also because of the fact that Glenn saved Rick in the beginning, and he couldn't save him now, and the fact that if Daryl hadn't punched Negan maybe Glenn could be alive... this episode is definitely what the walking is. dead, great reaction.

    They would have come for the group regardless. They already knew where they were. The only thing that might have been different is who died. I don’t blame Rick’s group for trying to eliminate the threat but they should have done more research. I think they thought the outpost that they hit was where Negan was and that’s the only group he had. At this point there was no winning against Negan whether they hit the outpost or not. The group got sloppy but facing Negan was inevitable.

  • @Almanti2

    @Almanti2

    Ай бұрын

    On the way to Alexandria doesn't mean on the way to kill Glenn and Abraham. Negan can be negotiated with. Saviors had an ongoing deal with The Kingdom that was being honored as negotiated, a deal which still allowed Ezekiel to continue leading The Kingdom and didn't involve turning it into a Savior outpost or anything like that. Rick drew first blood against Negan before they could even meet each other or make any deal between the communities. This would only make Negan assume that Rick can't be negotiated with and would need to be brought to heel.

    @Alwaysmantis yeah, tell that to Oceanside. Btw, where are their boys and men? And tell that to The Kingdom when they're ONE item short. And the icky trash people. What happened to them? Negan's system did NOT "save" them; rather, it oppressed them (even his "wives"). Under Negan's leadership, the vulnerable were supressed, and bullies thrived. With Negan, people are not saved; they die. Each community has the right to self-determination. Bottom line, Negan was wrong.

It would not have mattered if Alexandria attacked or not... it would have happened. This wasn't revenge for Negan, this is how he owns ALL the communities. This is why it bothers me so much. I don't understand why the guy in the orange and I'm sorry if I don't know your name talking like what Rick and them did for food was a bad idea. The group attacked them two times before they met with hilltop they just didn't know who the group was. The plan was to not only get food that they desperately needed otherwise they would have died slowly of starvation, But to attack the group that attacked them first and strike them first before they would have became a bigger problem. The only problem is they did not fully know who negan was. They didn't know how big the group was. every plan has a risk you either don't do it and starve or you do do it and risk a war against the group you don't know nothing about, but you do know they attacked you twice before and they're willing to kill you come to your home and take whatever they want. They knew that much before they met with hilltop before they came up with the plan to kill them in their sleep so stop acting like it was a bad idea cuz they had no choice

    definitely one of the most graphic and realistic looking shit I've seen in a tv show. But THAT is how you introduce an anatagonist, holy shit. Both Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan) and Andrew Lincoln (Rick) deserved a grammy for their performance in those 2 episodess, the acting was peak level. And I agree with both of your sides .. it would've happened sooner or later anyways but they definitely should've done more research before fucking with them I mean that way they still might've had a chance of at least planning ahead, hiding food or weapons somewhere getting an idea of how many there are and training preparing the people somehow or something.. well to late for that now. And a lot of people might've mentioned it already but remember what Dr. Jenner from the CDC said to Rick in the finale of season 1 when he said he was grateful he opened the door to let them keep trying? He said „the day will come when you won't be“, just like 7x1 episode title👀 yikes..

Regardless of whatever it wouldve been a problem....somebody wouldve died the minute negan's crew wouldve bump into Rick's group. Thats their M.O.....like the biker group we first met literally said it "usually we kill one of you and you take us back to your community so you know we mean business"......at that point we was loosing sasha and abraham. Until daryl was like "NOT TODAY SATAN".

    Comic Comparisons : In the comics the group goes to Hilltop for sole purpose of getting Maggie Glenn and Sophia (she is still alive at this point in the comics Glenn and Maggie took care of her after Carol committed suicide) After Dwight’s attack on Alexandria Glenn and Maggie agreed Hilltop would be a safer place for both them and Sophia and the group decides to escort them There’s no pregnancy complication. The roadblocks don’t happen in the comics The group stops for the night and that’s when The Saviors grab them There’s no kidnapping other members or putting their belongings on display Eugene doesn’t try to cause a distraction. Morgan and Carol’s whatever it was doesn’t happen in the comics because neither of them are alive at this point. Negan’s entrance in the show is damn near for line as in the comics save for in the comics Negan uses a considerable amount of F-Bombs and various other curses which you can hear on the Blu Ray DVD and it’s the uncensored version The eeny-meeny-miney-moe is one of the most iconic scene in TWD history This episode is damn near flawless and this arc is gonna bring the best one liners and badass moments of the entire show.

Comic was wild.

    It gets lost a few times over the next few seasons that our group were the ones who technically struck first, unless you want to count when Daryl/Abe/Sasha ran into the motorcycle saviors on the road. And even in that encounter, all of the saviors were offed and all of our group made it out lol. And then, you go into an outpost and straight up execute 30-40 people and think there's going to be no repercussions? Only because our group, or most of our group, believed it would be easy because of everything they've been through previously. But Negan isn't the Termites. He isn't the Wolves. He isn't the Governor. Negan is a whole other beast. Cunning, charismatic, and ruthless when he has to be. And unlike the Governor, Negan isn't a complete psychopath as shown in upcoming episodes you've already seen. But that's what makes him even more dangerous. He's capable of thinking logically. Also, like I mentioned above, our group murked 30-40 saviors and Negan only took 2 of our people, and it would've only been Abraham if Daryl didn't punch Negan. So he only planned on taking one of our members when our group took dozens of his. You can argue that he sees value in Rick's group, even seemingly being impressed by them.

They killed a lot of Negan's people, and he only took one to make his point. Then Daryl acted up like a bratty child and we lost Glenn too. Negan only killed one as an example/punishment because, to him, people are resources. 7x1 was my first ever TWD episode, and of course I had to watch the entire series from the start, like 10+ times. Rick had every right to kill and try to stop those saviors. You think he deserved to lose ANYONE for trying to stop enslavement? For trying to help a newly found ally who was being blackmailed into slavery? Maybe if Negan wasn't a sick freak, he wouldn't have been thrown in a cell for 6 years. He was enslaving, murdering, and robbing people and you think that Ricks group were in the wrong for trying to stop that? Daryl punching Negan was stupid, but it isn't his fault that the group has to keep dealing with psychotic assholes who want to antagonize and harm random people for their own gain.
