    Awesome video Tobi! Really enjoyed it! Very nicely executed (fantastic production skills, awesome effects - especially the one where you get the case of the slider off the table and next thing I see the slider altogether with its parts/accessories is there on the table) and also the topic (being the slider) is extremely interesting for me. This slider looks pretty good to me, and I am impressed that you were also able to use it in a vertical mode. The thing is that I also have a motorised slider - mine is from GVM - it has similar characteristics as this Neewer slider (but mine is 80cm, came already assembled and the remote on my slider is not a wireless remote, but bound by cable 😅) - I had some difficulties when using mine in vertical mode though. But now that I see how you used yours, I have to try this with mine too. Very well made video and nicely presented slider. Thank your for once again a great content!

    Most of my video is done using either an iPhone or OM1 camera. I have also used it with a larger Sony XDcamera. I have found it was not smooth with a telephoto lens close to subject. Using a 50mm lens or wider at about 4' works well. I now use the slider mainly for interviews, use a 100mm lens about 6-8 ' from subject and works well. The end action as it switches direction for a sec or so is not used however. @@nayemhq

    Hiho Josua!

    Puhh, I wouldnt consider it that fast to be honest, I wanted to finish it way earlier :D But thats how its always is. I do have a certain workflow which seems to work best for me: 1. i write a "script" for the video, basically just the text im going to speak in the video 2. voice recording the text script 3. i define which kind of shots i would need for each paragraph / sentence in the script. So like making notes which camera angles would be nice, how long these shots need to be (roughly) 4. the recording process. Thanks to step 3, i can just work off the necessary shots quite quickly as I already defined what i need. I always get a few extra detailed shots just to be sure. 5. editing process (which is also quite fast, thanks to the script + defining which shots belong to what part of the script 6. little bit of text animation (here im losing quite a lot of time because i tend to experiment a bit :D 7. Color grade 8. Render

    Hi@@LICHTCATCHINGTOBY. Thank you for this video. Very comprehensive and informative. I also like your workflow plan, it makes good sense. I took delivery of this slider a week ago and have already converted an old Bass Guitar case so that it can remain mostly set up with motor and belt attached in transit. When I go out on a shoot I'm given very little time to set up, so this will help immensely. I purchased some foam rubber and cut out pieces to set and protect the slider and other accessories like the remote and battery etc. It works a treat. I have one issue with the slider however. I discovered that when shooting with it for the first time today, using an iPhone 11 Pro Max mounted on the Neewer Ball Head, I found that it shudders quite badly rendering the shots completely useless. I tried everything, including mounting a gimbal to the Ball Head. Interesting results, but I wouldn't want to be doing that at every shoot. I finally figured out that the tighter the belt, (and I didn't really have it very tight to start with), the more vibration or "shuddering" occurred. So I loosened the belt and found that the vibration mostly disappeared. Because the belt is a bit slacker, there seems to be less transmission of vibration. The travel is now smooth, at least until it moves closer to the tensioner. There was still a little vibration as it moved closer. So the only additional thing I had to do, is place a small wedge in the tensioner so that it doesn't move. . . . . . . . . . . . It's now working very well indeed.

    @@SmakOnContent That sounds so cool that you are using an old bass guitar case for the slider. You are going to confuse people when you setup it up in front of them :D Very unfortunate that you had a few issues. I could imagine that the weight also plays a role in that situation. I mostly tested the slider with the big Manfrotto head seen in the video, in combination with my Sony A7 III. So my setup is waaaay more heavy than yours. But i am glad that you fixed it :) I will definitely try losing the belt a bit more the next time.

  • @SmakOnContent

    @@LICHTCATCHINGTOBY Yes, I think you’re right, the heavier the camera and lens etc, the less issue you will have with the vibration on a firmer belt. Slacker tension is definitely worth noting for very light cameras and phone cams.

    For vertically mounting you mention that you first lock the slider in place then activate the motor then unlock the slider. Does this mean that if the motor is not activated that it doesn't lock the slider in place? I.e. if the slider is vertically mounted and the power to the motor is cut while the camera is near the top will it crash to the floor?

  • @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY

    @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY

    2 жыл бұрын

    Sorry for the late reply! Yes, you need the power of the motor to hold it in place for vertical use. Use, if the power would go out, your camera will fall to the end of the slider. The lock just cant be locked while using it. So, if you are scared of using it like that, you would need to DIY same sort of safty mechanism, like some sort of a safty rope.

    Hello thanks for the review, I am looking to buy this, do you know if there is a separate power input for the motor so you can run it on a very long time lapse or would you have to hot swap the batteries out, I know sony made a double battery for camcorders so I guess that will fit this but im talking about 3 or 4 ddad s use and I dont know if the battery will last that long. Thank you ( fantastic TV by the way). I was also wondering whether you could add longer rails and go more vertical into 3 metres for example, I assume nothing stops the motor from going that distance as long as you are under weight?

  • @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY

    @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your nice comment! Do you have a power socket available where you do these long time lapse shots? If so, you just could get a Sony F dummy battery. One like this: amzn.to/3a5bE7I or amzn.to/3wQWLzJ Hot swapping doesnt really work, as you would need to start the whole setup process again (Setting A to B point, timelapse options). Yes, extending the slider should work, as the motor will go as far as you tell him to, so that shouldnt be a problem. But a three meter vertical setup sounds quite complicated to get a sturdy setup. I just dont know how you could extend it so there is a smooth transition in the middle. If you are good with manual craftmanship then you are probably good to go. What are you trying to record in that timelapse? sounds like a really interesting project. The TV is the Samsung Frame TV, i do have a review about it on my channel. @@LICHTCATCHINGTOBY Thanks Tobias Thanks for that I had forgotten on that you can get a dummy battery, I could pop that on a socket or a large battery using a buck converter to manage the power, If I go ahead with it Ill check the voltage and also pop a stabiliser on it. I havent fully decided on this, I may go for a 2040 or the next vslot up stabiliser a guy in the uk makes which looks quite good, as you say it could bend in the middle and 3 metres of 2040 is way more rigid than carbon. Its nothing exciting, its to follow a pool build but from inside the pool!! Most time lapses on pooles are from the outside I want one from the inside hence the osmo or go pro so i can waterproof the cameras. Will be fun, If it works well Ill load it up and send a link in about 3 months. Ill check the TV link thanks and most work is ok for me apart from electronics which for some reason remain a mystery, it was bad enough learning spanish!!! Many thanks.... How is the panning on the slider to keep a subject in focus?

  • @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY

    @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY

    3 жыл бұрын

    Well, the panning feature rotates around a focus point in the middle. So framing a subject, if you want a circular movement, is really easy. That photo from the Neewer website illustrates that: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0225/2960/5706/products/5_ee30734a-9c52-4c8c-ac4b-47fb80b4dd05_800x.jpg?v=1596621136 For everything else you will need a motorized video head. I hope that answers your question.

    Sorry for my way too late response! I would suggest you a smaller slider, so that you have to only carry one sturdy tripod with you. So maybe like 80cm. This slider from neewer is a great starting point. There are also slider outthere which are more focused on smartphone use, like the Vectorgear Air slider. There you can program focus pulls with your iPhone. For a tripod I would just get a decent sturdy tripod (doesnt have to be from Manfrotto or something similar). Also, i would highly recommend buying a second hand one, as tripods just dont break.

    They’re making a 23.6”/60 cm model, right? A lot cheaper, but the mechanisms look totally different. Or is this an OLDER model: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08NDLT3W9/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=AFA3TDJDXF79M&psc=1 I’m self vlogging, sitting at a desk, and want something like this just for zoom-ins, using a GoPro. My only concern is whether it can give me a fast enough zoom-in for like a dramatic effect. Finally, does this linked model here “promise” to do what yours does, albeit at a shorter size?

    Yea, Neewer is making quite a lot of different slider products. I dont know that exact model, it looks quite a lot different. So i really cant give you any information about that. Are there any reviews out there? And for example, the Neewer Slider that I review would be too slow for any dramatic zoom ins. Of easy going vlogging i could imagine that the MOZA Slypod series could be for you, but its more expensive than the slider you linked.
