Neewer CM28/Fulaim X5 - The One Reason NOT to Purchase

In this video I talk about the one reason why you should not purchase either the Neewer CM28 or the Fulaim X5 wireless mic system. These two products are the same, they are made by the same company, I'll link to an excellent video below that discusses the story of these two versions of the same product.
This product is fantastic in everyway but one, and if that one feature is why you purchased or want to purchase it, then don't. Again, for the price, it can't be beat!!!
The last 3 minutes discuss the one feature that does not perform as advertized!!! Please add your thoughts in the comments - does this matter to you? is it a feature you care about?

Note: Talking about this video from the technical video production view, this is that forth video where I have a script and am reading from a teleprompter. As you can see, I'm still getting the hang of this skill. Reading while keeping connected with you the viewer, and not looking like reading!!! Some parts I do just that, but for the most part I'm not. I will still post these videos, even though they are not perfect. This is all part of the learning process, just do it!!! Get a little better next time. One thing I notice I did not do here, was occasionally look away from the camera lens, to make it look like I was thinking. So, in my next video, I'll be practicing that. The channel is still tiny, so not a lot of people will see it any way. And if they do, then the channel is bigger and they are looking at older content. Either way, it's a win!!! Thank you for reading this and watching my videos, it's so much appreciated.

So, I guess if you use the receiver to record your main audio - and only use the transmitter audio to cover any 'bluetooth dropouts' it'll be a very workable system. Just don't rely on the transmitter audio for everything! Nice review - thanks.

Thanks, Eric. Great review. p.s. I love your honesty about learning how to be more professional with the teleprompter, etc. Don't sell yourself short. I thought you did a great job. The video editor, after all, is the strongest self-critic. Keep up the good work. (I just bought the Mikes for my GoPro media mod.)

Thank you for this valuable information. I just purchased the Neewer cm28 last night and will definitely be testing this set's internal recording function. Hopefully, I won't have any issues. Thanks again.

The Neewer CM28 I got does not have de audio recording problem. To test, I connected the transmitter to a stereo receiver and recorded 34 minutes of music on the CM28 storage. No gaps. I had to use my own cable to download the recording to a computer because the USB cable that they sent is a cheap charging only cable, it does not work with computers as data cable (but it charges the device). Note: my CM28 was missing the white data cable (it was supposed to come with a black charging cable and a white data cable. Amazon support gave me a satisfactory solution (after I posted this comment.)

Thank you. I'm only an occasional Fulaim X5 user. Suits my needs. Sure the Shure is better! One thing I've noticed is that the X5 is very location dependent. Best 150 mm in front of my mouth. On my shirt, NOT as good. Strangely, under my shirt with deadcat sounds better!!! I've not been impressed with a lav (PurplePanda) plugged into the TX. The PP sounds definitely better plugged into my iPhone 12pm. I've been impressed with the audio reviews from the LarkM2 but not seen any comparisons.

Thank you. And thanks for comparing it with your studio mic. That's something most reviewers fail to do but is vital! I have an X5 & love it. I've only tested the inboard recording for short sections and dont plan to use it. I have found that the audio quality is very sensitive to location of the Tx. Handheld in front of my mouth is definitely best but not very functional. Second best is under my t-shirt with the deadcat on. Much better than outside the shirt. I also have found that plugging a wired lav into the Tx is not as good as the Wired lav plugged directly into my iphone12pm.

How did you access the inboard recordings on your computer? This just isn't working for me - I've connected the receiver to both my MacBook Pro and a PC and neither 'see' it so I can't access the WAV files stored on it.

You can't expect an omni mic mounted to your shirt is going to sound as good in the studio as a mic with proximity effect in front of your mouth. Sorry, you're comparing apples to oranges.

I've recently received a Neewer CM28 and have tried to download recorded audio clips from the transmitter. I've connected the receiver to my MacBook Pro using the included data cable but, try as I might, I cannot get my MacBook Pro to recognise the Neewer. How do you access the audio recordings on the CM28?! I assumed it would just appear on my MacBook Pro as a data drive but nothing appears. I even tried ImageCapture thinking that perhaps I have to download the audio recordings via that Mac app but - again - nothing. I then tried connecting it to a PC thinking that perhaps it just didn't like Macs (mine is running Senoma) but nada. How did you access the recordings on your CM28? Please help!

@mrnardo Thank you for the question and checking out my video! Much appreciated!!! The transmitter have a USB C connector, connect this with a cable to your Mac and the transmitter will show up as a usb drive. Note: you must have started the transmitter recoding for there to be any files. The Receiver is used for recording the audio on to a camera, or external audio recorder. It can also be used to monitor the audio. Hope this helps!!! E.

@@EricJoyce24 thanks for the reply! I think I know where I've gone wrong - I've been connected the transmitter not the receiver to my Mac! So does that mean each of the two supplied transmitters has their own 4GB of storage? I assumed (wrongly) the 4G of storage was in the receiver. So if I connect the TRANSMITTER to my computer, it connects as a microphone device allowing me to record audio directly to my Mac from the receivers? That makes sense and could be useful. Thanks again! Your video has been so helpful. Really appreciate your response.

@mrbardo Yes, each Transmitter has internal storage and when connected to a computer via a USB C cable, the transmitter shows up as a USB Drive. If you have used the Transmitter record function by pressing and holding the Set button for 2 Seconds, then the recorded files will the available for download. The Receiver connects to a Camera and/or an External Audio Recorder via the standard Stereo Jack cable. I'll do this video on this topic, a brief tutorial on setup and the use of the X5/CM28 in the field. Thank you again for the comments!!! E.

@@EricJoyce24 thanks again! I've been playing with connecting the RX unit directly to my Mac. Once connected by USB, it installs itself as a microphone device on MacOS which is quite useful. You can then use something like Voice Memos on the Mac to record the audio from the transmitters directly to your Mac. The more I experiment with the CM28, the more I like it. Audio quality does seem a little flat though - what I'm getting doesn't seem quite so 'full' as other mics and lacks a bit of high end sharpness even with noise reduction switched off. Maybe I'm expecting too much from a $100 set of wireless mics lol
