If she was born in Hong Kong, it was a British colony at that time. No doubt she studied O and A level exams and went t the UK for further studies. I’m from the UK and she clearly has a British accent, at least she did at the time of this interview.

She studied in an American and British school both in Hong Kong and Bangkok. Her accent is British it’s not fake and nothing Indian about it. English spoken in Mumbai is totally different.. Hindi came into her life after she joined movies. Her voice was dubbed in Jawaani her first movie. She sounds exactly the same in her Netflix show today, 30 years later!

Neelam was one 80s/90s actress who deserved more recognition. Her laughter is infectious. She's so cute..

Interesting that she was 18 during this interview, 15 when her first movie released, and 13 when she acted in it.

I still sometimes watch her songs and remember those old days which were so beautiful. I always watch her song "dil behalta hain mera aapke aa jaane se". I still like her a lot. I am 44 now.

Not many know this,..way back in the 80's and in the beginning of 90's , Neelam Kothari and Mithun Chakraborty were the Only brand ambassadors for National Panasonic for South Asia. That was a time when National Panasonic had not entered india and most of its products were imported via Gulf or east asia,..but still National Panasonic signed up Neelam and Mithun among the lot of hindi movie stars. Both had a very long stint(may be close to a decade) in promoting the Japanese product in india and it was a win win situation for the actors and for the electronics giant when it comes to Electronics brand promotion by movie stars, which was unheard of in india at that pre liberalisation era..

Beautiful and articulate. Her pairing with govinda was a treat to watch

Her first movie Jawaani came in 1984 and she was just 14 1/2 ….She didn’t know Hindi, had heavy accent . Her voice was dubbed in Jawaani and Love 86…In 2 years , she worked hard on her Hindi and acting ….and voila!!! After 2 movies , look at her Hindi diction and acting in ILZAAM , Sindoor, etc….Today’s foreigner actresses like Katrina , Jacqueline have all the facilities of tutor , producer friends , social media , internet and still they can barely speak Hindi

which question was difficult? i failed to notice any difficult question but yes if see it from the perspective of a low IQ young film starlet then yes they would b highly difficult to understand and answer. For that the actress wd hv brain IQ of minus 250 points.

Neelam probably was one of those rare actresses who looked her age ....She was just 13 when approached for her first film and when it ( jawaani ) was released she was merely 15. I still remember when I saw her in jawani that time ,she looked like a cute lil school girl ( which she was ). Even in love 86 she was a kid actually . But how quickly she learnt fluent Hindi and became confident in movies like Sindoor and Ghar mein Ram Gali mein sham
