Michael Hutchence was a frontman for the ages. Every cell in his body radiated otherworldly charisma. At some point, y’all definitely need to watch a video of him to get a real glimpse of his greatness. And please, please, please make “Don’t Change” your next INXS reaction. It is perfection.

Longtime INXS fan here! Y'all gotta listen to Don't Change. Kick was their huge breakthrough monster smash of an album, but Don't Change off their 1982 album Shoobah Shabooh is the bee's knees, as the kids are wont to say these days. Give it a spin. You won't be sorry.

I don’t think I could say it better than Raggett said in his review of the album Shabooh Shoobah: But if "The One Thing" is grand, "Don't Change" is just flat out fantastic, one of the best album closers ever dreamed up. Soaring in on a just dreamy enough synth line from Andrew Farriss and then a quick guitar burst, the rest of the band then explodes into action -- it's some of the best rock-without-apology-or-quotes sound anyone could ever hear, crisp, fierce, and clean. Hutchence takes charge of that action like the vaunted frontman he was, delivering one of the more cryptic but still just right romance lyrics from that time with aplomb and fire. The chorus is simply killer, while the concluding, extended calls of the title phrase over the song's last notes make up the icing on the cake.

I agree. Watching the 1982 film "Reckless" with Daryl Hannah and Aiden Quinn made me an INXS fan. "Shabooh Shabbah" was featured throughout. "The One Thing" was the first song of INXS I heard. I also saw them at the US Festival as they broke here in America.

A+ for me! Always watch their videos when I listen to their songs. Best frontman…oozes sexuality!
Back in da Eighties, we got together to dance all the time. It was a dance floor smash. Steady groove, call and response, DJs were spinning it everywhere. Plus, M TV. INXS fit the times like a glove.
@zennenn

It's hard for young people today to really grasp how much time we spent on the dancefloor when we were coming of age in the 80s and 90s. Music to make you dance was a huge part of our lives then.
Great dance club song. This is an extremely underrated band, imo.
"There's somethin' about you girl, that makes me sweat!" A line that will only work for a rockstar... 🙄
Michael Hutchence is so memorable. Thank you, MTV. "What You Need" is another catchy one from INXS that gets you on the dance floor...or living room.
I met Michael at a recording studio in Sydney in the late 80's. I was a teenybopper and a girl at my school had a neighbour who was 'in the biz' and told us where to show up to meet the band. Michael was one of those celebs who was even more godlike in person - not many are. He was very sweet and kind to my friends and I, and even randomly started speaking significant amounts of Japanese with our Japanese exchange student friend. Good memories.
Mchael Hutchence owned the stage! he was that dude!
I strongly recommend "What You Need".. and it's award winning official video. It's higher energy, and just better all around, imo 👍

I can SEE the video when I hear this song… still.
I saw INXS at a tiny little club in Fort Worth Texas. I had to use my fake ID to get in. I was 13 I went by myself. None of my friends wanted to go. They were all wearing orange jumpsuits. And they were awesome. I think it was in 81 or 82. It’s not even on their gig roster. It was a club at a mall not even joking they were awesome. They were a real band not just electronic music. To understand how huge this song was you have to watch the video. Because everything was about the video at this point in time video really did kill the radio star. It is an excellent video, but the hotness of Michael Hutchins cannot be downplayed . One of the most requested videos ever. MTV completely changed the way we listen to music.

Always loved this song. Was already too old to be dancing to it, but that guitar riff is just so freaking catchy. Also, Alex, the Blurred Lines comparison was spot on.
I have to agree with all that suggest Don’t Change. It’s INXS on their rise to superstardom- however, I would also suggest Original Sin, their first #1 in Australia and first charting hit in the US. Nile Rogers produced and left his funky fingerprints on it including the use of Daryl Hall’s vocals.

You need to see him actually perform it to really get the full vibe.

New Sensation must be your next INXS reaction. However there are so, so many to choose from.
I loved their Kick era, but I've recently gone back and found that the albums The Swing and Shabooh Shoobah are also incredible. Interesting. I’m solidly Gen X (class of ‘88), and this is one of the few top 40 80s songs I will listen to and enjoy if it comes on. I feel like INXS has held up really well, compared to most other 80s top 40 offerings.

Sooooo true. Michael was 🔥🔥🔥
INXS was and still is one of my favorite bands. I'm so sad we lost MIchael Huthence. He was soooo incredibly sexy and had a great voice. My friends and I were all in love with him back in the day. I'd recommend these songs next: "Don't Change" "This Time" "Not Enough Time" "Mystify" "Beautiful Girl" I always love when they come up on my playlist.
Mediate needs to be played along with Need You Tonight. It just goes together...Another favorite is What You Need. Don't Change is a good one, and one of their early ones that is very enjoyable.
Mediate finishes this. Guys you happen to be missing the boat on Original Sin. One thing and Bitter Tears right there. They have a HUGE catalog.
Love your channel. You both need to start doing the video versions of some of these songs to feel the full experience. This song is a prime example -- Michael's sexy charisma is definitely evident in his voice, but incomplete without watching him.
Long Version Need You Tonight - Meditate ! EVEN BETTER
You guys have to see them live or at least the video to see the missing element from this listen which is Michael’s insane level of frontman ship. He was electric.
"What you Need" 🔥
That complete CD was great, still have it and revisit it many times.
"The One Thing" and "Suicide Blonde", please.
I’m an old broad now, but back in the eighties dancing to this song, he was so hot!🤓
Original Sin was what got me hooked to INXS!!! You need to do Devil Inside it’s a movie soundtrack classic
They put a lot of thought into the order of the songs on this album, and many of the songs are meant to lead right into the next song. So part of the reason this song ends the way it does is because it leads into the song Mediate.
The riff is magic, the voice whispers in your head long after the song is done, the theme is universal - you’re lonely, you know it, you see that someone and it might be love, but at very least it’s true lust at first sight. This song makes me feel reckless and alive. ❤😁👍
You need to go LIVE with these guys.
God, I love this album.
The "im going to buy a yacht" line made me actually LOL
I saw INXS open for REM in Athens, GA, in the early 80s. REM lived in Athens, but this concert happened before either band had a hit.
Listen to "Suicide Blonde"!
What you need to listen to is What You Need, off the previous album, which is like this song, but a little better.
The video is iconic ! ❤
Another awesome song is “Beautiful Girl”.
Lots of great music from these guys. Devil Inside is my personal favorite but I'm good with whatever the community wants.
You all handled that rating diplomatically. This Song is played with next song which morphed together perfectly.
When INXS played live on The Tube (an old music TV show) in the UK, many people rang to complain that they were miming - something that was forbidden on the show. The presenter had to make an announcement next week to re-assure people that they were playing live - he said 'they're just that good!'
In the mid-90’s, I sat at a table at an Italian restaurant in London adjacent to Michael Hutchence’s table. I was always a big fan of INXS. I could tell the respect was mutual because he didn’t bother me, and I didn’t bother him.
ONE OF THE BEST LIVE CONCERT VIDEOS OF ALL TIME>>>INXS at Wembley Stadium. Blows it out of the park.
"New Sensation" is a SERIOUS banger❤
I was a youngster metal fan when this came out but somehow INXS sat right alongside all the hair metal groups I liked.
You won’t be disappointed. INXS Suicide Blonde live at Wembley.🤟🏾🤟🏾
Great reaction, yes, S tier at the time, completely different and took the world by storm. Try "Devil Inside" next!
Just love the way Hutchence growls out "make me sweat". Elvis like in its sneer. Try Devil Inside next, that will get you banging again on INXS.
Another one to watch the video for...one of MTV's top rated videos. Then watch the Mystify video - goes from the studio to live performance...amazing!

I've heard this song many times but never noticed the bongos. They're subtle, but they're there. I wish they had pulled that sound out a bit more.
Yep this album was huge when I was in school for sure and INXS was all over the then MTV.

This was my go to Karaoke song. 😂
I still have that cassette and many great songs on it 😊
Just can’t sit still while this song is playing. Love it
Haha the record executives offered them $1mil to trash this record and start again. Their manager snuck it to college radio and this song in particular went off. The record ofc went on to break all sorts od records. So your inference about it being perfect for younger adults/teens was spot on.
My favorite band in the 90s.
Must remember that this was from the "album" era, meaning the song definitely hits harder as part of the album listening experience as opposed to hearing it on its own... especially this song. Keep listening to INXS!
The record label tried to KILL this album and were willing to pay 1 million to bury it and make a new album in place of this one. The band self-funded the rollout of it and it eventually was multi-platinum. The lack of vision at the label was stunning and fortunately the band manager knew what they had and made the gutsy call to plow on otherwise none of us would have heard any of these songs.
