This game looks phenomenal for a PSX title! Back then I used to play racing games a lot. Can't rely tell why I eventually stopped.

probably because almost all racing games (except for mobile racing games) became simulation and that gets boring

They're still kinda simcades, as pure sim experience is a different kind of beast altogether. Approachable gameplay, good sense of progression, the atmosphere, the soundtrack are some things that attracted me to them, but the newer the titles the more alien they feel. I guess that the part of not being the target audience, I guess.

i used to have the demo disc for this on PC. i got it for free at a gas station. absolutely love this game.

Thank you, Dfactor! The PC version of NFS5 Porsche is still my favourite racing game. I see that the PS1 version is a completely different game (aside from the Porsche Topic, the intro and the music), but it seems pretty fun too. Maybe I should try this version as well...

The music is mostly different, but does share a few tracks. For this video I used the PC soundtrack to avoid copyright trolls. The controls of the PS1 version are rather different than the PC version, so you could definitely try it out as a curiosity.

Yeah right, I recognized only some songs of the PC version. The driving physics were pretty realistic and "heavy" at the time, but the PS1 version seems to be more arcade style.@@DfactorLongplays

@@Chrissi274 Yeah, it's a night and day difference. Especially after NFS4, which had the better physics on PS1. A big problem with NFS5 on PS1 is that its frame rate is tied to speed, and the frame rate is uncapped.

​@@DfactorLongplays I mostly have the PC graphics of NFS in mind, but I just looked up the PS1 version of NFS4 and wow, it really looks like the PC version (aside from texture filters and resolution). Still beautiful colors and lighting of the tracks. 24 years... this is so crazy. The NFS5 frame rate issue sounds like fun... ; )

The game is made by French developers and its intended frame rate was 25fps. But the game shipped with an uncapped frame rate in all regions, so it goes above and below it. Because of that, the speed of the timer is usually never correct to the real world, even on a real PS1. The timer speeds up even more if you try to apply a frame rate limit, like I did.
