No other SMs I'd rather be surrounded with. Salamanders, imperial fists and the lamenters are the humans champions and for non heretical reasons the emporers aswell but where his light fails to shine those legions start making holes for the light to get in

What cracked me up was her saying the defenders didn't fight hard enough. The Defenders: Ultramarines (spacemarines) Salamanders (spacemarines) Cadians(Planet broke before them) Krieger(Do not know the meaning of giving up) Sisters of Battle (literally manifest Saints through their faith)

She's obviously going through all possible excuses there. I mean, if none on the imperial side were to blame, then why did they lose? Logically speaking, that must mean that their faith in the Emperor was misplaced, since it didn't help them win. And evem allowing such doubt to enter your mind is ruinous, so Sister is trying to rationalize the tragedy some other way, ANY way, even if she herself knows it's ridiculous. Basically, she's getting through her real test of faith, and her only companion here is a freaking imaginary cadian.

She doesn't know or believes that this is "ridiculous". She actually does believe it. Just like she actually believes that the god-emperor is her guiding shield, otherwise she wouldn't be able to heal her wound caused by that necron weapon. We know this because this is how the warp functions, it only gives you strength when you actually and undoubtedly believe in it

One thing that I loved about the Death Mark vs Astartes scene was the Death Mark's subtle nod after taking the kill shot. I think it was a small acknowledgment of respect.

The marking the Salamanders and the Ultramarines have on their arms/wrist/gaunlets is the symbol/mark of the Indomitus crusade, a lot of the Primaris Marine wear these symbols in the service "veterancy" of the crusade itself.

Yeah the sister has a streak of black hair from a neuron weapon burn. If I remember correctly she also got a hit on her arm that was healed by a miracle of faith.

They sometimes get campy funny in a grim dark way. See when you are an unkillable God of War, the ants outside on your lawn get interesting to pass the time with. Meaning they sometimes mind wipe humans put their necorntry memories in them, rebuild a necorntry city and observe. Reset, rewipe, reset, rewipe. They can even just wipe their minds of the take over and watch them continue on. Or they civilize them, sure you can kill them all, but there's not really fun afterwards aside a dead planet and you get really really bored. Sometimes they set up wars, create zoos, create civilizations, give ants God powers and watch them go crazy, or just rule over them.

I've seen that theory and it makes sense but I saw some clips from other trailers where she's actually fighting, albeit brief, I don't think she's a hallucination but we will for sure know by episode 2 and GW could be trying to throw everyone off to begin with

Sure they fight for the same cause but that's like a guardsman talking to a space marine as if they're buddies. Its.. not something that happens. And, as for Tfb's earlier mention of showing her fighting.. it could be a flashback

Unless its different than normal they were 100% concious. Sometimes the scarabs blunt force your obedience, witch it looks like here, or they just rewrite all of your senses so you do what the necrons want of your own free will.

I don't think the Cadian Guardsman is a hallucination exactly... more like the Sister talking to herself, but shown to us in a visual format. It's a good storytelling method.

Sister of battle is speaking to her own consciences I believe. She suffered very bad head trauma, so I think that is why she doesn’t kill the guardsman. Because it is all in her head and not a real guard speaking to her. At least that is what I think.

As a Salamanders player for both 30 and 40k I am so excited about this series. looks amazing so far!!

12:37 it's subtle but I think the deathmark nods at the dead space marine.

They've canonized the mould lines on the Deathmarks' shoulders lol

I like how the Death Mark sounds almost like the old Lego ad narrator, this series looks brilliantly made so far

Sad to see the 9th edition trailer UM posterboy go down, as a meeting with the salamander could’ve been a cool dynamic in opposing philosophies, one’s duty to protect the lowest of humanity, vs glory against the foes of the imperium, and that could’ve been an awesome juxtaposition for new comers to see. At least now the limelight is fully on the salamanders, a chapter woefully sidelined and at best got cameo mentions each codex, and had pretty mediocre books for them, despite being such a humanised chapter. So excited to see more. One criticism I have tho is the cuts, I get it’s supposed to feel like small chapters of a large book, but it feels like impressive animation show reels stitched together, feels super fast paced and doesn’t allow you to get immersed, arguably such an important facet in a grim dark universe. Hopefully it’s just an ep 1 thing. Looking forward to seeing more Enemy at the Gates in space.

Hi Conner. You've done it again. Nocely explained, and I am actually quite into Necrons, during lockdown I bought the Necrons/ Intersesser starter set (1st plastic and 1st 40k minis). I can recommend reading Indomitus book. Necrons and Primaris Marines. So simce seeing the 1st ads for Pariah Nexus I've been like a kid b4 Xmas, waiting. I agree best WH Tv yet. Keep on "Breaking". ​@@billperry8418it isn't as obvious so either a Scarab latched onto their back or went under the helmet and then embedded itself into the brain taking full control. Like that is obviously terrifying. We saw the horrors of that guardsman in the opening suffering this kriegsman is suffering more.

Her face when the salamander approached us amazing (anger) as she hears the footsteps approaching (disbelief) as the marine come into view (fear/acceptance) as the marine take the final step and blots out the figure she was praying to. The face says it all and it was so good

this episode was amazing. what i always wanted to see from warhammer 40k. froms filthy xenos to sisters of battle. and to give us not ultramarines but salamanders is amazing. melt the xenos!

I love that this shows how good of fighters the Sororitas are while still keeping them mortal. :D Sisters are basically storm troopers in power armour after all, they're as good as un-enhanced humans can get but still just human.

Animation quality is top-notch. Really like wow.

1st, War in haeven was between the Old ones and Necron. Eldar and Krork participate too, but not because they were one of the sides, but because their species (same as miriad of other species, some currently extinct) were created by old ones, as weapons and meatshields. 2nd, True Cadians (born on Cadia, THE realspace planet closest to the EYE OF FRICKIN TERROR), have because of this herritage blue or purple SHINING eyes. The equipment is "Cadian like", but that does not tell anything, because Cadians are considered the best IG regiments, therefore MANY non-Cadian regiments are trained as close as possible to their standards, including equipment and weaponry.

I love that games workshop is producing more high quality animations. Like I wanna sub to Warhammer+ now.

The opening sequence reminded me too much of that scene from NOPE all the screams, well it could be worse I hear the drukhari don’t let you die and if you fall into the hands of any of the chaos warbands god forbid the emperors children

The symbol on the space marines armor is the indomitus campaign badge saying he was one of the primarus marines who fought with gulliman and was possibly even one of the unnumbered sons

What cracks me up is that the infected Krieg are, literally audibly saying "God Emperor, why?" and "Give me strength." The one approached by the sister of battle is muttering about "one last charge" and "redeem me at last". All of which, is terrifying. The others? They are merely screaming, in unintelligable. Every kriegsman, including the one we see in engineer's fatigues has visible tangible hesitation to attack a sister of battle. First at 21:47, where he is seen gripping his head, and briefly shaking it 'no', as he struggles to fight against the internal message of "fight the sister". And then once more, as he is the only soldier to get within a considerably close distance, at which point the other soldiers at similar distance raise their arms or make swings at the sister, but he stands stock still, rooting his feet in place, arms at his side. The krieg. Are terrifyingly loyal, and the fact that this one soldier is depicted as having a resistance against the scarab is just... so fucking metal, and so fucking krieg.

Past 50k! Well done Conor!!

No way can the Sister take on a Sargeant of an Ultramarine chapter, even if zombified. They are too damn faster, stronger and durable than her.

They're better yes but the difference is not as much as between a space marine and the guard. Iirc during the age of apostasy the sisters of battle held back several chapters of space marine including the Black Templars. They die often in the fight but they don't die easy. I wouldn't favour guards in lore in a fight 100-1 against a space marine. If the space marine is against sisters I feel like 10-1 is reasonably good odds for the sisters although the odds of them all surviving would be low enough to count as divine intervention. 1v1 the sister is probably dead yes but it's also possible we haven't seen the Sister's full wargear yet if she was confident in handling the Kriegers so she may have the universal equaliser of grenades. (There is also the narrative angle where all parties know the sister is the lesser threat so it's possible a wandering Deathmark would take the shot at the marine first.)

The Cadian is a delision? I guess that makes sense. I was wondering when I first watched this why the Sister didn't kill her for her heretical speech.

I now understand my incredulity at the Guard. Where is their Las-rifle!?! This is no Imperial Guard. No Guard would be caught dead without their weapon.

The guard sounds like a demon trying to turn the SoB.
