NEC Classic Motor Show 2023 part 1 (featuring Renault).

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show is held over three days every November at the National Exhibition Centre near Birmingham, England.
Thousands of visitors attend every year to see the six huge exhibition halls full of classic vehicles spanning decades and many manufacturers, some of whom are long since out of production.
Many KZread creators will attempt to capture the event in full but few will manage to include every vehicle and certainly not in great detail.
In this first video instalment of the 2023 event the focus is on Renault including the cars of The Renault Owners Club and Renault classic car club stand as well as a look at Twingo which is marking 30 years since launch. There is also a brief look at the Alpine stand though for a more comprehensive look a broader range of models I suggest you may like to watch to video from last years event which also featured the Renault 5 at 50 years old.

You beat me to it Mark, I’m still editing! We had an R10 when I was born, but the first car I remember is the red R12 that succeeded it. Really enjoyed the Renault Car Club stand - I should probably join.

I've still got footage from the other French car club stands to edit but I dare say it may be next week before I get the opportunity to complete the next installment. I need to see what gaos are in my footage too as I had a few technical issues as well as a busy exhibition centre not necessarily being the easiest place to produce a quality video. Links to both of the Renault Clubs (of which I'm a member of both) are listed in the video description however, if you need to know anything else feel free to drop me a message and I'll get back to you later.

Enjoyed that Mark, thanks, It took me down memory lane, I used to sell loads of 16's, 12's, 4's, 6's,15's, 17's, including a Gordini 17. The 16 in particular was one of the most comfortable cars I have ever driven, loved the precise column change and the seats were something else ! Such a practical and versatile car. They could do a very high mileage and still drive superbly, unlike a lot of other cars of this era. Maybe try one, one day and do a report on this channel, I think you will be impressed.

Thank you. Yes I'd love to film a review out on the road in one of these cars if the opportunity were to present itself. I have filmed some car reviews on other vehicles. These are also a number of videos of various Renault and French car events already in the channel. There will be more videos from the NEC to come very soon featuring other french classics.

As an outsider to Renault its great to get more details from your interviews. I remeber the 16 from my youth, the hatch design and the whole of the look is stunning. Great wrok as always 👍

Thank you, I hope you enjoyed the show? There is so much to see at the NEC. Some of these Renault's are before my time so even as a life long fan of the brand I'm still learning. The 16 is still a stylish car as well as a very interesting car from a technical standpoint. The 8 and 12 I'm still finding out new info about such as the fact that both were car of the year in Australia as well as the R12 successfully competing there against more powerful cars in the rallycross circuit.

Greetings from New Zealand. Im in my sixties, and remember the Renault cars being assembled here. Not many were though , the Renault Dauphine , and 10 was , and the Renault 12 too. The Renault 5 , 6 , werent released on our NZ car market. The Renault 16 was brought in in limited numbers and the 17 as well. Later the Renault 30 was released. My father had friend in the 1960s/70s that wasxa mechanic who worked on them. Interesting video Thanks from Carl.

Thank you. I'm.not sure about New Zealand but cars did find their way out east. Australia still has a vibrant Renault community, even though the brand was pulled out of that market for a few years in the 1990's. Some countries such as the Philippines had importers who sold limited numbers but I don't think.European cars were ever as popular as those from Japan, Korea, Malaysia or homegrown models. It's interesting to hear about the history of some of these vehicles in other parts of the world.

@markonmotoring Thanks for your reply. I lived and worked in Sydney Australia in the 1990s. European cars are scarce there. Renault are still sold hear today. I like the Renault 16. It's my favorite.

Great video Mark, love the R8, never knew about the unconventional spare wheel location. I saw the R12 and it was in exceptional condition. I couldn’t decide if the R4 pickup was a factory conversion or not, thanks for clarifying! Who doesn’t love a Twingo? Great it’s going to be back in production again, albeit as an EV.

Thanks Simon. I didn't know about that slate wheel location until recently. I really like the R8 as it seems to have that certain charm. Peters R12 is in exceptionally nice condition considering the car dies get used. The Twingo really has gained a strong following in recent years much like the R4. Who only knows if a new 4EV will make production and if it will retain any of the charm of the original.

I was very interested in this, as the Twingo is an option for me once Dino returns to the lease company. Obviously, no car is perfect and it would be great to hear what quirks are evident in these really cute cars

I recently interviewed an owner at an event who recently imported a MK1 Twingo into the UK. There were also other Twingo attending the event too. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nqqhu9qidKSZeNI.html
