Nebraska's Spring Game Shocked Me | Nebraska Football 2024
Спорт
Nebraska's spring game was a massive success yesterday, with the White Team defeating the Red Team by a score of 25 to 21 and over 60,000 Cornhusker fans attending the event. What shocked me was how great the quarterback room looked, particularly Dylan Raiola and Heinrich Haarberg. They were accurate and aware the whole game and their offensive teammates expected well on their blocks, catches, and runs. While the defense had several starters out, Tony White's unit still performed well, especially in the trenches. We talk about all of this and more in this episode of College Football with Sam. 7 wins at a minimum
Bob Wager getting a DUI might be the best thing that happened to this team because in one spring with Glenn Thomas, Haarberg has gone from a giant running back tossing the ball around the backyard with little to no feel for the pocket to a actual real QB who can step up in the pocket and make some darn good throws.
my takeaway is they have breathed life into the monster GBR

@@collegefootballwithsam I know, I watch your Nebraska videos and the ones with Conner, it’s great you keep it real with all your intakes on the Huskers. And as a husker fan, we want to believe that this 2nd year team is better than last year. We have the coach, the staff and the talent in all positions. So we’ll see what’s in store for this season. Oline looked vastly improved, WRs looked decent with Lloyd looking primed for a breakout season. Open field tackling was good. Emmet Johnson looked much better than last year. Dowdell and mazouka looked decent so we have depth at RB. Lack of Dline depth with ty and Nash not on the field was very noticable so if either get injured it may be a problem since the 3-3-5 relies on big dudes in the middle to stop the run. Special teams was concerning.

Recruiting is the blood of college football
@collegefootballwithsam
Ай бұрын
I would argue development is the lifeblood of college football and recruiting is weight training and nutrition. Weight training and nutrition do not matter if you have no blood (no development) but they help a ton if you are alive and able to move (good developmental staff that recruit well win championships).

@@collegefootballwithsam No program has won a national championship without signing at least one top 10 recruiting class in the four years leading up to and including their appearance in the national championship game since the beginning of the 247Sports Composite in 2001…development matters but recruiting matters even more
I'd say it may have had something to do with a defense which is retooling and was missing a bunch of players.
Thank you. Nice take. 💯 GBR

Babe new Sam just dropped
I just know as a Husker fan to never get my hopes up. Go Big Red.
I'll have to watch. I won't run my mouth until after.
Nebraska’s offense could end up the most improved unit in the country this year. I could see them going from like rank # 105 to about rank # 35. I bet the defensive unit steps back a tad from like #15 to rank #20. The team overall should be way better, but a brutal 2nd half schedule means still probably 7 wins. Then in year 3 of Rhule hopefully ready for the 8-9 win area.
Lets see...toughest games on the schedule Colorado: if we are half as dominant on defense, i think we can walk away with that one. Last year our defense just had to put up with constant turnovers, until they were finally gassed. With the addition of Dante Dowdell and Raiola, i think we can put up reliable points. I think Rutgers will cruise to a good record, without actually being super good, especially with their QB situation. Depending on how the OSU offense reloads and how well our offense performs in Raiolas first year, this game could be a blowout or a close upset. I believe USC is in for a rude awakening, Lincoln Riley in particular. Hes going to wish hed bothered with a defense. I also think they might struggle to reload on offense, despite Moss's performance in their bowl game. ACC defenses just arent impressive enough. If wiscy can have a reliable pass game and improve on defense, they could be dangerous Iowa will never not be a hard game Very hard to accurately gauge a lot of these teams. Our biggest challenge, OSU, loses a starting QB and generational WR, as well as ever reliable cade stover and two cornerstones on defense. Meanwhile, our spring game was played without a few big players on defense, not to mention, it's still just a spring game. I'm happy with 8 wins, but given all the variables, the stars could align for a monumental shake up
The Huskers will be in the college football playoff this season
My absolute bare minimum this 2024 season is we go bowling, 6-6. My expectation is 9-3 given that OSU is a definite loss and throw in 2 wild cards we may drop throughout the season given our track record the past 7 years. And an absolutely amazing season is 11-1 and we cap it off with a win in the B1G championship and win our bowl game against an SEC opponent. One can dream
Oct 26th, ouch..!
The amount of one score losses in the last several years is mind boggling. There's more talent on the team than they get credit for because of the W/L record.

But yeah... Sure... talent doesn't matter. I know Michigan fans are getting a bit nutty with the NCAA stuff, but I would have thought winning a championship (for now) would have curbed the delusion.

Raiola said he flipped to Nebraska because his heart was here. His dad was an all American here and has his name posted in the stadium, his uncle is our offensive line coach. The other story is that he decommitted from OSU because they brought another QB in the same recruiting class, and then flipped from UGA when Carson Beck returned because he wanted to go somewhere that he had a chance to play right away. Nebraska had a top-15 defense last year with almost everyone returning. We also have a deep WR room with some young talent that should make strides this year, a good RB room and an o line that has 7 players that account for 150+ starts. We were 5-7 last year with 5 losses by 3 or less points. While we were also the worst team in the country when it came to turnovers (mostly from our horrendous QB play) and devastated by injury. At one point last year, 8 of the 11 starters on offense were underclassmen. And still, if we could've been 3 points better every week, we would've had 10 wins. That's why having Raiola is such a huge deal for Nebraska.
