Paroles: Ne me quitte pas Il faut oublier Tout peut s'oublier Qui s'enfuit déjà Oublier le temps Des malentendus Et le temps perdu À savoir comment Oublier ces heures Qui tuaient parfois À coups de pourquoi Le cœur du bonheur Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Moi, je t'offrirai Des perles de pluie Venues de pays Où il ne pleut pas Je creuserai la terre Jusqu'après ma mort Pour couvrir ton corps D'or et de lumière Je ferai un domaine Où l'amour sera roi Où l'amour sera loi Où tu seras reine Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Je t'inventerai Des mots insensés Que tu comprendras Je te parlerai De ces amants-là Qui ont vu deux fois Leurs cœurs s'embraser Je te raconterai L'histoire de ce roi Mort de n'avoir pas Pu te rencontrer Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas On a vu souvent Rejaillir le feu De l'ancien volcan Qu'on croyait trop vieux Il est, paraît-il Des terres brûlées Donnant plus de blé Qu'un meilleur avril Et quand vient le soir Pour qu'un ciel flamboie Le rouge et le noir Ne s'épousent-ils pas? Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Je ne vais plus pleurer Je ne vais plus parler Je me cacherai là À te regarder Danser et sourire Et à t'écouter Chanter et puis rire Laisse-moi devenir L'ombre de ton ombre L'ombre de ta main L'ombre de ton chien Mais Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas

I found this song, this exact same video when I was 16 years old (not even sure how, I just stumble onto this vid by accident) and even though I didn't understood the lyrics back then, I was amaze by how much emotion Jacques Brel pour into this song. So I decide to look for more songs of Jacques and I found "La Chanson Des Vieux Amants" and when I looked for both lyrics I realized they were heartbreaking, unforgettable and quite unique, and I thought "I hope I never feel this way in the future". Three years later I met the love of my life, with whom I've been in an Off and On relationship for so many years... I'll be 28 in a few weeks, and after all these years with her, I can said with some certainty, that I understand the true meaning of these songs, and it hurts. Cecy, if you ever read this, even though that we only hurt each other, I just wanted you to know, that I wish you happiness in your life. You'll always be the love of my life, and the reason why Jacques Brel means the world to me.

Des mots insensés : Words that make no sense. 4. Rejaillir le feu = fire reborn. 5. Qu'on croyait trop vieux / that we thought was too old. 6. Il est paraît-il / There is, it seems. 7. Pour qu'un ciel flamboie / For a sky to get ablaze. 8. The red and the black needs to marry. Very sad beautiful difficult song to translate! But bravo!

Jacques said in his interview that he don't know what is an artist and talent .. Art and talent don't exist .. he said that the main purpose of life is making your dreams to become true and is what he worked hard for .. The talent is just working as hard as you can to make your dream become true .. Such an inspiring man .. Your song , your voice , your face and emotions really bring me to a different dimension ..Thank you Jacques and Rest in peace ..

This man has SOUL, my Haitian friends told me of him long ago and now that I have actually heard him, I can see I have only lived half my life. Such Tour De Force no wonder Juliette Greco admired and covered his songs!

Cantar chorando sem desafinar, eu já tinha visto a Elis Regina. E agora, essa versão de Ne me quitte pas, por Jacques Brel, simplesmente a melhor. A MELHOR.

Voce pode olhar esse habilidade também na cantora peruana chamada Lucha Reyes em músicas como "Una carta al Cielo" o "Mi última canción". Recomendadísima. Saudações do Peru.

little known fact - "ne me quitte pas!" was also what he was yelling from the top of his lungs as he ran after a bus to get to the show, but wasn't able to catch up to it - always leaving within seconds before he could reach it. luckily, despite the demonic humidity and heat of that Paris day, he marathoned himself 12 miles to the show, bursting onto stage at the last second to perform this song.

Without a doubt the most emotionally charged performance of this song by Jacques Brel ( or anyone for that matter ). It is the best I've ever heard. I love it.

Jacques Brel é mais que um cantor, é um artista. Além de cantar com perfeição, emociona. Simplesmente incrível essa interpretação. Palmas e mais palmas.
