You were right about the fact that Black on Black is more of a performance track than a traditional song to listen to. It was just to showcase all the members dancing and performing together!

fun fact: the deep voice saying “resonate” is jisung @ 14:25 he was also at the center of the v formation in black on black leading 17 members at only 16 !!!! they did a spoiler of it the year they debuted so he lead them all when he was 14 as well, truly a main dancer since birth

taeyong does a lot of vocal fry, that's the technique that makes his voice sound like what you described in 1:52 also i feel your struggle to pick a bias lol i have a top 5 (taeyong, taeil, xiaojun, jaehyun and hendery) but i can't really pick an actual bias

Mine was Yuta, Taeyong,Ten,Jeno, Jaeyhun, and Haechan then everyone else slowly wrecks me so I gave up lol 🤭

Yesss I was so excited for this! These 2 performances are so awesome and epic. First I just want to correct that the first center you noticed but couldn't figure out was Jisung not Ten. He was only 16 years old at the time leading his 17 hyungs and it was such a moment. All the centers for "Black On Black" are Taeyong, Mark, Jisung, Jeno, Yuta, Ten, and Lucas. There was a total of 18 members of NCT the time (XiaoHenYang and therefore WayV came in 2019 and Sungtaro in 2020). These songs are meant for one main purpose and that's performance, it's why they're kinda more jarring to listen to as their primary goal is to display NCT's full power on the stage. They're not supposed to be necessarily audibly pleasing, they're real songs of course, but the only people who really enjoy listening to these just to listen to are nctzens lmao. "Resonance" was 100% used for the end of the year award shows (NCT's full 23 minute MAMA 2020 stage NEEDS to be watched okay!) and "BoB" was also performed on award shows. The gaps between the years is because these year projects aren't generally supposed to happen every year, each of these performances came with a collective group album that year. "Black On Black" was 2018's Empathy album and "Resonance" was 2020's Resonance album. The year in between gives them time for the units to focus on promoting alone. Of course there is plans for NCT 2021 to happen this year instead of 2022 which ruins that flow, but time will tell how the pattern creates itself in the future. Yes what you noted about Taeyong's voice is called a vocal fry and is somewhat of a signature for Taeyong, but he has a lot of versatility in his rapping and on b-sides and solo work especially you'll notice him do a lot of different switches to his voice, tone and flow. He's so talented. What's different about "Resonance" is that SM basically switches up the idea for their performance song. The performance song is supposed to represent NCT as a whole and this was the better choice to adequately showcase every member of the group (likely as a result of valid complaints of line distribution made by fans after "BoB") as well the promoted album at the time, by mashing up songs that all members participated on. The 4 songs that make up "Resonance" are "Make A Wish", "90s Love", "Work It", and "Raise the Roof". "Raise the Roof" is used as the chorus here and is a b-side off the Resonance album. All 4 songs were actually prepped for this mashup ahead of time by all having the same chord progression or structure in some way (idk terminology so correct me if I'm wrong of course) to make the mash-up flow better, which I think it does perfectly. There were all 23 at this time. I absolutely agree on Shotaro smh he and Sungchan are actually on other songs on the Resonance album and they have some vlogs on the NCT channel so definitely check that out for more of them, but yeah either way they need to be in a unit so we can get more of them. It's okay to have more than 1 bias lmao most nctzens have at least 3 for each unit (I have 4 Taeyong, Kun, Jeno and Shotaro) so you're good, but I'm glad you've accepted Jaehyun as the 127 bias at least. "Resonance" was actually filmed in an arena it's epic! You've gotta watch their "Uncut" behind the scenes for the filming of the Resonance mv and dance practice because it's fun seeing them goof off with all 23 of them hanging around backstage lol and also when Ten kicks your face in the mv he actually legitimately kicked the camera on accident and it's fun to watch in the behind clips.

I agree with you on the bias thing. When you are just getting into a group, we really can't help but get attracted at first to the members' physical features. But as we get to know them more, other aspects come to play like their talent, their different personalities, and etc. Taeyong is my first ever bias and he still is. But there are soooooo many bias wreckers in NCT lol. They all are, tbh.

My biases for the whole group are Taeyoung Mark (Rappers)Ten(and wrecker) Haechan Doyoung (vocals)

In a group of 23, it's perfectly acceptable to have a few biases AND bias wreckers... 😄 For me, I'm pretty firm in that Ten is my ult... but when it comes to NCT, every single one of them has wrecked me at some point... so Bias: TEN, Wrecker: OT22. Also, the term for the voice effect that TY sometimes employs is called 'vocal fry'.

The one dancing in the center in the beginning for the v formation is Jisung the maknae. The Resonance era was when Jisung also injured his knee so he wasn't really present in this era. Its also the reason why they only showed him at the beginning of resonance. Also its fine to have more than one bias in NCT. I mean i've been stanning NCT for like 4 years now and i still dont have a bias.

If you watch the making of Resonance, you'll see that Ten actually did kick the camera (accidentally ofc) and then they used it in the mv. LOLOLOL

Black on Black was released in 2018 including every member of NCT. At that time there were total 18 members. Members who joined after NCT 2018 are Hendery, Yangyang, Xiaojun (debuted in 2019), Shotaro & Sungchan (debuted last year) Lastly you can see that all the 23 members are there in RESONANCE MV (NCT2020).

Both are pretty much a way to show off NCT as a whole. Black on Black started as a performance piece, which was part of their MAMA 2016 stage and evolved into their first whole group-song. And while it's a track on the Empathy album (and pretty much a banger), the dancing is the centerpiece and I do believe the music was created to accent the dance! Resonance is a mash-up of all the dance-worthy title tracks of the Resonance album, plus the b-side track Raise the Roof - again to show off their impressive roster, but this time also showing off their vocals more. It's pretty much something only NCT can do and it's a nice way to let the group really come together, for the fans and for the boys themselves as well.

Yay, I am glad someone mentioned their 2016 stage. It was definitely a dance performance piece for that show and more dancers than NCT took part. I believe it was subtitled 'Dance Connection' at the time?

You don't pick your bias in NCT, your bias picks you. 🥴 TaeYong is my ultimate bias but right now the rest of the 22 members are bias wreckers, so, don't stress about that 😉

I love how right after you said you weren't sure Jaehyun is your bias he comes out at the end between 22 other men like... sure about that? Anyways, your bias chooses you! For me? Jaehyun, Jungwoo and Yuta are equally my bias in NCT... I truly can't choose and love them equally. But NCT is just a boatload of wreckers and it's wonderful.

Fun Fact Ten actually fully kicked that camera on accident but it looked good so they kept the footage. Resonance is a mash up of Make a Wish, 90's Love, Work it and Raise the Roof. All which are on the Resonance Album.

Taeyong vocal/rap is real. You'll find that out from NCT Uncut , their recording process in the studio. It also shows how good their vocals are.

Yes, the level of talent in NCT is insane. But when you really think about it, think of the level of telent SM Entertainment has as a whole. That is why SM commands the top spot and why it's one of the big 3 entertainment companies in Korea and around the world. We wouldn't expect anything less than top talent. And just think, there are dozens of more trainees, just waiting to debut. SM cultivates talent. And that is why the company has become known as a powerhouse for vocals and dancing skills. All of its artist are super multi-talented. You know someone must be extra special if they are part of SM. You can't even debut as an SM artist without having superior vocals and/or dance skills, that's just the criteria for being an SM artist. :D SM Entertaiment is the founder of everything we know of as Kpop today and they have some of the most legendary and talented groups. SM's talent is really never ending. Which is even more mind blowing when you think of everyone who is under SM, such as Super Junior who had 15 members, Girls Generation had 9 members, EXO had 12 members, plus all the company's smaller groups -- TVXQ, SHINee, F(x), Red Velvet, TraxX, BoA, SuperM, etc. and all of these groups are known for having some of the best singers, dancers and performers. NCT-2018 was a special project created by SM Entertainment in 2018 because, at the time, there were 18 members in NCT and SM thought it was a cool contrast that the number of members reflects the year. (Kun -- the leader of WayV -- debuted as a member of NCT-2018 and he was the one that was added to the group to make them equal 18 members.) So they created this performance for "Black on Black" to highlight NCT. All of NCT's members are part of this performance, except YangYang, Hendery and Xiaojun because they had not debuted until 2019 when WayV was created; and SungChan and Shotaro didn't debut until "Resonance" in 2020. This is a special performance MV so it is designed to highlight the group's dance skills, it's not really about the song. ("Black on Black" is a b-side track from NCT's Empathy album that actually only features Taeyong, Mark and Lucas in the song.)This performance just highlights another aspect of what makes NCT so talented. If I remember correctly, they actually debuted this performance as a special live stage showcase, before the MV was released, or maybe in tandem with the MV. So they can do all this live, too. You should also check out the dance practice to see the choreography even better. Taeyong is the official leader of NCT, so no matter what sub-unit you are talking about, he is the leader of everyone (Although, Kun is the leader of WayV and Mark is the captain of NCT-Dream. They all defer to Taeyong as the leader when they are all together.) Taeyong has a prominent role in almost everything they do. Plus, as you know, he is one of NCT's best dancers, he is a main rapper and he is a songwriter and producer. Because Taeyong is so multi-talented SM features him a lot in its projects, either within NCT or even outside of the group. Some even say that Taeyong and Mark are SM's favorite NCT members because they get the most parts in every project. But Taeyong stands out because he has that leader quality that makes the leader of Kpop groups different then the other members. Leaders are just born to be leaders, and Taeyong is a good example of that. Fun fact: If you notice, when Mark first appears in the beginning, when he jumps over Taeyong, etc., he says, " ... NCT, we the dream team ..." NCT's whole group concept is all centered around dreams and dreaming, so they as a whole are the team that is all about dreams. And the blond guy in the center in the middle of the dance break section -- the one with the skills at popping -- was Jisung. Jisung is the maknae (youngest) of the whole NCT group and he is one of their best dancers. He debuted with NCT-Dream when he was only 14 and he is known for potentially becoming Taemin's carbon copy. Jisung and Taemin are a lot alike. They both took similar paths as trainees with SM (both became trainees when they were around 11 years old), they both gave up their childhood to chase their dream as a dancer and performer, they both debuted when they were 14 and they have similar dance styles and personalities, etc. Jisung idolizes Taemin and Taemin says he sees his younger self in Jisung. As you noticed, Lucas was the rapper in the middle of the performance who told us to "freeze!!!", who was kneeling in front during the part where they were standing on each other. (Lucas debted as a member of NCT-U in their "Boss" MV which came out a few months before "Black on Black" in 2018. He was a member of NCT-U first before becoming a member of WayV.) Ten is THE Soloist in NCT. He has the most solo projects of any of the members because he is their best/most skilled main dancer and he has beautiful vocals, so SM has given Ten a lot of solo songs and projects over the years. And that is why he was highlighted in this performance. Notice how the majority of the members who were the centers of this performance are also members of SuperM -- Taeyong, Mark, Ten and Lucas. And that is why SM chose them to be a part of that group, because they are the members of NCT who are some of the most talented, most popular and the ones that have that undefinable "it" factor.

This reaction was great! It was so smart to do them back to back! This showed me that yeah, we got some Johnny leather pants butt shots in both MVs. 2021 let's get it, LMAO! You're right it's suppose to just showcase all the members, and just be good for year end award shows. Sad fact about "Black on Black" is that that was Kun's actual MV debut... "Resonance" fixed a lot of "Black on Black" problems, like combining all the NCT U songs, and adding in "Raise the Roof" really made it a better performance piece for year end awards! That gives them a chance to showcase so much, and then have their other performances be a ballad and the other unit songs. So while people may complain about the way it was mash-up, it makes the most sense to do in that aspect, and it's cool as hell! And aww, yeah can have an ult bias, and then biases and bias wreckers. It's okay if Jaehyun is your ult bias, out of all the 23, and then you have other biases. You smiled the most when Jaehyun came up, the same way I do with Johnny, LOL!

Yeah, I can understand you..imma say almost all of kpoper experiencing it. First time getting know about nct, Jaehyun caught my eye first.its kinda like love at the first sight but shortly after knowing other members, Johnny seems very attractive to me..after that Doyoung got my attention cuz of his voice, and it continues like that to other members as well. Now they're all my bias cz it's hella difficult to pick just 1or 2 members cz they shined in different ways.

Johnny got the YAMS he thicc!! And Jaehyun voice sounds like unconditional love! Yuta is a whole demon that will hypnosis you with sweetness and somebody tell Mark to stop being black! he so swaggy with his Canadian azz lmao!! NCT could be the whole Kpop genre by themselves and nobody else I'd be satisfied.

Yes, NCT 2020's "Resonance" MV is a mashup of 4 songs from their Resonance album -- “Make A Wish (Birthday Song),” “Raise The Roof,” “90’s Love,” and “Work It.” It keeps switching up because it's not the same song. "Raise the Roof" features all 23 members and the other 3 songs -- which each also have an MV -- feature the members who participate in that track on the album. "Resonance" was a special project that NCT did in 2020 to introduce their two newest members. This project was a sort of continuation of "Black on Black's" performance concept. With "Black on Black" NCT-2018 had 18 members and then in 2019 they introduced 3 new members to the group when they debuted WayV which made the group 21 members strong. And then in 2020 they introduced 2 new members Shotaro and Sungchan. So now NCT has 23 members and Taeyong now has 22 children to take care of. When Sunchan and Shotoro were introduced SM said that they would become members of a new NCT sub-unit, so now we are waiting to see who will be a part of the new unit and what the unit's concept will be. NCT is a very international group. The members as a whole currently represent 9 different countries and they speak 8 different languages. For example, there are 10 native Korean members (Taeyong, Doyoung, Taeil, Haechan, Jaehyun, Jeno, Jaemin, Jisung, Jungwoo, and SungChan), Mark is Korean-Canadian, Johnny is Korean-American, Yuta and Shotaro are Japanese, Ten is Thai, Lucas is Chinese-Thai from Hong Kong, YangYang is Taiwanese but he grew up in Germany, Hendery is Chinese from Macau (China) and 5 mainland Chinese members (WinWin, Kun, Xiaojun, Renjun and Chenle). There are 13 members who aren't even from Korea and 11 of them have no Korean heritage. NCT is a group with an infinite number of members and an ever growing number of sub-units. It has been said that SM has an unknown number trainees who are waiting in the wings to someday debut as members of NCT. Right now, SM's plan is to make NCT the group that never ends and never stops growing and expanding until they have a sub-unit representing every major city in every country in the world. Your bias will choose you. You just got started. At first, I couldn't choose. Then I chose Mark. After a few months, Haechan was like "Pssst, Hey...Yeah, You! Come on over here". I been rocking with him ever since. Taeyong and Jaemin became my wreckers and my backup wrecker line is Jaehyun, Taeil, Jisung, Kun and Yuta just joined. Xiaojun keep giving me the eye but we'll see.

For me jaehyun is my bias in whole nct until now.. its not hard for me to choose because the first time i see jaehyun im like okay he s the one..he s total package and i love him even more when it comes to personality..im happy when other kpop idols praise him not only because of his looks but also about how good person is he..top of that his my ideal type...he s a boyfriend material 😍😍 By the way i like your reaction to nct especially to jae..

Jaehyun has the same effect on me as he does to you where i was completely mesmerized the first time i saw him & as i got more into their contents and personalities, i definitely found alot other members attractive as well in many other ways. But i still end up looking out or getting slapped in the face when i see jaehyun lmao sooooo i think it’s safe to say for me that he is my bias😂 though i have a HUGE soft spot for mark taeyong ten winwin xiaojun haechan etc HAHAHAHHAHA But dont worry about whoever your bias is!! There’s no rule to it😂 it’s completely fine whoever you are drawn towards whether it changes from time to time or not. That’s how i am with EXO actually😂

It’s the exact same for me! First time seeing Jaehyun was a slap in the face. Then I learned about all their personalities and they ALL have a soft spot in my heart. I fell even more in love with Jae. He will always be my NCT ult. He’s just so…idk literally has me in a tight chokehold I can not escape.

The one on the front is Jisung 3:07 and he is the maknae of NCT (2002) ,he was 17 in that video. I prefer the dance practice video because the song is performance/dance based. The more you listen, the more it sounds attractive,probably will not like it much during 1ST few listens

the process of a bias was correct lol but its funny because for me, taeyong caught me at first and i didnt really think jaehyun was that fine. he mostly got me with his personality in the end. i often describe him as the soft pillow u lay your head on after a rough day. thats jaehyun for me. hes so soft and quiet and when he smiles it makes me warm inside

In Black on black there is no Yangyang, Xiaojun, Hendery, Sungchan and Shotaro cause at that time they hadn't debuted yet, When WayV debuted in 2019 Xiaojun, Yangyang and Hendery also debuted as new NCT members, then in 2020 Shotaro and Sungchan dubuted as new members of NCT. Also NCT 2021 will happen this year so probably new member(s) will debut with NCT 2021

Yeah Black on Black isn't really a song its more just a performance video. Also that was Jisung in the front during Black on Black. And then Ten did the dance break. Also fun fact about Resonance in the part where Ten kicks at the camera when you watch the behind the scenes making of this mv Ten actually did kick the camera. And at the end of Resonance the members spelled out NCT using their bodies lol.

Plot twist: If Jaehyun is the bias... then Johnny is the bias wrecker. 😆 👀 Johnny with long hair is a problem. So was that body roll in Resonance.

People seeing Yuta the reactions are always He's super handsome, or he looks crazy in the eyes or both XD Our Maknae Jisung was leading them in the middle of Black on Black . His hair was platinum, Ten's had a blue tint. When they do the massive group projects they're usually to highlight/announce the albums they're about to put out as NCT, which houses the NCT U and some unit tracks. Looking forward to whatever they might have planned for NCT 2022. It took a while for Ten and Kun to become part of unit so I have no idea when SungChan and Shotaro are going to get one.

I feel like it's definitely normal not to have a bias in NCT xD most of us have at least 2 top members

Watch the dance pratice behind of this 2, its really cool see how they put it together. Yes its actually songs that are on the albums, Black on black in NCT:Empathy and Resonance in NCT:Resonance, both albums that put them all together (Shotaro and Sungchan join in Resonance era and still don’t have unit... just hope they don’t do it like Ten and Kun that pass 2 years without unit until WayV debut)

well I first got to know NCT because of Mark and Jaehyun on the Korean Englishman video (you should watch it if you haven't) then I watched 127 hit Miami and damn Jaehyun looks amazing so I went to listen to their music and listened to Regular and my life has never been the same, after getting to know the members now I Ult Johnny, Taeyong and Shotaro as like overall ults in NCT (Yes you can have multiple ones lol) but I mean Jaehyun is a big wrecker for me, I love him so much, hes so talented and gorgeous and funny and super transparent, how can someone not love him? but yessss you will probably end up ulting Johnny and Jaehyun :D they're super besties so its impossible not to if Johnny is already coming for you.

Black on Black is my favorite performance mv ever at one point I use to watch that video daily. And the Resonance mash up song its freaking so good too. So Resonance is a apart of NCT 2020 and is mash up of obviously Make A Wish, 90s Love and Work it but also the song Raise the Roof which was another song off the Resonance 2020 album. And Black on Black was part of NCT 2018 when they was only 18 members. The members came together to make the Empathy album and we got this performance mv out of it and a bunch of other amazing songs. Oh and no there was none in the middle you missed. I think its supposed to be a like ever 2 year thing. I know there was talk of a NCT 2021 but not sure if that will still happen or not.

It’s okay, you can have more than one bias in a group/subunit, especially because there are many of them :) Jaehyun can be your ultimate bias and Johnny a bias Taeyong is my utt in 127 but since Yuta always catches my attention he’s now a bias

Black on Black is definitely a real song but it's true that it's to showcase the performance. I still jam to it in my car though. Jisung, the Maknae was the blonde boy in the center. He was only 16 yo 🥰☺

I definitely recommend watching the dance practice for Black on Black, you can sort of see faces better, and in my opinion... I think they actually performed the dance better in the practice. Which may not be a popular opinion, but I feel like the some of their costumes and the slippery-ness of their boots on the white floor made some of them seem a little more cautious and careful with their movements. They go really full out in the dance practice, and as a dancer I know how difficult it can be to do that if you're worried about slipping or if your costume restricts movement. :)

I'll say this about the bias thing. So for NCT I'm OT23 cuz I just love this group so freaking much but Jaehyun is my overall Ult Bias for NCT. So I have a ult bias and then biases. If that makes any since. So yeah I understand cuz you know its Jaehyun.

I feel like as far as biases go for NCT as a whole, you’re going to have multiple. I have it broken down: Taeyong (main NCT ult / 127), Jaemin Dream, Kun WayV. Of course the wreckers are Johnny, Jeno and Xiaojun.

I think Jaehyun Xiaojun Taeyong Johnny Ten and Jaemin are ur overall faves .Welcome to club of having multiple biases .

While both of them are NCT songs Black on Black is more of a performance track (they even promoted with it) while Resonance is a mash up of 4 of their songs (this gives many members a chance to sing but not all of them do). Another fun fact is that they actually performed a different version of Black on Black back in 2016!

I feel you on what your were saying abt biases. The person that I found most attractive at first, is literally NEVER my bias and usually not even a wrecker for me-

I don't know if you've already seen it, but if you haven't you should see NCT 127 irregular office and nct 127 yearbook # 2, also Wayv feel the v and see the v, you are going to freak out, they are wonderful. They are teaser that they released for nct 2018 and Weyv's debut. They are iconic for me.

The first one at the front you said you couldn't recognize was Jisung! And then Ten did the solo. In Black on Black there were 18 members which was the number of NCT members at the time. And Resonance had all current 23 members. Also fun fact in that scene with Ten kicking the camera he actually kicked it!! You should watch the behind the scenes for both videos they are fun!!

yea black on black and resonance were mainly made just to be for big performance stages at end of the year award shows in 2018 and 2020. basically SM's way of showing off to the rest of kpop just how grand the nct concept can be

Even you didn't say it before but I knew who is your bias from the first of yr NCT's reaction I watched, the way you smile when Jaehyun show up. And It's okay if you're not sure about the bias. Why is just one? I changed my bias almost every comeback (every units) 😂

Ofc jaehyun is your bias RJ, you just got wrecked by most everyone of the members. And it's OK, it's a common problem as NCTzen...a happy problem 😅

there is another song in resonance. it's raise the roof and it's on the resonance pt 2 album. it's amazing and if you have time, you really should check out the album. all bops istg. also, don't sweat having just one bias in nct, it's impossible to have just one bias in a group of 23 gorgeous and talented men anyway so if johnny or other guys call out to you don't be afraid to answer the call ehehehehe besides, someone will always wreck your bias list every comeback so it's more fun to just enjoy them as they come lol

I understand you! When I joined the fandom Jaehyun was my first "bias". But after seeing more about the moments and personalities I realized that he is very introverted and rarely shows any sign of life on social media. So I became Kun utted, but I still love Jaehyun so much.

Understandable! With a concept like NCT, there might be new bias joining to dethrone others too. But they’re all lovable and talented. I can’t say Jaehyun isn’t my bias (I think) but 75% of the time, it feels like it so that’s why I enjoy reactions because it’s a huge mood whenever he shows up.

In NCT 2018 there were only 18 members at that time so that means Xiao Jun , Hendery , Yangyang , Sungchan and Shotaro were still not part of NCT But Xiao Jun , Hendery and Yangyang were already trainees in 2018 and debuted in January 2019 while Sungchan & Shotaro debuted in October 2020 The reason why Yangyang , Hendery and Xiao Jun were not yet in BLACK ON BLACK it's because they became a TRAINEE on July 17th 2018 and BLACK ON BLACK was released on MARCH 14th 2018 Well sorry for the long explanation but hope it helps hehe Anyways thanxx so much for this RJ finally you've reacted to the one I've been waiting for hopefully I can see TREASURE reaction and lots more of ATEEZ reaction too ( LOL I'm too excited HAHAHA there will be ATEEZ by FRIDAY ) But don't worry I can wait for that first finish your list so that you won't be confused or have hard time ok? bye~ and thanxx again
