Nco Txog Hmoob - Xf. Txawj Pes Vaj & Fishermen's Project (Live Session) [Lyric Video]

While we were doing our VBS in Thailand last year, we got the chance to meet Xf Txawj Pes and the wonderful (& talented!) kids of his foundation. During the open mic time, we heard this song by Xf Txawj Pes and we were captivated by it! We’re so glad to have had the opportunity share this song together with you all! May the wonderful memoir of this song give you a humbling perspective of a simple and beautiful early life!

ENGLISH Lyrics:
I still remember the Hmong house that sits on top of the mountain
The house of bamboo and leaves in the jungle
My old Grandma and Grandpa sitting by the fire in the kitchen
Mom waking to cook breakfast before the dawn
When I think about it, it brings me so much joy.
Even though during those times we were so poor
We would play around in front of our father
When I think about it, a tear falls down
If there is one day
If I have a chance to go
I want to return and see that home covered in leaves
If there is one day
If I have a chance to go
I want to see that home with the roof made of leaves
I still remember when the leaves shed in the fall
Missing when the wind blew through my hair
Having no electricity and no running water
Bathed in cold water, no hot water at all
When it rained we slept so well
We all slept on one bed, right next to the guest bed
The fireplace smoked and filled the whole house
When I think it about it, it makes me miss life when I was little
If there is one day
If I have a chance to go
I want to return and see that home covered in leaves
If there is one day
If I have a chance to go
I want to see that home with the roof made of leaves
One more time
Today the Hmong have come to live in the city
Having houses, living with others in the heart of the city
Every household having a TV and a refrigerator
Having internet and living a successful life
The little boy has a cell-phone like the others
Laying down, playing with their iPhone
This life now is not like the past
When I think about it, my tears keep rolling
If there is one day
If I have a chance to go
I want to return and see that home covered in leaves
If there is one day
If I have a chance to go
I want to see that home with the roof made of leaves
One more time

My mom passed away 😢 this song bring back so much memories when we first came to United States in the 80's. Mom I know that you are in heaven with your parents and my sister and two brothers that passed away in Laos. They didn't make it to the America. Now it's your chance to be a mom for them in heaven. Maybe we meet eachother one day but now I'm a mom just like you. I will love my kids just how you loved us.

I was not born in Laos, and I can never fully grasp the struggles my parents and those before endured. It is great pleasure to listen to this song because the lyrics paints a vivid image of a story as you listen. Through his voice and passion in singing, it takes me to a forgotten but famillar place my parents always tell me about. This song puts me in a scenery of me standing on a luscious green hill; overlooking a small village on a early morning with careless children playing outside with their hand woven clothes that are stitch from the wrinkle hands of their grandmas. It is nostaglic song; allowing us to deeply feel and see through his lens of the place he once called home. The lyrics are so powerful because although you're not there physically, it takes you there spiritually. This is important for us all, because this allow us all to realize our roots and appreciate our identity, our culture, and where we came from.

I was born in Laos, migrated to Thailand, and came to the USA at the age of 10. I was old enough to experience all the things in this song. Bring back so much memories. My wife was born in the USA, and she cannot relate. I would tell her how I miss the simple lifestyle back in Thailand. Sitting around the bonfire, listening to the old folks telling stories. Eating grill corn. Sleeping and hearing the rain drop hitting the tin roof. Life was so good and simple. Even though we were poor, we all have each other.

This song takes me back to my childhood in the refugee camp in Thailand. Bitter and sweet moments when we as the minority faced so many intricate situation with the Thai people in the camp. We were treated like animals and we never allowed to get out of the camp but stayed within the camp. Young girls was raped by Thai security or police yet we couldn't do anything but keep it to ourselves. I get emotional while listening to this song and it hurts me so much. Torn my heart into pieces. Thank you Lord, for giving us the opportunity to be here in this country to better ourselves. A land full of great opportunities and we can chase after our dream and do whatever makes us feel comfortable like home.

My experience in Thailand wasn’t a pleasant one but it is more like a prisoner because we as Hmong in the camp we had no right or no privilege like the Thai people. Every time I think bout it I hate Thai people so much. I hate them for the shit they put us through and the respect we didn’t get from them. They treated us like animal.

I love Hmong christian song. This song bring me tears, it remind me when we were in Thailand when we were in refugee Camp at the end of the seventies... so when our parents lost everything in Laos at the end of the secret war. we didn t have that much to eat, we lost family, we lost friends because of malnutrition and sickness back then when escaping Laos... some moved to France, USA, Australia, french... Guyana... now some us 4000 sqft home or even over, some became millionaire, doctor , lawyers... but when we think about old times it still me sad and make me realize how lucky our generation and future hmong generation are... because there is hope, and there is someone who look after us hmong from Heaven...

Life was so simple when we didn’t have anything. My parents struggled but we were a family. Money and mistresses torn us apart and eventually my mom gave up. Years has it been since they both passed away and this song brings back so much memories 😢 sometimes I drive back to our old house and reminisce of the good old days when mom and dad were still together, back when we were still a family

Very beautiful song. I was born in Vinai and my family moved to America when I was 2. I'm unable to recollect any memories of life as a refugee, but going through my mother's photo album and seeing the old pictures of us, closing my eyes, and listening to this song, I can begin to understand the nostalgia of a simple life. Makes me miss my dad, my mother told me stories of how they were able to get through all the hardships with what little they had because of my father's big heart of always lending a helping hand and pure determination. Rest well Dad.

Great lyrics, emotion and range. I was just 6 when we fled Laos, but my childhood memories of our village have been seared into my mind. I remember them as if the memories were from yesterday. As an American Soldier and more specifically Iraq and Afghanistan combat veteran, I have seen many times over how war tears families apart and uproot them from their homes flinging them around the world. My childhood experience in Laos during wartime really helped me empathize with the people of the Middle East and S.W. Asia. How they must also miss their homes....even if they were no more than just tents in the desert. God bless you for such a heartfelt song evoking powerful memories of young and old alike....all of us yearning for our roots.

Today, I heard this song from watching the FHNY...came to search for it and just can't hold back my tears listening to lyrics. Miss my grandparents, still remember how life was like in Thailand, we were so poor. I still remember picking up fruits on the ground from fruit vendors while I was a young child. 😢 We came so far....

Young soul here but growing up with my parents always telling me about their life back in Thailand, This song hits the spot of how they must have felt while living here for 40 plus years. I used to loved watching back then movies where a group of Hmong camera men go & travel in Thailand and Laos touring & guiding us about life in Thailand. Showing videos of trees, their land, kids, grandmas, lovers & especially their beautiful gardens! The little mini bamboo tree houses & leaf houses that covers them from the sun while eating boiled veggies & boiled whole chicken. Loved watching them when I was a child! Hehe. The words of this song is so visualizing. Love this song with full passion 🌺🌞🌱🌴🎋🌾

There's so many great things about this song: the lyrics, the music, the voice, and the amount of unity from our hmong community alone making this song hit 5.6 MILLION views. Normally it takes an American artist to reach just a million views from the support of all races, but our community hits different and thats called LOVE. This is why I love our community, the amount of support and sincerity we pull❤❤❤ I just pray that my generation (gen z) keeps the love our elders and parents modeled because there's so much negativity nowadays. May we remember and keep our culture, language, history and roots within us.

This song makes me miss my dad so much. Growing up, my dad told my siblings and I many stories of his childhood and how much he misses his homeland. He always said that he wants to go back and see Laos and almost did, until 2 years ago when my dad had a stroke. My dad is currently fighting the stroke and is recovering in a Rehab center. And every time we visit my dad, he would always point for our phones to open KZread and show him videos of Hmong villages in Laos. And every time he sees the videos of Laos, he would cry because he misses his homeland. This song is beautiful. I hope to hear more songs like this❤️
