A question for the specialists: I don't understand how Hugo Gonzales was able to quite clearly beat Leon Marchand (future double medley world champion !) and Carson Foster on the 400 individual medley, to find himself some months later only 12th in the 200 medley in Budapest, more than 3" behind Léon Marchand ? He was injured, or in shape too soon perhaps? It's a mystery to me...

Yard and LCM two différents things and season sometimes much longer for NCAA swimmer to be taper in March and summer.

@@collegeperformance6862 Ok, I understand, yet Marchand and Foster also spent the entire season in the NCAA and performed well in Budapest. Probably with better preparation than Gonzales i guess.
