Make sure you mark the nut so when you take off you can line up and it will match without effecting your tracking

@MR MAN I used painters blue tape, any tape would do. After the air bag is removed, I put a piece from the column to the steering wheel. Then, I sliced it with a sharp knife carefully, not to mar the plastic. Easy to line it back up again.

Just installed mine tonight. Followed your video to an absolute T. No issues at all. Haven't even driven yet. Might have to adjust tie rods ever so slightly. We'll see. Thanks for an excellent video. Cheers.

I installed the Cipher wheel in my 2014 GT PRHT following the instructions in the video. I don't think I'd have tried it without the video. I ended up with the steering wheel about 10 degrees off. The problem is that the splines in the wheel hub are not in the same rotational position as those on the stock wheel. I corrected the problem by adjusting the tie rod ends. For about a 10 degree correction, 1/4 turn of the tie rods was all that was needed. Making the adjustment without a lift is a challenge, but doable. The Cipher wheel transformed the car and the leather quality is clearly a step above the stock wheel.

That's some great advice. I am having an alignment / corner balancing done on my car next week, so I am going to have this corrected then.

Quite possibly the best Miata install video I have ever watched! Well done, Sir! Quick question, do you think the steering wheel isn't perfectly centered due to an issue with the new steering wheel or when you installed it. Having the wheel off just a hair would drive me crazy! Is this a common problem with this steering wheel? Thanks!

This car has a Kenwood Android Auto head, it's actually the one I took out of my 2012, it was installed in it when I bought it. Nice unit, and I run Waze for navigation.

You can easily fix that off-set via the tie rod without messing up the alignment. A wheel not centered drives me nuts.

Great video one little tip before you take the steering wheel off mark the nut so that when you lining up the steering wheel you don't need to worry about setting up your tracking

Good tip! When I did mine I just made sure the steering wheel was centered before I pulled it off completely, but that is a better way to ensure its straight. I think mine is just because my car needs an alignment to correct that. I am planning on upgrading to coil overs, so I have put than off until I can get them.

Then its absolutely worth it do then ,I have mine and even though there are few things I want to do ,I want to change the discs coilovers ,stem valves ,new carpet and seat covers maybe due a touch up on the paint will cost but like the idea of keeping something long term

Actually, the pedals on my car came with it from the factory. It was part of the 2011 Special Edition package... so they are the OEM Mazda ones.

As far as I could tell, it matches the dimensions of the stock steering wheel, so I would have to say true circle. The thickness of the grip is considerably thicker than the OEM item.

Hello , great video! Nowhere can I find out if the Cypher steering wheel is of smaller diameter than the factory. Have emailed flying Miata , as Goodwin don’t ship to Western Australia & their agent doesn’t have stock of anything! Cheers Simon

Its pretty much the same diameter as stock, the grip is just a lot thicker.

I've been eyeing a Guardian Designs wheel, I think I want to go with yellow stitching and 12 o'clock marker. The biggest worry for me is getting it back on straight, lol. It bothers me to no end when the steering wheel isn't straight. I wonder if just using a marker to mark the position on the bolt and wheel would make this easier to get perfect.

The NC model probably has the most legroom of any generation. I'm 5'9 and still have about 3-4 inches behind my seat when I have it adjusted comfortably.

Hello from Western Australia Another tip from a 6ft3 person . I lowered the clutch pedal by about an inch (just adjust the pushrod under the dash ). You have to adjust the clutch switch also or it brings on an engine light & the cruise control doesn’t work . Cheers Simon

Did you ever figure out a good way to get the cipher steering wheel aligned? Mine is slightly off as well. Very hard to adjust

I did correct it, yes. When I had my car corner balanced and aligned after the shock install I had them adjust the tie rods to center the steering wheel again. Now it tracks perfect with the steering wheel dead center.

You'd have to remove them and transfer them to a new steering wheel. I don't have an automatic car for reference, so you might have to look for a tutorial on removing them for a better answer.
