I'm not. O&Os tend to kill originality and diversity. But at least in this case it is a brand new channel, and not replacing a previously independently owned channel.

0:07 - That's not the Laramie peacock. That's just the peacock from the 1979 logo.

Greg Palmer I guess they made an error during the launch, it was from 1979 during the "Proud As The Peacock" period. The Peacock with the "N" was introduced in 1980.

Win Server 2008 When the Trapzoid N launched in 1976, the logo was borrowed from the Nebraska Educational TV, but then they got of it by the fall of 1979 where they brought the Peacock logo back and slapped with the “N” logo and called it the “Proud N”. There was another mistake during the launch, the “Trapzoid N” launched in 1976, not 1975. NBC stopped using the “Snake” and the Laramie Peacock bumper completely by the fall of 1976.

I wonder if NBC will ever purchase any new television stations in the future or not. My local NBC station is KCRA.

Channel 10 is a reference to their cable channel position in Boston, unlike at their sisters in Providence and Philadelphia, where it refers to their virtual broadcast channel positions...

Congrats!

Viewers still have not warmed up to "NBC Boston" now "NBC 10 Boston" in a bewildering brand strategy. WJAR in nearby Providence, RI has branded as "NBC10" for sometime so in essence to have two NBC 10's in markets that overlap makes no sense. The brass at NBC stations group would have been better off branding the Boston operation as "NBC New England." Viewers in Boston, like elsewhere, are creatures of habit. WHDH's evening news established a loyal following as a pretty strong affiliate. NBC shot themselves in the foot thinking they could build a competitive local news channel from the ground up in this market. It's clearly not working, expect more changes as the network attempts to find a local news audience in Boston.

The introduction is good. It's average but not too bad. I thought it would be a similar celebration to KNTV in San Francisco years ago when that station launch the NBC O&O.

NBC Boston is now officially NBC 10 Boston.

I think the reason why they didn't have a big celebration like KNTV is because NBC didn't want to rub it into WHDH owner's face

I don't think NBC cared a bit about WHDH's owner. However, there were many viewers who were mad at NBC for ending the affiliation agreement with WHDH. It was probably those viewers NBC didn't want to offend.

@@jimtrue1465 NBC and Sunbeam owner Ed Ansin never got along. The marriage of NBC and WHDH was a relationship neither side wanted. The rift between NBC and Sunbeam dates back to WCKT Miami. When WTVJ went up for sale in 1987, NBC pounced on it. NBC programming remained on WCKT through 1988 due to contractual obligations. I don't live in the Boston market, but when I visited there and tuned in WHDH, I noticed they weren't even promoting NBC programming. It shows how toxic that relationship was that NBC was willing to build a station in the Boston market they could own.

I was hoping it would be either NBC New England or NBC 10 New England because it share studio facilities with it sister regional cable news channel, New England Cable News and focusing news across New England.

But NBC already owns a station in Hartford, Connecticut which is part of New England so it wouldn't make sense that NBC Boston would be named NBC New England

Dolores Huntoon If you saw the logo montage, there was a mistake that the peacock logo was not from 1962, it was 1979. NBC was using the "NBC Snake" in 1962 which was introduced in 1960. Sadly, the "NBC Snake" was not shown in the montage. They must've forgot to put the "NBC Snake" on there.

Nah. Its enessenaly their symbol, like with ABC and CBS' logos. They probably will tweak it here and there, but it will probably stay the same
