The reason many people don't talk about Puskas is he came from an era where pretty much everyone who was old enough to remember him is dead. A real all time great and perfected the striker position before anyone else.

Real Madrid TV shows some long highlights of big Champions matches from the late 50's and 60's so i saw some of those games and Real leyends like Di Stéfano, Puskás, Gento, Rial or Kopa play. Di Stéfano was the total player and not a single player in those matches stands a candle in front of him, is like he came from the future compared to the rest.

He is not underrated. In any relevant list he is a top 8 player ever. Althought he is very old and his country is very small and Eastern European. His carreer and abilities were really great. His teams are also amongst the greatest teams ever.

the first world war ended on the 11th of November 1918, almost 8 and a half years before Ferenc was born. so it in fact had happened before his birth with his nation even instigating the war

The 1958 Hungarian national team is probably the most underrated, and one of the best in history

As a German I have to say they didn't hurt him on purpose😂 In our first game the german Headcoach played all the reserves to not show Hungary what we are capable off. Hungary was the far better team, i have to admit but in the final they were playing our first team. AND the most important thing. Germany were the first team EVER to use soccer cleats.... so in the final during harsh rain, the hungarians slipped all the time, while the Germans were quit strong on their feet and were able to run propably. Our win is called the ,,Wonder of Bern,, due to the strength of the hungarian team. They just seemed unbeatable

Yeah, the German team was good, but definitely the Hungarian team was much better, maybe the best team EVER. So it was much stronger, definitely the weaker team won. It was very unfortunate. Tha rain, the German shoes, Puskas' injury (it was on purpose of course but not because of the final), the German musicians in the last night, the two very hard games before the final (Uruguay, Brazil). Before a German goal Grosics was attacked clearly, and Puskas' offside goal was not offside, they say, the referee just hated the Hungarians. It was really a miracle. 1 in 10 or 100 matches. (Hungary was undefeated for 6 years except for this)

You don’t compare apples to oranges. A performance can be evaluated only in the era it existed. His stats speak for themselves. If you are not capable to look at his career in context the time and circumstances he played in and trying to compare him to todays players , don’t bother because you are missing the point.
