Man I was having so much trouble trying to replace the regulator myself until I found this video, it's the most well-explained and helpful video on this issue! Thank you so much for this video!

Helpful video thanks. The Mark 4 does not have removable pulleys shown at 17:20. I’m struggling getting the cables in.

Thanks Bob, this also helped me replace the motor in the door lock actuator. Great how-to on getting inside the door internals!

Bob. Thank you for this video. Wrapping the cables around that spool is certainly a challenge in frustration. My old one was completely destroyed, so I couldn't see how many "wraps" it had. I ended up with a single row gap in the middle of the spool. Do you remember if yours was the same, or if every single row on the spool was wrapped with cable? I assembled mine exactly like yours (removed that lower plastic guide to get it around the pulley etc), and mine ended up looking exactly like yours - both tension adjusters screwed almost all the way in. However, after assembling everything back in the door, I noticed quite a lot of "slack" in the upper cable that goes around the pulley. Makes me concerned that the cable could potentially hop off the pulley.

My cables were completely around the spool. I tried to explain how the wrap went and the best way to do it was to have the cables evenly wrapped from both sides. I believe I read somewhere that there were 5 turns of the cable and if you put the actuator slide in the middle of the channel you would have 2 1/2 wraps on each side. The cables would be tight once you reattach the lower plastic guide. There was no slack.

@@Batman825 Got it. I have one single "row" in the very middle of the spool that is empty. Sounds like I need to take the entire thing apart, again. Dang. Thanks for the prompt reply. Also to clarify, there is zero slack if the window is up, in the middle, or anywhere other than rolled all the way down. Once rolled all the way down, there is maybe 1" of tension slop only in the upper cable.

@@justarandom404 I don't recall any slack in the cables. Maybe adjust the slack with the tensioners where the cables go into the spool? Should be the same tension up, down or in the middle.

@@Batman825 Thanks Bob. Man I am running through when I put that thing back together. There is no way I'm going to be able to get another "wrap" around the spool. I was barely, BARELY able to get that plastic bushing piece to slide back in. I had both springs fully compressed, pulling on the cables -hard-, and barely got it to slot into place and latch in. I think I'm just going to run it as-is. If it goes sproing and drops off the pulley I will update you.

Ya but what if the windows won’t go down, which would be one of the main reasons you’d be changing the regulator🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Not sure I understand your question? If the windows won't go down it might be your motor or switch. You have to take it apart to determine that. If it is the regulator you will know when you take it apart.

I agree. He left out the part how he got it down half way. I assumed he has somewhat still functional.

My window (2001) malfunctioned today. I brought it up a little bit and I heard this weird crackling sound. At the next light, I played with it, finding that I could raise the window but not lower it. Being in California and not worried about rain I figured it was going to be fine until the weekend when I had time to tear the door apart. Do you think I'd even have to look at the motor since it seemed to function for the raising part? (I'm about halfway through this video so maybe I need to watch more and I might get my own question answered)

@@HorizonMelt I would say your motor is fine. I would bet the cable broke or the plastic pieces that the cable runs on. The plastic wears out with time and both of mine were that.
