Join us for a walk in Naxos Town (Chora), Naxos Island, Greece. We explore Naxos Town the capital of Naxos Island, Greece. We explore the narrow winding alleyways of the Old Market, the heart of Naxos Old Town, where there are plenty of places to shop and eat. Naxos Town is home to Naxos Port and the Temple of Apollo.
Our walk finishes on the walkway to Naxos' Temple of Apollo - Portara, a huge marble gate and the single remaining part of an unfinished temple of Apollo of 530 BC. It is the island's emblem and main landmark. Standing on the islet of Palatia, at the entrance to Naxos harbour, it comprises four marble parts weighing about 20 tons each.
Naxos is a Greek island in the South Aegean, the largest of the Cyclades island group. Naxos' capital, Naxos Town (also called Hora or Chora) is a port town filled with whitewashed, cube-shaped houses and medieval Venetian mansions. Kastro, a hilltop castle dating to the 13th century, houses Naxos archaeological museum.
