In 86 I was required to loose 35 lbs to be eligible to go to boot camp. During boot I lost another 48 lbs. Enough to be reissued uniforms that fit. There was no "going home" you went to PMTU Positive Motivational Training Unit- 2 additional hours of PT every night. I am proud of what I lost before, but I am glad I pushed through. 10 of the best years of my life.

I am morbidly obese but my goal is to be able to join the navy next year. I haven’t ran since elementary school but I’ve started running a mile and a half every day at the park. My time is about 30 minutes but I know I can get there. I can’t do a push-up either so I’m working on getting my core and my arms stronger. My goal is to not only meet the female standard; but meet, if not exceed, the male standard before I even talk to my recruiter. If I’m close, that’s fine but I want to be sure I’m in shape. I’m motivated and ready to be healthy

I used to be a Navy recruiter. I want you to know that you can do it. Most recruit prospects give up at some point and don't reach their goal but they aren't you. If you really want it, you can make it happen. Learn about proper calorie deficit, keep running for 30 minutes at a time (run for distance/speed and consistency) 5-6 days a week, and focus on exercises that make you stronger especially leg exercises as this will speed up your metabolism. No matter what, don't give up. Don't quit.

Result: A lot of people honorably discharged by purposely failing three APFTs and posting their new college/free life on Facebook.

You can fail the first two PFAs iirc the third PFA is the one you need to pass. Honestly if your partner isn’t a blue falcon you’ll pass unless you utterly suck at running then you shouldn’t be there in the first place. I went in at 20 and wasn’t in the best shape and still passed it all easy. I went to recruiter October I was in boot camp in march. Never once did I PT at DEP. You’ll be fine if you can run a 12:30 before even talking to a recruiter. By the time you get to bootcamp you should be able to run a 11-12 min mile and a half. Any less then bootcamp is literally the Summer camp for fleet navy.

If it's small or manageable it will possibly be glossed over at first but the RDCs will know and they will focus on those recruits. If they don't pass by a real margin they likely won't be immediately placed in a division. If the failure is not too bad and it won't disrupt their seat for A school they could be put into a "fitness division", but if the failure is really bad and it looks like the recruiter blatantly lied about their ability to pass the PRT then yes, they can and will be sent home. I came about 30 seconds late on my run. I was active prior to boot camp but it was cycling and skating and the muscle groups for those exercises are different than for straight running. I also could barely do my pushups. They gave me a red card and moved me into division. I made it my personal issue to constantly do more pushups just about every day. One week after leaving Basic and doing our initial PRT for A school I did 120 pushups in 2 minutes. It's important that the new recruit puts forth full effort without expecting any kind of pass so that is what they are told, for some people, kowing the stakes are that high is the push they need. RDCs also also know that you're in a state of shock and awe the first week or so so not everyone is on their A game. It's not as cut and dry as they make it seem in this short video.

they get put into a remedial unit i remember seeing the extra PT units in the track while i was marching over to my training, i think they always had sweats in instead in OCP so they could live a life of PT.I don’t think having someone be supervised with their fitness is that bad especially considering the lives many of these people left behind

@@zacharyboullion1804 When I went through BMT it was awful. Not that I didn’t make it but damn, ruthless, relentless, pushing the ground and “ I was runninggggggg “ everywhere. Lol I shed what weight I did have. At graduation my own parents didn’t recognize me, walked right past me.

Omg. They’re killing me with this new navy. When I was in we had to run the mile and a half in 12. What was hilarious was that it could not be 11:59 or 12:01. So every lap this asshole was either yelling speed up or slow down 😂. Then they took us at midnight to do the EOD/SEAL test.

What happened to weight standards to get in to boot camp?!! Some of those recruits are morbidly obese. They shouldn't be released from Delayed Entry Program until they meet standards. Before I was shipped off to USMC Recruit Training in the 90's, we were weighed several times. I don't get it. Setting them up for failure.

I went the Navy boot camp about 20 years ago and it was a joke, Yes they are very soft when it comes to the PT. When I went through basic training they played favoritism on the people couldn't pass the test. Some ppl couldn't even run 3 blocks and the RDCs still passed them. Btw, the RDCs couldn't even pass their own PT test, and how do you expect ppl to pass when you as a RDC is out of shape? Wow..And that's what you call leading by example,? lol ..And I'm telling the truth 💯.

Based on the body habitus of a lot of those recruits I estimate 50% won’t make it. Oh wait it’s the navy which is just a notch above the airforce, so the PFT is walk 50 feet to the chow hall and drink a cup of coffee. Making future chief petty officers.

As an American this is ungodly embarrassing. Damn has the youth of our nation and recruiters changed for the absolute worst. Neither from the start could even complete one sentence without the up voice valley girl inflection with “like” thrown in there to capitalize the failure of our education system. Let’s not even mention the vast majority of the dough riddled recruits with absolutely no one screaming at them to push through what should be a nightmare but is really just a summer camp for whatever these are.
