I think one of the greatest monument not shown was the NNMC in Bethesda Md. dedicated in 1940 by FDR.

My uncle a retired CWO4 (37-67), hated the lone sailor statute. His complaint was that the sailor was not properly in uniform.

I worked at the Navy Memorial for 10 years. Each morning, I'd start my day by putting The Lone Sailor on report for having his peacoat unbuttoned and his hands in his pocket.

@@masterchiefsseachest1983 Got chewed out by the DesRon commodore while walking down the pier in Newport RI the winter of 1982 with my hands in my pockets. It was below freezing with a lovely gale coming down the pier. Never forgot that incident and the impression it made on me. Great video. The navy and marine memorial on the GW Parkway is one of my favorites. Senior chief, retired.

Thoughtful, insightful tip to see the memorials at night & during the day. I used this phrase a lot doring my time in the navy," Thank you Master Cheif!" proud to say it to you too!

Terrific video. I was unaware of all the memorials either directly dedicated to the Navy or in combination to the Navy. Stationed in Pearl Harbor in 1970, I visited the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Punch Bowl Crater above Honolulu. The bass relief focal point of the WWI Pacific Theater memorial had a profound affect on me with its inscription beneath "The solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice on the alter of freedom." I recall accidentally finding where Ernie Pyle WWII journalist (KIA) and WWI veteran is interred between two unknowns. A memorial as profoundly somber as the USS Arizona.

This a great channel. Thank you for the content. I'm glad KZread recommended it to me. I have been to the Navy Memorial on Pennsylvania Ave. many times. Perhaps we met there. I was there for business. When things got a little tense, I enjoyed looking down on it from our conference room. I would stroll around there during lunch breaks to reset as I focused on the history of it and the art and design.

That was Great to see the Seabee memorial. But there is more to it that what is in here. The same man the sculpted this memorial was a Seabee by the name of Felix de Weldon, he also sculpted the Marine Iwo Jima Memorial. Along with this Memorial is a Scholarship Fund set up for the dependents of Active, Retired, Reserve, or deceased Seabee's. SeaBee's CAN DO .

Master Chief - I love your Beirut Veteran hat - especially the Combat Action Ribbon... I wear a "Combat Veteran Vietnam" ball cap. It has the National Defense Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon and The Vietnam Service Ribbon. I added a small MCPO Foul Anchor, a Lapel Size Air Medal Ribbon and my Aircrew Wings. But, I wish that it also had the CAR... PHCM(nac) Ret. Dick Crowe Great Video - I would like to visit Washington D.C. again and take my wife. She has never seen D.C. and it is something that every American should see.

Hello, Sir. I´m an nautical enthusiast, and I reasently dicovered your channel; obiously I subscribed to it. I´ve learned a lot of Navy culture and history. In this particular video, I was amazied how the USA honors their enlisted men and women. However, I diden´t saw that very iconic statue of the few marines who planted the "Stripes and Stars" flag back in Japan at almost the end of the pacific war. Why not? With all due respect, I wish you, your family and friends a (late) Merry Christmas and a better 2021. Greetings from NE patagonia, Argentina.

Since the establishment of the Hospital Corps on June 17, 1898, is members have always generically been called hospital corpsmen. From 1916-1948, the Hospital Corps rating title was pharmacist's mate.

While Commodore Barry is the first commissioned officer in the USN, he is not the first naval officer to be commissioned. That honor belongs to a Captain in the U. S. Revenue Cutter Service, in 1790. MK3 W. Raddatz USCG, 1979-83

I was on active duty during the time when the debate on what the lone sailor statue was supposed to look like. Man was there some hate and discontent! Many said that it was a very bad example of what a fine upstanding bluejacket should look like with his upturned collar and hands in his pockets. I thought about it and said yeah sure that's what the book says, but lets look at reality...
