One thing I would like to add is don't go into the raft head-first. That is a serious strike, and dangerous. Even though it's in a pool setting, you can still break your neck.
Never commented on one of these before ive beeb watching a ton of navy videos and i think i made my decision to enlist once i get back home these videos have been extremely helpful thank you for your service!

Did you still decide to enlist? If so what rate did you choose. I'm hoping to be gone to basic myself before February
Interesting that this video shows them training in a large pool someone I know personally was literally pushed into the ocean from a Navy ship like 35 yrs ago as part of his training dude used to cry on the phone with Big Mama on a regular basis during his basic training but it helped mold him into the man that he is today
My son arrived last night … he’s gonna love this swim test! He’s a certified lifeguard…

That’s the same height as the synchronized 3m diving you see in the Olympics where they do all kinds of flips off those boards.
i’ve just been so HOOKED on your vids man i’m going to MEPS tomorrow!:)
I remember when I was there we had a guy in our division who was the fastest runner in the division, like the first PFA his run was 8 minutes, which was insane and unfortunately he ended up getting set back a week because he couldn't pass the swim test and he was probably the best recruit up until that point, he past all his inspections and was like the star in PT everyday.

Hopefully he passed the swim test in the end!
I easily passed the initial swim test. However, the underwater portion of the Navy Aircrewman swim test gave me fits since I am naturally quite buoyant. I did pass it but, I still hate being underwater. Getting tipped over in the pool helicopter mockup also sucked. Still, I learned things that could have saved my life if I had been unlucky enough to crash in the ocean while flying in a chopper.
For the swim test we did in boot camp (San Diego 1974), all we did was to step off the platform and tread water for 5 minutes. That was the extent of the company swim test in boot camp.
10ft is nothing... On my first Med, we jumped off the 0-4 level during swim call... Only a couple made the jump before they put a stop to it Which was porbably a good idea because you hit the water pretty hard and you go pretty deep
Dang man I graduated navy bootcamp September 1 2023. The only part of the swim test I struggled with was the float. For some reason I could swim my ass off but that float made me look like a complete failure. I did eventually pass it after about two days of training but dang I don’t understand why I struggled with that part so bad💀😭😭
Any specific stroke you will be asked to do
Older son was barely a swimmer. Said no one was looking when he had to swim length of pool without feet touching bottom. No one looking his feet touched bottom many times. My younger son had been on swim team so he had no problem.
October 31 !! Here I come . I’m not as scared as I thought I’d be but I might just be repressing who knows !
I jumped from a 30 foot cliff at Lake Martin and wasn't afraid of heights
HELP! I'm shipping off to bootcamp next week, and I'm tad bit nervous because I really don't know how to swim or float. What do I expect? Do I get beat or humiliated? Will I get taught how to swim basics? I need some tips.
Oh lord. This brings back memories. I was a third class swimmer. I had to float on my back. The expert swimmers that made sure we were safe, were mean asf. Lol.
1st step! Hold your breath! You will float! Next is swim side to side like a yellow tang!
Leaving soon ⚓️🫡

I’m one of those people who sink like a rock in water if I’m not swimming or treading, so I don’t know if I could do the prone float. Am I required to float without movement or could I tread water?

Don't worry about it too much, when I went through boot 7 months ago, if you failed the prone float, you came back another day and did it on your back.

I saw the one male hold is nose prior to jumping in, are we allowed to do that? I don’t have an issue of jumping into the water but hate the feeling of having water all up in my nose.

They make you do it as part of the process. For me the feeling of water in my ears is worse. I tried to swim with my head above the water but they made me dip my head to where my ears were underwater
You should know how to swim, or at the very least feel somewhat comfortable in the water , open ocean water not a warm pool. I can see the Navy getting slack on the qualification. Can you imagine if you actually had to go in the water out in the fleet and you have a bunch of screamers panicking . Not good make sure you can swim and have practiced in a local lake or even a pond.
So if u still try hard but you don't pass the swim will they get u out

If i understand your question correctly, yes. If you cannot swim to the standard, you are processed out.

To be fair, when I went through it I wasn’t the strongest swimmer. It took me 2 tries before I passed the initial swim and moved on to prone and abandoned ship. There are many people that come from urban areas that have never been in a pool. The biggest thing that they motivated us with was the fact that this shouldn’t be a tool of fear, but survival, as if you find yourself in a survival at sea scenario, something has went completely wrong. You swim to survive, not cuz it’s fun. USS Indianapolis is the name of the building the pool is located. I’d suggest you Look into it.

The funny part about the Indianapolis incident is that many of the survivors of the attack never swam until the incident! Can you believe that?

you do a prone float either on your back or front. I did front and they tell you to float for 5 seconds then come up for air and repeat until it's over. then you get in coveralls and slap air into them in the water and make them float
