TAKE MY MONEY!! Been waiting years for this.

I know you mentioned it takes around 30 min, but do you have an installation video?
@TheJamesicle
Жыл бұрын
@@savethenissan I wish; when I decided to do this video, I kicked myself for not doing an install video beforehand because that would have been a pretty good idea. With that said, the installation guide PDF you get with it is probably one of the best I've seen. The only thing you're kind of on your own for is where to place the connected module, they don't tell you that. I sat mine behind the front lower trim on the driver's seat, and routed the cables that way, ensuring enough slack that the seat could freely move back and forth.

Can you make some new videos with your newer NavTool devices, specifically using wireless CarPlay. Most of your videos are 4 yrs old or older. I have NavTool 3.0 and thinking of maybe upgrading to something newer for my 2011 Honda Pilot Touring with NAV/RES that has wireless CarPlay.

Hi, this is superb. Can you advise on the make and model of this after-market installation and perhaps a link to a supplier? Also, does this also operate with an Apple phone? Regards Emmet

This is showing Apple CarPlay with an iPhone 11 Pro. It also works for Android Auto (wired and wireless). Check NavTool's website (navtool.com) for your vehicle make, model, and year.
I have a navtool apple carplay interface as well. When I connect an aux cord to the aux port, no audio plays, just hear a buzzing noise when I turn up the volume. Any suggestions?
Fantastic video, very helpful. Does the navtool unit fully power down when the car powers down?
@TheJamesicle
Жыл бұрын
Yes, it does. The unit powers up when the doors are unlocked and the accessories (like the nav screen) come on. This allows it to boot and pair to your phone, so once you start the ignition it is a few seconds at most for CarPlay to come up.

@@TheJamesicle thanks! I bought the NavTool unit after seeing your video. Mine would not shut down but a wire harness adjustment fixed that. Works great now!
I own a USB Navtool on my 2013 odyssey. Can I purchase a USB Bluetooth adapter to connect my phone instead of using a cable?
Thanks for this review, been searching for something like this, wonder if you would know, i have the standard infotainment system that comes with the range rover, (i.e the rear screens and dvd player) would this allow to play videos from the i phone onto the rear screens?
@TheJamesicle
2 ай бұрын
The rear entertainment system display is independent from the front infotainment screen. You'd need to hook up a module to the rear entertainment system that would allow you to do screen mirroring or similar, search something like "Car WiFi display box" on Amazon.
Hey great recommendation. I have a ‘13 Sport, will this work with my year? Thanks!

They have a model that fits the '13 RRS on their website, yes.
I Have question, the video display only shows how to use your car play but how did you install the CarPlay and how much was the CarPlay ? I want to upgrade my Ranger Rover Sport 2009 ?
@TheJamesicle

The kit comes with an installation guide, it took about 45 minutes, no tools required. Just pop off a friction-fit panel on the front of the driver's seat. The NavTool website can give you the pricing, should be $599 USD as of this comment.
Hi, please tell me what version you used. I have the same range rover. there are a few options and I want to know which is the correct version of navtool to buy. Thanks, Johnny

Check the NavTool website, there’s one “Smartphone Screen Mirroring” > “CarPlay” option for your year/make/model.

Are you able to make calls via the internal Range Rover phone system when Apple CarPlay is engaged? Does that mess up any of the software/hardware?
@TheJamesicle
2 ай бұрын
Works just fine -- the CarPlay unit will show the call in progress but will use the built-in Land Rover bluetooth hands-free hardware, unless you set up an auxiliary microphone within the NavTool. I wish I had done so, as I think my L320's factory mic is on the outs.
If you don’t mind, would you please make a video on how you installed it. We are buying this car on Saturday but I don’t want to ruin the entire interior by tearing it apart. Thank you in advance!
@TheJamesicle
11 ай бұрын
There is no 'tearing the interior apart', I assure you. You don't even touch the head unit or center stack. There is a trim panel on the lower front of the driver seat that you remove (just give it a good tug), move the driver's seat as far forward and up as it will go, then the wiring harnesses plug into the navigation computer in the back (which is explained in the included PDF when you buy the unit). Plug in the harnesses, route them to the front of the driver's seat, plug them into the NavTool box, fasten the box down using velcro or double-sided tape, and put the trim piece back on. 45 minutes and that's if you care about making sure the wires look nice.

@TheJameicle are you still happy with the NavTool after a year of use?
@TheJamesicle
7 күн бұрын
@jasonp3711 Over one year on, yes, very happy with the NavTool. The unit is still working flawlessly. The RRS gets driven at least a few times a week and no complaints, so I would definitely would still recommend.
Do you have any idea what are the differences between the $599 one and the $359 one because I can't really tell
@TheJamesicle
2 ай бұрын
$359 version doesn't do CarPlay or Android Auto, it's just basic 'screen mirroring over HDMI'.
was it really that easy to install? do you have to rip everything apart?
@TheJamesicle
Жыл бұрын
It was plug-and-play, seriously that easy. These new versions (like the one I purchased) have a harness that doesn't require any wiring harness splicing. The only part that is a bit fiddly is figuring out where you are going to mount the NavTool box itself -- you're kind of on your own there, and the instructions don't tell you anything about it either. I sat mine behind the front lower trim on the driver's seat, and routed the cables that way, ensuring enough slack that the seat could freely move back and forth.
Does the back up camera still work?
@TheJamesicle
6 ай бұрын
Mine never had a backup camera from the factory. It has a provision to allow the installing of a backup camera or a setting to support the factory camera. I have a backup camera I’ll probably be fitting in the spring.
How is it after a couple months now? Still working great?
@TheJamesicle
Жыл бұрын
It's still working fantastic for me. I have had an issue on the rare occasion where my phone will just say "iPhone can no longer connect to this Bluetooth device" (or something like that) at which point I just choose 'Forget connection' and then re-pair to the NavTool in iOS' Bluetooth menu and it's back to normal. It has happened to me maybe three times since I first installed it.
I have the older version. And it works but installation involved cutting wires. Is this new version plug n play?
@TheJamesicle
6 ай бұрын
Yeah, the harnesses are plug and play, it was easier than the videos which depict a bit of splicing required. I didn’t have to do any of that.

Does it take micro SD card or USB as i tend to have all my music on that
@TheJamesicle

No microSD on the box, it has a USB but that’s to plug your phone in for wired CarPlay and / or charging.
Does it work with the steering wheel controls
@TheJamesicle
2 ай бұрын
Volume does, but track skipping doesn't work with the steering wheel controls unfortunately. This is because the audio from the NavTool to the RRS uses a 3.5mm stereo audio cable plugged into the rear aux, and the vehicle's stereo is set to 'AUX'.
