@@Master-ou8te Sorry for the late answer. I simply copied the files to an sd card and inserted it into the navigator. The MobileNavigator folder simply makes the device boot to the desktop. That is to say windows ce was already installed from the factory. There is a link to the MobileNavigator exe in the description. Add a folder to the sd card called MobileNavigator and copy the exe file there. Hope this helps!

@@Tamay. You might have a different version of windows ce. Your device could also have a different cpu. These HPC's are quite particular with what version of software they need.

Me too, I often think of ways to reuse or repurpose things. I tried to find a way to modify an android based 4g router. Have yet to figure that out.

I really enjoyed this style of video, and love older hand held/pda/mobile OSes. I hope you do more!.

Thanks! It's actually already installed but the navigation software normally runs on top of windows. So its a matter of launching the windows ui instead of the navigation software.

WinCE is intentionally empty, it's just a "base" OS. The manufacturer is supposed to add their own programs to it and hide WinCE.

I know this is practically windows embedded compact 7 but I really want a windows 7 version of CE on a small laptop like how the older windows CE was

@eliaschnl Well I was able to install it on my Roadmate 1412 Which has 2 gigabytes and that one will only turn on when connected to power I cannot install it on My Magellan Roadmate 1430 because it only has 54 megabytes which is not enough so how much megabytes does this (your) gps have and how manny gigabytes does that Application have the mobile navigator contain?

I need some help. When ever I play any video on TCPMP it crashes. Only the included sample video works. I tried converting it to 3gp but that did nothing. Is it another type of 3gp or does the stereo sound crash it because it has mono output? I am on Microsoft Windows CE v5.00 (Build 0 on May 16 2008).

Hi, the resolution or bitrate maybe too high. You could try encoding the video to the same parameters as the sample video. These devices can be very picky about which videos they can play. The 3gp file format is a container and it can store different types of mpeg-4 or H.263 files. The same applies to the audio format.

To my knowledge it is very hard to actually install Windows CE on a device like this unless there is a version specific to that exact device. Having the MobileNavigator.exe in the folder " MobileNavigator" and then launching the navigation software (0:40) should open the CE UI if the device has that OS. I'm afraid I don't have any experience outside of using this method. Btw you can find the "MobileNavigator.exe" in the drive link in the description.

eliaschnl okay thanks but I might have messed up my gps 1200 because I pressed the power button and reset button at once and then tried update os format hdd so I need help to get it back because it will only turn on to a blank white screen with a loading bar that does nothing need help

I heard there was a windows CE 5 emulator. I have CE 6 as an emulator and I can't find the emulator. Can someone help me please? One that works btw. Not the SoftPedia one.

I can't find any CE emulators, seems microsoft has pulled them. They did that with WMDC too.

I forgot my navigators password how can i reset it

I didn't install any software (operating system) as my gps runs windows ce natively (out of the box). As I explained in my email this operating system is custom made by the manufacturer and is not installable or upgradable atleast on gps devices. If you want to get to the CE desktop you need to bypass the navigation software where the gps boots to. I need to look more into this but I can't give you an answer right now. I can only suggest things as it is hard to experiment without having the actual device. I don't know how the magellan system works but I can guess its just a matter of finding the right file to replace so that the gps boots in to the desktop.

@@eliaschnl right I understand it comes with Windows CE its just a matter of getting it to run Windows CE I am trying MioPocket but my Roadmate 1430 does not want to start the install process it is used to unlock Magellan Roadmate 1430 to get to the Window CE its just not working I followed the Readme file but I only went down to the SD card install only and did the Magellan Roadmate one on how to install to the sd card but it doesn't work

Hi, sorry for the late response. Are you using TCPMP? Also what CE version do you have? You could try and find other versions of TCPMP or other players to see if they are more stable on your device.

@@Praneel I'm using CE 5.0 so my player version isn't fully compatible with CE 6.0. You could search www.hpcfactor.com/support/update/ for a compatible ROM but be VERY sure you are installing the correct one as a wrong ROM will brick your device. On HPC you can also find different versions of the TCPMP and other players as well.

@@PraneelWhat file did you download from the link in the description and also what is the model number of your device? I was able to find TCPMP version 0.71 which is listed as being compatible with CE 6.0. There are options for diffferent architectures like StrongARM, MIPS R4xxx and SH3. I was able to download these so I could put them in the drive folder.

@@sleppy_9105 The file I used on the SD card launched the windows shell instead of the navigation software. The navigation software runs in windows but you never see the shell unless you tell the device to launch it.

@@FoxInkling Not sure what the recovery process for that would be. I beleive the windows files are loaded from internal memory. Maybe they could be placed there via usb connection. Flashing new firmware might be the only option.

@@eliaschnl ok so today i got a new GPS and this time it has Windows CE pre unlocked like it has GPS functions but it has an app called explorer and when i pressed it, it said are you sure you want to enter WINCE and that how i knew it has the windows CE kernal and it just needs a new battery but a portable charger is an option and im happy with it
