In Linux, the file system is organized as a hierarchical tree-like structure, starting from the root directory ("/") and branching out to other directories and files.
To navigate through the file system, you can use the command-line interface, which is commonly accessed through a terminal or console window.
Here are some basic commands for navigating directories in Linux:
cd (Change Directory): Use this command to move to a different directory. For example, cd /home/user/Documents will take you to the "Documents" directory under your user's home directory.
ls (List): Use this command to list the files and directories in the current directory. You can add options to show more information, such as file permissions and ownership. For example, ls -l will show a long listing format.
pwd (Print Working Directory): Use this command to display the current directory's full path.
mkdir (Make Directory): Use this command to create a new directory. For example, mkdir myfolder will create a new directory called "myfolder" in the current directory.
rmdir (Remove Directory): Use this command to delete an empty directory. For example, rmdir myfolder will delete the "myfolder" directory.
cp (Copy) and mv (Move): Use these commands to copy or move files or directories to a different location. For example, cp file.txt /home/user/Documents will copy the "file.txt" to the "Documents" directory under your user's home directory, while mv file.txt /home/user/Documents will move it there.
rm (Remove): Use this command to delete a file or directory. For example, rm file.txt will delete the "file.txt" file.
By using these commands, you can navigate and manage files and directories in Linux with ease.
