You know what really disappoints me is the lack of professionalism and courage of these officers to admit they were wrong. A real man can take responsibility for his actions right or wrong. Law Enforcement would gain so much respect if they just admitted when they did not have the authority to make someone comply with an unlawful command. Police officers can ask you anything. They can only demand what is lawful for them to do so. The police uniform and badge only get you so much respect, you have to earn the rest through your actions. When I was in the military I had to respect those who out ranked me to a certain extent. If they wanted true respect and allegiance they earned it through their actions to their subordinates.

Military bases are kind of a special case. They are federal property bu they are controlled access areas. So they can restrict people taking pictures and video while ON base. Most of the laws restricting photography or sketching of military installations date from the 40's and 50's. So most of the laws haven't changed wording, but the application of them strictly to ON base has changed in light of court decisions regarding filming in public. It's kind of an interesting area of law actually. Or maybe I'm just a nerd, who knows.

He’s a base cop, his law is to follow the military law. People are considered suspicious if they are just outside a military base and have no reason to be there. The base is cautious with people taking photos because we don’t know who you are or if someone secretly working with a terrorist groups shows photos to their organization. I’m not saying this guy is a terrorist, but I am saying the base cop has every right to ask for ID.

Wouldn't it be as simple as a supervisor telling their staff, "If you see people taking pictures, STAY AWAY FROM THEM AT ALL COSTS !! Otherwise you will look like an un-informed JACKASS on KZread !! And you may cause an un-intentional call flood to my office !!" Thank you Jeff, Carlos, EOG, just to name a few....you are all true Patriots !!

The thing is that the laws regarding the photography and sketching of military installations have had the same wording since the 40s and 50s. The court decisions regarding photography in public have changed how these laws are APPLIED however and they are now interpreted to refer to photography while ON base. The main laws dating back to 1948 and 1950: www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/795 www.archives.gov/federal-register/codification/executive-order/10104.html Because of this most bases will actually publish clarifications in their base policies and standing orders as to where photography is specifically permitted on base without specific permission. I've seen them on the American bases I've visited. www.cnic.navy.mil/regions/cnrsw/installations/naws_china_lake/about/installation_guide/visitor_information/photography_and_filming.html I think it's a really interesting legal nuance, where the law is enforced different ways depending on the overarching court decisions. But I may just be a nerd though.

Jeff, would you say he talked about 5 minutes on the phone before coming and talking to you? My guess it was the DA. I know that no lawyer would handle any kind of suit on this, not enough damage, but why not demand an apology from this Fed Cop, which would ensure that he has learned something from his foolishness. Isn't that part of the reason so many people do audits, to teach them what is the law?

It really helps that the JSO knows that your last name is Grey. That's not so much that they're being "nice guys" as much as it is a matter of them knowing exactly where the footage is going - to KZread, etc. I feel sorry for anyone else who is actually a stranger to them. Nice coverage, Jeff, as always.

"Araf Rahim, 42, of Callahan, a veteran officer, was charged with performance of a sexual act by a detention facility employee, a third-degree felony, a report said." Makes you wonder if his current employer even knows about his past charges. Or if they do know, why in the heck is the DOD hiring somebody to be Military Police with that in their background.

Shocking the amount of time and training officers seem to have on how to deliberately mislead and even outright lie to gain compliance and to skirt around the laws that protect citizens from them. For all his smiles and friendly demeanour this officer was a tyrant and absolutely knew he was in the wrong yet kept trying to push for you to surrender your rights anyway.

I had an interesting conversation with a transit driver based on your videos and what I learned. We were talking about our freedoms being taken away. I asked if I was to open carry would I be allowed on the bus. He said yes that the bus was a public place and I had the right to carry ( I don't own a gun). Then I asked am I allowed to take photos or video and he said of course, it was a public place there is no expectation of privacy. So thanks Jeff, appreciate all the videos.

While fun to watch these videos are pointless and they are going to continue to do what they do. Just not to Jeff. If you really think these videos are really changing they way these aholes act you are blind to reality. The Supreme Court has already ruled you can be illegally harassed and the cops aren't accountable. Why do you think there's never a lawsuit that arises from these?

I hope that Sheriff's Deputy '*INFORMED*' these Base Security Officers, that they can NOT detain someone outside of the Base's Property (in Public) for taking Pictures/Video....and that the actual Florida Law doesn't require a person to produce I.D. unless they are *LAWFULLY* Detained or under arrest, and only then do you have to give your Name, Date of Birth and Address. Other than those 3 things you don't have to say anything other that 'I want a Lawyer' and 'I invoke my 5th Amendment Right"
