My grandparents raised my brother and sister but they were not hispanic. My grandmother would not take me because i a half hispanic. If my grandma would have known TRUE HISTORY.... 😉 i still lovey grandma and miss her dearly.

I only had a grandfather (maternal). My grandmother passed when my mother was a child. I missed that part of my upbringing. But my grandfather was a traditional man who displayed resilence in his daily activities of farming, ranching, even cooking. He was a wonderful person.

I was raised by my grandparents. They both have passed I miss them very much I think of them every day I will SEE them again one DAY

This country could learn family values from the Navajos and genuine loyalty and grace. I wish them the best in life and prosperity in the future.

My brothers and sisters lets wake up and take ourselves back, and stop playing the victim card. We are strong minded, strong spirited and we got the love of humanity in us so lets love one another and help each other understand that only in our culture we will find true sovirenty. Only thing we can truly call ours is our heritage! Be proud love yourselves and lead yourselves.

I feel for these grandparents, I get that they're adhering to there traditions and it is a joy to be loved by our grandparents and to look after them in their old age, but this can't be fair for them, it must be a very great strain on their lives.

The thing is with the victim card.. you try to push it out of your mind.. but it's there. People pull it out. The treatment of our fellow natives.. it just puts it out.

Thank you for sharing my grandmother once said be kind to people and enliven in God and I thank my mother that I am the person I am today

My father just passed, and he was not only a father but grandfather and great grandfather! He have very much love for his children and country, he told us many story's, he was Choctaw !

My grandmother passed. She used to tell me stories of her life as well as seeing the underlying messages of nature. I’m drawn to bodies of water and the outdoors.

Grandparents are needed around the world!

I wish I could go back home.. to my nalis.. to learn.. to be with them.. when I was younger, I didn't care about my culture. I felt that we were wasting our time. But.. Covid-19 happened.. hearing my people suffer from it.. die from it.. my dear nali's get the virus.. and recover from it.. made me notice that my grandparents aren't going to be here forever.. and that I should be learning my traditional kinship..

My great grandmother took care of my mother and raised her on the Rez. I'll always be thankful for her love and devotion, because now I have a mother who loves and values me as a daughter and I'm very proud of her. ❤️

I wish I had more time with my grandparents ,they all went on ahead of me and one day I'll be with them once more. It's in loving them vise versa that I'm still able to see and hear them still to this day and there's a part of them within me that has allowed me to continue on , even though I miss them so much. To all the a Grandparents out there I love and appreciate you especially the ones helping to raise their grand babies. My Grandparents on both of my parents sides helped to raise my brother and myself. My Fathers side is Indian, Irish and Mexican. My Mother’s family were immigrants from Norway, Vikings with very little education. They ALL better themselves. I am trying to do the same amidst my grief and heartache. My new family with my husband is a HOT MESS. That’s all I am going to say so I don’t get into any more trouble with my hubs.

This video may be 9 years old, but it is so important today. I am from Virginia. My family is a mix of Indians from the Eastern Coast. They did everything they could do so "others" would not take their children 😢. Peace and love to you All 🙏❤

Vacationed in New Mexico. Felt the power on the land. Seen the pictures of the Indians being westernized in the old photos there. As themselves their pictures were majestic, perfect like the Ravenl who has perfected their craft and it emunated through the photo. Then the westernized photos. Emabarrasing ...shameful...depression came to me through the photos. I'm still shook by the realization and can get physically I'll while recalling their faces. The same oppression is still being dealt to the natives and Mexicans in the area today and made me look at the wealthy people in the area in a sceptical manner. Turning away from and then back to traditional ways maybe the only medicine. Band together. Buy land.Turn back to traditional ways home school and educated your youth in western technology and pray to give them power to merge the old and new to lead the people into the 4th world

Watching this i see my story and boys next boys next door across this country. I have the ability to love to be Merciful and to give without thought. My grandma is my mom is the base of everything good and i know as long as I live her massage and love that she given will not die. I'm her lil boy, I miss her so much.

Mrs. Gould is right on alcohol.... That doesn't mean that alcohol is bad. It's the issue of fixing our mindsets so we have a healthy relationship with it. I know that, in my darkest times, alcohol was the one thing that numbed the pain of the past. A lot of us (Navajo males) are raised to just shut everything out/box it all up and drive on. In my opinion, that's why we're so vulnerable to it. At no point, did anyone ever tell us "Hey, it's ok. You can talk to me. What's on your mind?" Too many of us have decades worth of repressed memories/feelings. Alcohol breaks those walls down for us and lets us actually FEEL. Whether it's pain/sorrow/happiness/etc. I knew, in my private moments drinking alone, I'd actually feel emotions the way I thought "normal" people felt them in. Sober, I couldn't understand why people were "so goddamn sensitive/childish" until I was drinking. Alcoholism is just another prison disguised as a paradise. I hope to one day regain the healthy relationship with alcohol I once had because, honestly, I do enjoy and miss those moments where I could enjoy a delicious stout/ipa/whatever and not feel like I "NEED" more.

My grandma was the best teacher and very caring, but also strong in her life teaching. She would get after us and we never disrespected her and she would tell us. DO NOT TALK ENGLISH IN MY HOME. BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T WANT US TO LOSE OUR LANGUAGE

Maybe my family once there were two sisters from Colorado who met and married two brothers from New Mexico and though their birth certificates say white when I see these faces I can see my own mother and auntie and their dad my grandpa.

The nations strength is not all about the past or lessons to shove into life grow whole as a people strive to chart. better course than what upon us today . I might be white but I’ve more Indian inside me than most Indians I’ve met with. Learn a big lesson be proud of whom you are and where you come from but don’t screw up being something that’s not of truth or essential to individual self pride shown outwardly thru gaining presence today and the future. Be better than others but hold to it as shared by doing it not talking it

Why can't interpreters ever interpret correctly. The Navajo language is VERY POWERFUL please please understand the language before trying to interpret into English. The two ladies speaking navajo made me cry but sadden by the interpretation.

After listening to the individuals in this broadcast it appears as if the social structure has been truely impacted by substance abuse , more completely by the inability to manage themselves as a culture.Ill not say substances are a good thing it is an important issue to find a true balance at each lesson we find in life. Nothing’s worse that denial if that’s where it is in another’s heart. I’ve seen happy people living out thier lives being into this generations living it as a party, it separated them from thier family by its alienating of one another and thier choices. Nobody is better than anyone else just complicated enough to be different in thier own ways. Celebrate the ways of another and choose respect it is much more of an ideal to be of finding in life a means to live as is best . This isn’t a right of others to deny thier pleasures and take away the way to which they believe inside , education to manage in lessons being shared does give critical review insights on where somebody should and shouldn’t dwell internally. I had a friend who was an awesome person so talented and capable of so much kill himself because he fought a battle being something he wasn’t. My friend lived to smoke pot and it was inside him culturally between his friends and it created his joy. The issue didn’t sit well with his father who expected his actions to clone his own style. This battle rages on for many too. His father had a lot of bussiness savy he’d built his empire up in owning and operating a huge number of resteraunts , his son saw this as success and it was used to persuade him to end his smoking pot. The bait was if he quit smoking pot his dad was willing to buy him his entry into the bussiness and that was everything in being somebody of value, and if he didn’t commit to ending his pot smoking it wasn’t gonna be offered. Mike quit the very thing which had brought him self esteem happiness and culture and the biggest thing he’d grown up understanding was his way he knew. For the measure of one year he was doing very well and had really been thriving in every aspect of his future, nobody could say he wasn’t a natural at this he did very very well in fact. He’d developed a earning for female companionship and he was in life the ladies choicest single guy to try to catch. This wasn’t as satisfying as you might think these gals couldn’t be there for him like he had hoped and it wasn’t something he could address . Deeply inside he yearned for his own understanding to be respected by others and to demonstrate his values as an example. His life meant confusion and disorder being something he wasn’t living a lie denied him head room. This took away his internal joy who could of thought his smoking pot could have this influence upon him inside mentally. It was his word he’d given that kept him out of the scene and afterwards nothing felt right. It’s a lesson to not repeat it should be explained nothing in this life is so essential that you rely upon it to find happiness it’s not addiction it’s insanity. Money is also another abused drug if you understand how it is to another, his inability to be whom he felt he was personally cause him to drive into a toll booth at excess of 120 mph trying to end his life.This you might say was due to his smoking pot I would say yeah to some degree but not totally he’d quit on whom he felt he was and it altered his idea of what was of interest so much it kept him fixated by it. He never had a chance it denied his reality as he knew it his self worth and that which held value upon inside cause a deep rift to grow. We should learn how to exist in life with respect for another’s beliefs tolerate in life others values use truth to find changes and share experiences to define whom we believe we wish to be . Mike was special the best of souls it’s a subject I have difficulty expressing be free and be real give respect do nothing to take away from others thier freedom and keep it with respect for yourself and others aswell.

Do many Navajos use their language still?

This is a wonderful documentary your culture and memories are inside the elders! The white people destroyed the family. White people were never taught to reset it. It's so beautiful!

It refers back to when the Spaniards used to explore and wander aimlessly. Nocki is my clan - my mom is Mexican and biliga'ana (white) on my dad's side shi' chei. I grew up my entire life on Dine land since I was 6 months old. My dad's taught high school in Tuba City for 45 years. I miss these wonderful, precious wholehearted people. God Bless the Dine Nation and may He protect and guide them.

I'm very proud to be native American Indian Alabama poarch band creek Indian and Georgia Cherokee and Choctaw both Mom and dad are native American Indian INSIDE and out both my grandmother's dad's mom and mom's mom looked like native American Indian women although we don't have our paperwork to prove it but I look in the mirror and see native American Indian people tell me older I get my native American Indian comes out the European in me is very little compared to my native looks DNA test results proved I am 44% native Indian my wife is Cherokee and Choctaw
