Trev's always loved his Naturehike Cloud Up 2, but has also always wanted to have a look at the Cloud Peak 2, too... Well, now he can as he finally took the plunge and purchased this robust, geodesic ultralight backpacking tent. Some consider this the best budget backpacking tent that you can get, its certainly considered one of the most durable for the price, but is it worth its additional weight when compared against such tents as the Lanshan and the Cloud Up 2. Here Trev has a closer look at this tent, and runs through how to go about setting up the Cloud Peak 2 from Naturehike.

great review Trev. I have tested it in dartmoor in the winds . when you get in and out of the tent open it from the top and slowly bring the door down because of fly door touching the inner and get in the opposite side to the sleep system in casewater drips onto the sleep system. I made a mistake of dragging the tent to reposition the tent instead of lift it. so I damaged the footprint. which I fixed with gorilla tape and lots of seam seal. another tip. keep the footprint attached for when it rains. plus match the foot end to the head end as the head end is slightly wider. I used longer and thicker Y shaped pegs for the soft ground . which are light anyway. Not sure about how.ot is goingto be in winter. oh another one. you can open from top down and fold the top in and wipe with a towel to prevent drips for ventilation when cooking. I am glad you got this tent finally . Glamorgan. weighs less than my Banshee 300. . not sure about the rain getting know the top when setting up. maybe attach the hood temporarily to prevent any water getting in..maybe have a small carabiner to attach it at first before it flies in the distance like a kite. Just food for thought. Trev. I hope this comment isn't condensending. Just wanted to share what I found out in the rain and wind. Take care dude.

Top tip - do the first clip from the bottom of every pole. Once that's done, there's enough tension to keep them upright while you do the rest. Saves trying to keep them up one handed. Also helps to minimise the profile until you're ready if putting up in a hoolie 👍

A very useful video and a useful looking tent. Thank you. Just one observation: I completely agree with you tying the extra guy ropes on now, rather than on a hillside in wind and rain, but I would have gathered each one up and loosely tied it into a hank before putting the tent away. That way they don't get all over the place when you go to put the tent up next, but they are still attached and ready to be deployed if needed.

Hi great tent had no problems with mine. When putting the tent up alone do the bottom clips to the poles first as they will hold the poles up for you and then circle round the tent clipping up one level at a time. Wrap your guide ropes once round each of the poles when guying out for extra stability. I don't think there is much need for the ground sheet so you can save 200g or so there and also leave a bit more room in the tent bag for easy pack up.

Great tent, all poles same size. The top lid which some say they nearly lost just tie with some para cord to tent outer. No messing then figuring out the orientation when raining. Only negative is footprint should just peg down not the hooks, when windy would be a phaf. Slightly heavy but the size trade off is worth it.

Great review Trev. Really nice tent. As I've mentioned in the past, I use the Banshee and the bag is one of the main reasons I got that tent. I'm wondering if Vango have a copyright on that design because I'm not sure why other companies haven't done the same. Great to see that you can put it up inner and outer together. Makes it so much easier in bad weather to throw it up. I'm looking forward to seeing you using it. I have seen Paul Messner using the Clowd Peak on his channel in some stunning pitches. Trev, I own a Cloudpeak 2. It's a great little tent for the money. I went out in it in early November and found it was quite breezy. I wouldn't say it's a 4 season tent, but it's one of my go to tents for April through to October. The first time I ever pitched it, it was in the dark, peeing down with rain and blowing a hooley. We nearly lost the lid, thankfully my mate managed to somehow grab it as it flew off!! I wouldn't bother trying to roll it up when putting it away, just drop the guy lines into the centre, fold it into itself then stuff it in the bag. It will all fit in easily. One more thing when pitching it/taking it down in strong winds attach/detach the hooks in a circular motion, going around the tent as you go that way it minimises the impact of the wind on the tent. Enjoy using it, looking forward to your video putting it through its paces.

Thanks for the tip! I must admit, I took it out last night and it was a bit drafty - I still dont actually own a 4 season tent so its this and the cloud up 2 plus some thick thermals for me lol. I did exactly that with regards to collapsing the poles this morning, and it worked a treat - was blooming windy too! Vid to follow next week!

@UCTXZwXDq38W6J-4OMMNIKUg I recently bought the 4 season Lanshan 2 from Aliexpress, not been out in it yet though so I'm yet to find out if it's a true 4 season tent. I also own the Hilleberg Allak 2 which looks very similar to the Cloudpeak 2, but at around 3.5KG it's a bit on the heavy side for long distance, solo use. But for the added warmth, strength and sense of security you get when using it I can't fault it. it's a bloody expensive tent which I paid it off over 12 months but in my opinion it's worth every penny, it's my pride and joy and I love it.

Try camping at - 5 with a howling wind at Foggintor Trev. The wind comes straight through the bottom and over your head. It's not the best at keeping the wind off your face bbbrrrrr but it's deffo not like having snow skirts where you get wicked condensation. I lived mines though and in the winds it was still very steady and sturdy. In fog it dripped water droplets from that top cover straight onto my sleeping bag, not good. I stupidly burn mines on the door cooking and then ripped a guy line out with my clumsy feet so I sold it. I will get another one but for now it's a waiting game. The tent could do with thicker poles and extra guid line if your going to use it in real high winds but for the money and weight and waterproofing it's absolutely brilliant. How weatherproof are the naturehike tents? Have you ever had leakage ? I’d expect the seams neede sealing?? Great video. Cheers.

Hi Alistair! How are you doing? I've never had one leak yet - you could always seam seal them to be in the safe side, but must admit, I havent yet!

@@SummitOrNothing Can you recommend a good 4 season solo tent at a reasonable price? I was looking at the msr elixer but its only a 3 season unless you think it would do for british winter weather. Thanks
