Truly there's no place quite like Nature's Valley! Lush subtropical forest, an ocean teeming with life, an endless coast of jagged rocks, perfect beaches and inviting river-mouths, a mirrorlike lagoon, and an abundance of pristine rivers, this piece of paradise on the Garden Route in South Africa's Western Cape feels like a world's worth of natural beauty in only a few kilometres of coastline. At the end of the 2020 academic year, myself, Simon, Lace, Jono, Milan, Dan and Lucy spent a week exploring this special place! As always, I did my best to capture some part of the experience.

This was filmed before the second wave of infections began in South Africa. Myself, Simon, Lace and Milan had been living together in one household, and Dan, Jono and Lucy in another, and we were able to avoid almost all interaction with other people during our stay there, all of which helped mitigate risks. Travel, time outdoors and time spent with friends are all healthy and valuable, but at times like these it's very important to do so responsibly, so stay safe and protect those around you!
Places like Nature's Valley remind me why the natural world is so worth fighting to protect. The plants and animals which call this place home have been there far longer than we have, and flourish when tourism is respectful and responsible. As one who grew up going to NV to our holiday cottage, I am really happy to see you young people still doing what we did as kids. I can safely say you did almost everything you could in your weeks stay, I presume with a local who knows the place well, looked like you stayed on the syndicate lagoon front . I have family who own the second property (Van Der Riet/Kronè) my dads cousins. Used to be an old wood cottage but fairly recently rebuilt bigger. Shot for the amaizing memories

That's the exact house we stayed in :) the Krones are very old friends, and Simon was actually the one who organised the trip. It is indeed such a special place! Each time I come back to it I find new things to fall in love with

His cousin is Jennifer(not sure of the spelling) Krone ,sister to Robin VanderRiet (who died some while back) , their fatfer is Bobby(Ernest)Vander Riet, the original owner

Hi Thameenah, sorry for missing this! If you're still looking, I'm afraid I've only ever stayed at a house owned by my friend's family in the area, and so I'm really not sure. Best thing would probably be a google search or Airbnb - I think there's a backpackers nearby which will probably be quite cheap
Great footage! Are drones allowed in Nature's Valley? I always thought that you were not allowed to fly them there...

Glad you enjoyed it! I'm not certain, although I have seen drone footage from the valley being shared by various tourism bodies, and the locals I chatted with had no problem with it. As always, I think it's important to fly efficiently and responsibly, stay well clear of any people, wildlife or private property etc. I'm lucky enough to have a drone with noise reducing propellers, and filming in high resolution means any shots with animals in are magnified several times over (i.e. the drone is in actual fact quite far away). I think drones have gotten a bit of a bad wrap, being new and occasionally being flown irresponsibly by tourists, but in truth they're only harmful when used in the wrong way. I felt very lucky to be able to capture and share these scenes uniquely, and hopefully show why nature is so worth appreciating and protecting.

Drones are not allowed in Most of the Natures Valley area. Not in the residential area even if some are okay with it and definitely not on SANParks unless you get a permit.

@@brittanyarendse2066 That's indeed the case, getting too close to strangers' houses or national parks whiout permission is definitely worth avoiding
