"At the end of the day, architecture is not an object. It's a usable, living organism," says designer Beatrice Girelli, "it was important for me to find a place where I could design with experience in mind," and in particular the feeling of being immersed into the local environment, leaning into the natural beauty of the surrounding island of Maui. "I knew I had to bring as much of the quiet power of the world outside into the spaces."
The renovation was inspired by the native flora and natural landscape of Maui, even bringing that inspiration into the porte cochere entrance to the property, which is lined along both sides with native Kupukupu and Palapalai ferns to blur the lines of the guest experience from outside to inside the property.
Girelli muses "Mother Nature is the ultimate designer."
