Steven, I'm Cambodian and the oud smells different from different part of Cambodia. The way we use oud isn't the same with how middle eastern and other area uses it. Back in the old times it was used for medicinal, "witch craft" and anointment of the dead before cremation etc. Us Buddhist believed that when Buddha was cremated, he was cremated with the usage of Sandalwood and pure oud wood, so if you get a chance to go to certain temple, you may find oud wood being used as incense and anointment of statues. It was only when it popped up in the northern / silk road area that was when oud was used for perfumery / traded. That's why middle eastern love and will seek out our oud more than oud from other area of Asian because of the quality and lack of intense animalic fecal scent.

It's remarkable how varied the smell of oud is. I have a few bottles from Ensar Oud and it is astonishing how completely different they all smell from one another, despite technically only being one ingredient. They can be sweet, floral, fruity, smoky, nutty, peppery, animalistic etc. And the differences aren't subtle or minor. Genuine quality oud isn't cheap, but it is a very unique olfactive experience completely unlike traditional perfumery.

I started with thai oud, so when I have the western ouds it is like the baby fragrance to the parent. I really like oud but not office wear. I think it is funny that oud is a southeast Asian fragrance and origin, and it is as hot as hot gets. I get more attars from India too.

I have several bottles and little samples of oud oil. I actually bought a bunch from Ensar oud. I bought a full bottle of their plantation oud oil. It's actually really good for the price. Way more affordable. Zaza Zen I think it was called.

The main note i have got from most of combodi aged oud oils is that tamarind tangy light note with fresh cut and chopped woody smell but very dark, thick and airy ....

Oud oil is not for everyone you need to give some time to perform oud oil on your skin and cloths after apply on it , i think one drop of pure Cambodian oud oil can last a week on your cloths and it also depends on the certain temprature where u living at ..... Oud oil always performs better in cold climates and cold envoirnments inside your home if your home equipped with aircondition system

I know someone who said they don't like ANY oud. I was thinking how can you hate all oud? There's so many different kinds and they all smell different. Like Malaysian oud is so good! There's no barnyard or fecalness to it at all!

I agree some oud smells so much better than others, I realized Cambodian oud although it is rare is much more seductive. Also, it depends on the ability of the perfumer to tame the oud note.
