***PLEASE NOTE*** Yes! Any salt will work. Go with the cheapest you have. The only reason I am using sea salt in mine is because it is the cheapest salt I have. Years ago I purchased two 50 lb bags for only $8 per bag. That is 0.16 per pound. I save my expensive, mineral rich salts for anything food related. I typically use 1-2 Tablespoons per load

Hi Heidi, Thank you so much for this. I am an old lady, just now getting into these kinds of cleaning supplies. My Mama would love this. She was familiar with old ways of cleaning, since she lived through the Great Depression. Please tell me what kind, and how much, of your home made vinegar that you prefer, for a laundry rinse agent. I am also learning to make vinegar. Also, please give me the amounts of this laundry powder you are using for dish washing, by hand, and carpet cleaning. When you discover how much works well in the dish washer, that would be helpful too. When you add it to your scouring powder, how much are you adding? Our God IS good All the time. New washingmachines use less water than the old ones. That gives problems with getting the soap out of the clothes. Not only your soap. I love the recept, thanks a lot! 🤗

Baking soda, salt & vinegar can be bought with SNAPS= food stamps. Where regular soaps can not be purchased with SNAPS.

I have a soap allergy, so I have to be very carefully of what I use or I will be broke out, started when I was about 27.

½ c = 1 part 2 parts sea salt (1 cup) 3 parts baking soda (1 ½ cup) 3 parts washing soda (1 ½ cup) Optional: essential oil

I started off using this as a booster because I was afraid it wouldn’t get my kids clothes all the way clean. Boy was I wrong. I’m a mother of 6 and I use 2-3T for each load, in the dishwasher I use 1T, and I also use it for stains in the floor and on the counters. It works so wonderfully and is super easy to make. Thank you thank you thank you. I think I may make a huge batch of this and just refill my quart jar.

I had a heap of animal towels to wash. They were seriously dirty! I split them into two full loads, one with commercial laundry powder and one with yours. Your powder won hands down Heidi. There was so much less staining. I have to admit I was surprised. Thank you for this wonderful recipe.

great video. here's a summary. please watch the full video for details. uses: laundry detergent, carpet cleaner, scouring powder, handwash dishes (1 part = 0.5 cup) for 1 quart/4 cups of recipe: * 2 parts salt (cheapest available) * 3 parts baking soda * 3 parts washing soda * 1 tsp essential oil (optional) use 1-3 tbsp per load of laundry * add (homemade) vinegar to the rinse cycle (optional) turn baking soda into washing soda by baking it on a cookie sheet at 400 degrees for 1 hour (research to verify)

This is the most amazing cleaner! It cleans everything & takes stains out of my clothes that Tide Pods wouldn’t touch! No more Tide Pods for me! Heidi, I've been using this for a month now, and this is the best detergent I've ever used! I've used Tide, Whisk, All, Persil, etc. My son is Autistic and has sensitive skin and Keratosis Pilaris (chicken skin). I was using All Free & Clear for 13 years before I tried this. This is hands down the best I've ever used and cost me almost nothing. Furthermore, I make washing soda from baking soda so it's even cheaper! I couldn't thank you enough!

@Teresa V spread a layer of baking soda on a baking sheet. Bake for 1 hour at 400°, STIRRING every 15 minutes. But it is no longer edible after that so make sure you label it for safety.

A few years ago, I had a dog named Candace that was very elderly. (She died at 17). She was really sweet but got weaker. She couldn't tolerate standing long enough for a bath so I mixed a home-made dry shampoo. I put cornstarch and a few drops of orange oil in a spice container, shook it and let it set for a few days. I brushed her real good and then sprinkled it on her coat, working it in with my hands. It really made such a difference in taking away that doggy smell and made it easier for the family to love on her. RIP, Candace. 🐶🐾👅

Hi Heidi, been making my laundry soap for several years. I mix up a Big 5 gallon bucket that will last us for all ver a year. Seems like there’s always something to wash 🥴. Got a new washer 3 (?) yrs ago & the darn thing tells me when it needs to be cleaned 😳. I only use hot water for bedding & towels. I’ll make up some of yours tho as it’s about time to wash down the walls again. Desert sand & major wind at times leaves a fine layer of dust everywhere 😤😤 I’m 73 & thought people were crazy yrs ago when they said soon we would only need a plastic card to shop🤪🤪. Now machines tell us what to do 😵‍💫😵‍💫. No Alexa here tho😜😜 👵🏻👩‍🌾❣️

Since watching this video I have made a gallon jar of this soap. I had planned on putting some in a shaker jar for scouring powder and a jar for washing dishes by hand and with the dishwasher. I washed clothes and they are cleaner as is my washing machine. 2- I used it in the dishwasher ( 1 t ) and my dishes came out very clean and so did the inside of my dishwasher. Well, mostly .... because my water turns a lot of things orange. But a lot of that orange came out. I only use the dishwasher once or twice a week If that. But I had a full load and went ahead to try this. 3-Hand washing the dishes was really nice as well. 4-Scoured my sink and that was pretty when it was done ! Next test is the bath tub that is supposed to be white but has a lot of orange. I am feeling pretty confident though it will be white in no time at all. So This viewer absolutely LOVES this laundry soap powder and the versatility of it. Thanks so much Heidi ! ******** correction I used a scant Tablespoon ( not a teaspoon ) in my dishwasher because of the orange staining from our city water. A teaspoon would probably work so just play with it at your house and see what works for you.

I have been using homemade laundry soap from soap flakes. Over the years I noticed that my kitchen towels don’t absorb water anymore. Very annoying! 😡 I’ve been searching online and found out it was just BECAUSE of the soap flakes! One woman suggested to add some dish detergent to my liquid mixture. So I tried that for the first time and noticed that my kitchen towels were a bit softer and took up water a bit better. Since I have to be very frugal because of my very tight budget and the friggin insane price rises, I am now so happy to have found this! Baking soda is (still) cheap here in Belgium and now I can make recipe this for even less money!! A few laundries from now, I’ll come back and share the result of this with my towels. That was absolutely driving me nuts: towels that don’t dry...🙄🙄🙄 Since I’m alone, I don’t have a load of laundry every week, so this might take a while! I am really curious about the results! Will do a wash tomorrow asap! THANKS!

I heeded Homemaking on the Homestead's advice against using soap in the laundry, but I started feeling a little discouraged because I'd already bought the products and wanted to DIY to avoid the commercial detergents. You just revived my hope lol I'm off to make the powder now. Thank you!!!

I might try predissolving some borax in hot water and keeping a jar of that in the cupboard for those extra jobs. Thank you for your knowledge!

Running your washer full with hot water at least once a month will clean your hoses and pipes. (Learned that from a plumber).

Good info! I only use cold water for clothes. Never knew Borax needs warm or hot to dissolve. I MUST start making my own vinegar soon. Store-bought vinegar is SO expensive now, even the store brands! Thank you Heidi❤️

You have a lovely day, too. I wash my scrubs in hot water and dry on the hot cycle for infection control. And throw the underwear in there too. But everything else in cold water.

Hi Heidi, i have tried this laundry. Wow works very well. I had a coffee stain and i just put some on the arear and let it sit, it did wonders. I noticed my woollen sweaters i dont have to use a lint roll any more. Taking a step to try something and having faith you do see things happen. Bless you guys

@@wasnevernurseratched439 I never use the soap dispenser, I sprinkle it over the laundry in the washer before starting. I have never had clumps in my wash nor had anyone else say they have had this issue. I have no idea if it would be the iodized salt but that should not make a difference

Awesome vid. Can’t wait to try it. Just ordered washing soda and restocked on baking soda and salt. Did the math out of curiosity, looks like this method will cost about 5 cents / load based on the prices I got my supplies at. Did the math on the last bottle of natural-ish detergent I bought-20 cents / load. Worth a few minutes of measuring and shaking for the cost alone, but I love that it’s better for health and possibly the washer too. Maybe I'll try. I made homemade powder a few years ago (from One Good Thing by Jillie) two years in a row, and I was happy with it for the most part, but our whites were dingy over time and the hubby asked me to go back to store bought.

I just made 2 jars of this yesterday. One with orange essential oil and one without. I had all of the ingredients but I just got 8 Kerr Mason jars from someone on my neighborhood Freecycle group. The one with the orange oil smells amazingly amazing. I'll use that for regular cleaning and the one without the orange oil for laundry. I use Charlie's Soap which is a detergent but ill use this one for fun and backup. Thank you for the recipe for this. I wouldn't have thought about putting orange essential oil in it. I have the Now Brand.

I made my first batch of this for laundry. I was forced to finally bite the bullet and get a new washer & dryer. 😉 after 26 years 😊 I used up my old batch of soap and started with this today. I was struggling with fading before. I've learned that this detergent will help with that. I've always been a warm/hot water washer, but after reading the comments here I'm thinking I should give cold water washes a try. There are always new things to learn. Good evening, Heidi. I’ve been rewatching this video. What I didn’t like about the liquid laundry soap receipes is that they trail and I must be very sloppy because it was always a mess - and a pain to make up. I made it up immediately and have used it exclusively since. For use in my dishwasher, I do add citric acid to the mix. And if I am doing a load of heavily soiled whites, I do add sodium percarbonate and allow it to sit overnight in the washer. Apparently the sodium percarbonate is active for 6 hours. It’s darn good on our laundry and absolutely wonderful for the dishwasher. Where I am, I can purchase each item in 50 lb bags very reasonably. One tablespoon, huh? Been wasting that, it seems. Good, I can cut back. I’ve been using 1 ounce. I used to love Method dish washer tabs before they changed to the plastic coated variety that didn’t dissolve but did cause a build-up in the tubes resulting in the drain pumps needing 5 replacements before I discovered the real problem. At least I could replace the pumps myself without an expensive service call. Probably threw away 5 perfectly good drain pumps!

Yay! For such a great cleaner! I made a batch Today with grapefruit essential oil and it smells amazing. So far, I have used it to hand wash dishes, ran 1 TBS through the dishwasher, used it to clean our bathrooms, and ran 3 loads of laundry. The dishes, sinks, and our shower sparkled and were squeeky clean. Our towels were fluffier and more absorbant. The microfiber towels were like new again. Our white clothes were not quite as soft using vinegar instead of fabric softener, but the fabrics seemed much fluffier just like the towels were . They were soft, but in a different way. I shared the recipe and your video with family and friends. My mother in law can not get washing soda in New Zealand, but by your suggestion, we learned how to make it with baking soda. 😊 Thanks again for sharing your recipe and knowledge!

Yes you are right the older appliances are built better.

This is the same recipe I used for my cloth diapers flats. Never had a problem with stink! Our water is so hard here though it doesn't seem to work as well with clothes

Glad you are happy with it, I made a jar for each bathroom, the laundry room, and the kitchen because I love how well it works for everything I need it for. Easier and less messy than the laundry soap I made for years AND works better not just for laundry but for cleaning stains and scrubbing sinks, tubs, and toilets

Just ran out of the very last bit of my detergent yesterday and I've had all this on hand for a while now, so guess what I'll be making today!? I'm so excited to try it!

I am allergic to most all store bought detergents to the point I’ve ended up in the ER on IV’s due to the hives all over my body and inability to breathe! I have been using washing soda, baking soda, borax and the zote flakes(after deciding I didn't want to grate the soap bars)...sometimes I would add the Downy Unstoppable scent boosters. I'm excited to try this new recipe! I started using vinegar in the rinse cycle as I found out it helps to soften the clothes. I have copd and can't take the perfumes now, so vinegar is the way to go for me. And, no, your clothes do not smell like vinegar, they smell clean. I'm so glad I found this before making a new batch...the last one I made lasted for TWO years! Thanks so so much!

@@rlynnmiller5485 I use the same recipe for dishwasher as well. A tablespoon for a big load is enough. Anything more will leave white residue on the dishes. I also add vinegar for rinse aid.

I had not heard of using salt in laundry soaps. I've been using the soap, borax, washing soda for years. We have soft water, so it works well, but sometimes I think the bath towels are not like they should be. So this week I tried your recipe, did several loads, so far so good, and this morning I used it to do the weekly kitchen deep cleaining. Worked very well, the sink was just sparkling!

salt is actually only one molecule off of bleach.

I tried a FelsNapta recipe a few years ago. My asthma couldn't take the smell so I've been using an expensive Norwex product. I'm going to make up your recipe. The more natural the better, to me. Thanks, Heidi, and God bless!
