It would be good to see how you sneak the DE into their diet. I saw on AnAmericanHomestead KZread show a mention of soaking the grain pellets in apple cider vinegar and then covering them with DE - as a way to sneak the DE into the animal's diet. How would you recommend doing it for sheep, goats and chickens?

Hey Brad, love the video! I'm a new goat owner and I've had my two goats for 2 weeks and have been racking my brain on what to do about deworming. They are healthy and fine for now, but I KNOW I need to do something for them soon. After asking around, I heard that DE was great to use but no one knew the dosage. Once I looked to the web, I was distraught that I couldn't find the answer I needed. Plus all the common sites I found stated that DE didn't work and even not recommended for internal use!! I'm sure you understand my frustration from when I had already bought a 10 lb bag! Your video is reassuring to me that I'm on the right track and to keep trucking. My question to you..... what does 2% in grain mean? We give our milking goat 2 cups (2 red solo cups) of grain in the morning and the evening. Would I give 2% of DE to each feeding? My husband and I are still very confused what the ratio would be of "2%." A tablespoon? :( Thanks!

Amy Robbins Hey Amy, Christa here. Brad thought that I should respond to this question as I am the one who takes care of the goats. Congrats by the way on being a new goat owner! You will love it! I give our goats 1-2 TBSP of DE in the morning and then Probios in the evening. (It helps with a healthy gut). I also have been giving them one capful of Basic H soap from Shaklee in their 5 gallon bucket of water. These are the things that Joel Salatin from Polyface does to deworm his animals. I found the recommended dosage of DE on www.wolfcreekranch.net/diatomaceous_earth. They have a lot of great info on DE for all animals. I hope this helps. Blessings!

Break Away here, let's say you need a quick fix on a parasite issue. Not only for your animals, but you yourself notice parasites. You want them gone, and you want them gone now... Simply eat ONE CIGARETTE or feed your animal a cigarette. It doesn't have to be a name brand or have chemicals in it, just simply tobacco will work. The nicotine in the tobacco will kill off any parasites you have and you'll be rid of them with 24 hours. In Extreme cases, you may have to repeat this one more time to do the trick.

has anyone ever had their animals checked for worms before and after feeding the diatomaceous earth? I just wonder if these people know for sure the worms are gone. And just because an animal does not appear 'wormy' does not mean that it does not have worms. By the time an animal looks wormy, there is quite an infestation going on. I am just a little skeptical, I guess.

You took a specimen of a particular goat to the vet to get tested for worms? Before and after treatment of that goat? I have two horses that live together. And just because one has worms, does not mean the other one does. Or if one does not have worms, does not mean the other one does not. I have to experiment with it.
